Killed Euronymous to prove Varg was the "most evil". Because simple self defense apparently doesn't exist, This Exists.
@aaronmcbryer3980
@aaronmcbryer3980 8 лет назад
***** Really good points you have there. But the thing about the killing that leads to self-defense for me is that Euronymous went at him with a butcher knife, Varg feared that if he didn't subdue or kill him at that moment, then Euronymous would've just made another attempt at him later. And because Blackthorn/Snorre tends to back that statement seeing as he witnessed most of it. I'll damn sure agree with you about calling most of the musicians "racist", it seems today that anyone who expresses pride and interest in their European heritage and wants to embrace the old culture and traditions gets labeled "racist". It's ridiculous. About Varg being racist: sure, he's said some inflammatory stuff when he was a younger man, but that doesn't reflect his current views. I watch his videos and correspond with him quite a bit, he's even said those views haven't been relevant with him since the late 90's. He said that prison gives you a lot of time to think and assess yourself. He said that, in interviews from the early 90's, he was mainly just being an "edgy", young guy. He had a very short lived relationship with NS in the late 90's, but it really didn't last more than a few months. Varg, as of the late 90s onward, is just a European traditionalist. The dude's matured and evolved quite a lot since the 90's.
@aaronmcbryer3980
@aaronmcbryer3980 8 лет назад
***** Oh of course. I knew what you meant. Varg had a lot of good things going on at that time, he wouldn't have jeopardized all that over some macho, childish bullshit.
@huntercampbell8064
@huntercampbell8064 8 лет назад
+Aaron McBryer I thought Varg became racist in prison? Or was that just because of his European ideology that people claimed was racist?
@aaronmcbryer3980
@aaronmcbryer3980 8 лет назад
Hunter Campbell What's ironic is that he ditched any racist beliefs he had while he was in prison. Having European ideologies can cause lesser educated, or just more "sensitive", people to label someone a racist because apparently having pride if you're white merits racism in this kindergarten class of a world these days.

It's kind of like people going on haunted tours. They may do it out of curiosity, a desire to be scared, to learn, or even to put themselves figuratively in the shoes of those within the area of the event. Motivation for seemingly weird decisions for vacations doesn't really know boundaries.

I think 'dark' tourism is a great way to connect with history, even if it is connecting with tragic parts of it. But, I think that's why it's important to have things like that there for the visiting because it reminds people that life is fleeting and so you should appreciate your existence while you're here. And as for which dark tourism spot I'd like to visit - they don't do tours or anything like with the blackpackers, but I'd love to go and see the suicide forest in Japan.

There is an infamous fortress prison in Sinop, Turkey that was used from 16th century until 1999. Now it's a museum and one of the guardians that used to work there now guides the tours. There are rumorsof deep and dark dungeon-like cells that are not secret and not shown to visitors, since they are too depressing and inhumane.

Centralia, Pennsylvania. A fire rages in the coal mines beneath the ghost town, and will burn for longer than I'll be alive. Something about the place is so, so beautiful to me. I like to think of these places as the scars of our world. Like regular scars, they tell a story. What happened? Why did it happen? What can we learn from it? It's pretty amazing, when you think about it.

You should talk about the Kiss Kruises, a cruise that Kiss has been running since 2011 where they get a bunch of Kiss events going, have a bunch of other bands and Kiss tribute band come on and preform, they started doing themes for the cruises and its all usually during Halloween or just after. Thought it would be a cool thing to talk about on This Exists.

I went to the killing fields and genocide museum in Cambodia. While the sites were dark, I think seeing these things in person makes their loss real. A show on history is one thing, but seeing for yourself ensures it stays with you. I think dark tourism is another tool to learn from our past. It had the added advantage of having living survivors to explain things. While their temples were epic (Angkor and Koh Ker), the dark history was just as moving. At least for me.

New Jersy Pine Barrens. From what I understand it is littered with the bodies of original settlers and Natives. The body count is so numerous and the graves are often unmarked due to rot and the passage of time. It is one of the last places in the US that you could probably get away with digging all day and recovering human remains to take home for posterity. The forest also hosts the largest and most diverse population of carnivorous plants. Furthermore, it is said that it is the birthplace of the Jersy Devil. HOW COOL IS THAT!?

I think it's perfectly valid. "Morbid Curiosity" is more often than not just an impulse to try and figure out something you don't understand. Serial killers are pop-culture and the news are practically reality TV more than anything else, so why not go that extra mile and just take your interests into the open? It's not like it's going to make *you* dangerous after all, so there's no reason to be ashamed of admitting that you, like I, would rather go to Treblinka than bake in a sunchair for 14 days straight. My dream vacation at the moment is a tour of Germany's best WW2 museums. I find the idea of your average luxurious resort-vacation to be dreadfully boring. I'd like to actively do something, and preferably something I couldn't just as well do from home. I don't think there's anything particularly morbid about that.

well if you think about it, most tours dealing with any kind of history can be considered 'dark tours' because let's face it, history can be really dark, but I guess the only ones who are truly 'dark' are the ones that go though the whole history with very few details left out, instead of most tours that tend to breeze by the dark parts or touch on them very lightly.

Not sure if this counts as Dark Tourism, but round about my 14th Birthday I visited Egypt and spent my special teenage wanderlust tour at the Valley Of The Kings, seeing Tut's tomb as well as seeing his treasures in Cairo's Museum. Some men have Kodak Moments, I had Conan Moments, paying homage to Rameses II, kneeling to the mummy of Ozymandias himself firsthand. Not everything about metal involves crime scenes, sometimes it's simple as communing beside long dead pharaohs like the world's most eager Nile fanboy.

would dark tourism be related to people who like to tour haunted buldings, seems like it would but the difference is the appeal, i think for some people goin to a place of death with historical facts in one thing but to travel and tour a haunted of where the story may be fact or fiction and (if you believe in that stuff) may or may not be real

Also have you seen this? www.goodreads.com/book/show/297986.James_Dean_Died_Here its dated so newer things aren't involved but it tells you how to get to certain places, its not all macabre either.

If I ever happen to go to Oslo, I'll definitely visit Helvete, or Euronymous' flat.

at about 4 minutes in: Gaol is the UK spelling, it is pronounced the same as 'jail'. thank Webster for the confusion.

I went to Graceland. I fail to see how it “relates to death,” though. Just because Elvis died there..? It was his home, lol. It’s not like it’s a selling point for visitors.

When I was in Chicago I took a tour based on the first (documented) serial killer in the US. There's a book about him too called Devil in the White City.

Or like D-day tourism in Normandy, France. I lived there for a year and immediately thought the whole tourism industry creepy living off a big carnic trauma. Regarding I lived in Oslo for 8 years and found the black packer-thing no way near as eery, I think you're on to something.

Im actually born and raised basically where mayhem started and had their first band practices (a youth club) Sometimes some random people from Czech or whatever would just show up and scare all the kids hanging out at the youthclub and walk around with hoods and chant and shit.

The Tuol Sleng genocide museum and Choeung Ek killing fields in Cambodia are both examples of popular 'dark tourism' destinations.

Can you make a this exists about German music? I'm mean there's no apparent reason to do that but it's kind of interesting and I really wanna hear you pronounce German band names

i think dark tourism would attract a few different types of people some who are like oh cool dead bodies where here and some more there to pay homage to the dead. i think sometimes the gravity of events that have transpired is lost. like people who take selfies at funerals, there was a kid a while ago (probably a year or two) who was taking selfies in a concentration camp. or justin beaber saying anne frank would had been a fan of his. its this weird thing where people need to understand the significance of the world and the events that shape it.

I wonder if they have a dress code. Would I get boo'd or denied if I wanted to take a tour wearing light colours? Just hop onto the bus in a neon pink outfit.

I've seriously considered visiting North Korea. There are tours there and it's not as dangerous as one might think. I can't imagine such a dystopia could be around for very long and who knows how long it could be safe travelling there. In fact, Koryo Tours could be a This Exists episode on it's own. There are many fascinating rules the tourists have to abide by. For instance, don't write anything down since journalists are strictly prohibited from going there.

I'd argue that whether Graceland constitutes dark tourism depends on why you're going there. Are you going there because it's where Elvis lived and recorded a number of his later records, and because the place is a museum to the man and his work in music? Then no. Are you going there to see the toilet he died on? Then yes.

My number one dark tourism destination is Chernobyl, but that won't be happening in a hurry. The darkest places I've visited so far were Sachsenhausen and Hohenschönhausen prison. My next dark tourism destination will be Malekula (old cannibals' island, part of Vanuatu). But I also visit completely normal places.

Ever thought of doing an episode on DSBM (Depressive suicidal black metal) It's something quite, special and pretty much every country does it it's own way.

How is describing what is happening now as far as tourism bastardizing black metal? My choices would be Helvete shop and Chernobyl.
