It was written while listening to Elis Regina and dedicated to her, other than that I'm not sure what the link is, the lyrics are very Bjork and hard to connect to anyone else. It's interesting what fires off the creative process sometimes.
@@hag_13 yo, calm the f down. björk herself talked about brazilian music and how elis regina inspired her to make isobela. you can clealy hear the olodum influence in the rhythm of the song, too. no need for micro-aggresions here.
This lady's body of work will be admired by art historians far, far into the future. She is a creature of impeccable style and talent, never ceasing to astound and delight. I'm not an academic, or an artist; simply a 64 years old Australian man with a high school education who has had a love of music his entire life; and I believe Bjork to be a unique phenomenon.
You are so very right !! Her music is absolutely timeless!! It sounds great at anytime u listen to it , 20 years from now or even 100 it will still sound so amazing. She truly transcends all those boundaries , she doesn't belong in any specific period i think she represents them all
What I absolutely adore about Bjork is that her visuals are so diverse and she's so versatile in her concepts, her music videos can go from trippy and unsettling experience to technological revolutions to arguably the most mesmerizing thing you've laid your eyes upon, without relying on shock factor or being way over the top, each element of her videos have their meaning to make such surrealism and eloquent eye candy that fill her repertoire
Did you know her recently...? Your comment iš funny, your icon photo iš too...😮 and I talk about zombie system which her deal with, bother Parts are mixer, cautionist, and fantaisista. I hate such foolish troublemaker

Best song she's ever done on her best album. I still have fond memories of lying back in a rowboat in the middle of a lake at night to look up at the stars while listening to this song when it came out.
@@TheMikenanners For some post its the best for other is homogenic and for others is vespertine and tofay for me is medulla dnt know wich album its gonna like me tomorrow
Welcome my friend. Her records are timeless. And her videos are so far unique and brilliant I've been a fan of hers 30 years discovered her when I was 15 and never looked back
I find that with all of her work. For some unknown reason it transport me to a world of delight and I have absolutely no idea how. I just let it happen. peace, from Australia.
Back when I was born in the mid 70's my parents hesitated between Isabelle and Isobel(le) as a name for me. "There's no song about an Isobel(le) and plenty for an Isabelle" was my dad's argument and that's how I got an A in my name. I always felt a strong connection to this Bjork song. Has it existed back in the days, I'm pretty sure my name would be Isobelle.
@@bloodyhell6641 Kwan may be lying: I never have exchanged half a word but half with her but I have listened to all her songs and many of her interviews: I think it may be true. At least I believe in her empathy with the uncommon public.
Highly original. What I always apprecate about Bjork, she creates a detailed, fully fleshed out, artistic world. She never failes to immerse me into the full experience she somehow manages to create. She is much more than a singer, a composer or even a typical artist. She creates new worlds from her head, into our head.
that'd be wonderful. there used to be so many dvds for collections of music videos. suppose it became less necessary after youtube came about but it'd be so cool to have these without streaming compression. youtube even having 90s videos remastered in HD is really amazing now though, love that it's finally become more of a trend
This is the most magical song ever... I remember blasting this on repeat while suntanning & the birds going absolutely nuts, bursting into song at the end, each time. It was thrilling! 🌞💙🎶😌🎶🦜💙 This song is one of my happy places. Thank you, Björk! 😘
I heard this song for the first time at 9 in 2002 when I first moved with my family home to Finland from Canada. MTV was wonderful then for having in focus hours on artists and I became enamoured with Björk and many other artists at the time. Björk will though forever hold a special place for me of the time for combining a magic of Nordic mysticism in her music while being completely cutting edge to this day. Can't help but tear up a bit a little every time I hear this
While 'Isobel' isn't my favorite from 'Post' (this would be 'Possibly maybe') this video certainly is. I think it's not just one her best but one of the best by any artist. With his faux old look and deceptively low-tech approach to surrealism Gondry created one of the most stunning cinematography I've ever seen. Look at 4:09 for example: a waterfall that serves simultanously as a bridal veil (because Isobel is 'married to herself').
Arguably, this Era is her best body of work. I have a DVD collection of videos from this time period. It covers her 1st 3 albums. It's beautiful and a great date view/listen.
i'm a millenial who loved music since i was little but wanted something unique as i grew up. discovered björk in 2021 as i was digging for more alt music (bc mainstream was getting more and more bland) and listened to homogenic first and i was just so confused and blown away. the album was released in 1997 so it was 6 years older than me but it sounds sooo modern. listened more of her older works and i was left speechless. someone like her has used electronic sounds in a very innovative way since the 90's and those sounds are reflected in the pop songs i used to listen to as a child. now i'm listening to even more of her works and this is my fave so far.
This phrase gets used way too much, but björk was truly, completely, and absolutely 100% _ahead of her time_ in a very big way. Her music, her style, her fashion, acting, everything. björk basically was doing everything Lady Gaga does now, 25 years ago (that's not a dig on Gaga btw, who is herself a multi-talented artist).
@@daedalus_20v yes. gaga is one of those modern artists that made me appreciate björk's style (along with fka twigs). and i don't care if that phrase is overused because of the truth it holds. now avant-garde and weirdness are embraced by the public with the rise of billie eilish and some other alt girls and i'm more than glad to have found their mother which is björk.
Ill give some of my personal reccomendations to further your seaech for music with maybe a little more substance. I would say: portishead, the knife, cocteau twins, sharon van etten, tool, kate bush, beach house, fever ray, bill callehan, radiohead. These are some good artists to start to get away from the mainstream.
One of my favorite Björk songs, maybe even my favorite. It's like Human Behaviour part 2. I love the tribal sounding drums and the strings are so beautiful and gives me goosebumps! I also love the whistling at the end, I kind of imagine it's a bird in the forest! This song is so catchy, it just gets stuck in your head. I can also relate to this song, I too want to live in the forest far away from people and civilization... I love this video, it's so stunning and mystical. Her visuals are always so beautiful and interesting, they're art. I love when her videos are like movies.
This is one of my favorite videos/songs. I just like the simple shots of her looking into the camera singing; she's so beautiful and so is the song. It just kinda calms me and makes me think things are alright. :^)
I used to not like my name since it was "weird" to many growing up... but I grew to appreciate and love my "really unique" variation name. Especially after this song... n yes, my name really is Isobel.
Quando to fascinada por uma música eu quero botar o msm nome na minha filha kkkk Isobel da Björk, Charlotte da banda The Cure, Annabel da banda Alesana
I love björk's songs, she is very innovative, especially this song, in the video I can see her as if she were a very different storyteller for children, I love it!
Sometimes in life you hear music that goes beyond everything you ever heard before /she is the queen of music that sentient ,empathic etc people know how to express their emotions. /loved her music all my life 2023 xx

In 1995, my 11th grade year at a new High School in a city next to where I lived..I entered the lip sinc contest to perform on stage to the song of my choice. I chose "Bigtime Sensuality" and there was someone in the audience who threw ice cubes from a soda pop cup at me as I danced and lip sinc'd Bjorks song for every body. I didn't mind. I thought it was cute. I sprinkled glitter all over the stage while I danced and sang. It was fun! I wasn't the winner of the contest but it was a pleasure and honor to represent Bjork. I love Bjork. Thank you for letting me share.
After reading a comment Bono made about how he really likes her, I decided to Take another listen and look. I have ro say she is definitely progressive, outstanding voice and incredible videos. ❤
Oh! will you look at this now. Quit task at hand and focus on real stuff: watch Björk's Isobel :D I've been adoring this song forever, can't believe I had never watched this video. One can imagine how I feel right now
