There's tons of "Ozzy or nothing" fanboys out there - I'm not one of them, Martin is second only to Dio at the helm of Sabbath. In fact, they've never had a terrible frontman, Jeff Fenholt just didn't fit, Dave Walker was interesting. I really enjoyed Glenn Hughes and Ray Gillen as lead singer and even the Ian Gillan album was cool. Ozzy is Ozzy, of course I like his stuff but he's the original, not the best.
this is the first time i had ever heard his vocals, i am really impressed with his range, Ala Dioesque vocal style, i dont know why nobody gave this talent a chance to branch out, Malmsteen he would be perfect for his style of music, wow im impressed, hands down a great vocalist.
@@fretman09 The more you hear of him, the less he sounds like Dio. That was my initial impression, "Budget Dio" but Tony's an incredible talent and his vocal range was out of this world at his peak. There's a live performance of Sabbath Stones in Eindhoven (very low quality) on YT which is album perfect - it was an astounding performance but sadly he permanently damaged his voice around 92/93.
This album has remained in my metal rotation for decades. The Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath is unique, particularly during the 90’s when this type of metal was overlooked by many. The songs are timeless and the melodies retain that classic Sabbath dark metal gloom, but Tony’s vocals put Sabbath in a class by themselves…so professional, so clean. And Cozy Powell’s drum kit work was the perfect formula with their slow, thunderous tempo. I was fortunate enough to see Tony Martin play with Cozy and Iommi back in the early 90s and was amazed with how loud the show was, but very clean and clear, impressive for sure. Enjoy this classic track and album, and long live rock n roll. 👊🤘
I am 66 now and a fan since 1971. Still I am intrigued by Tony Iommi and what he can do with his guitar, it's fantastic. Tony Martin has an incredible voice, for me "Headless Cross" and "TYR" are like treasures to me and I do still enjoy them very much today.
This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Criminally underrated. Glad there are so many positive voices on RU-vid now, giving Martin cred he deserves. Back in the late 90s, you hardly couldn't find any positive comment on internet.
If this was on an album not called Black Sabbath, in 1987, it would have been a very well received song. Deservedly. It is an excellent metal tune, by any standard! Well written, catchy, beautifully played by Iommi (of course), and masterfully sung by Martin! If someone claimed this was the best vocals of any Sab tune... while I'd disagree, I probably wouldn't argue. "Yeah, I respect that opinion!" Lol.
I think Black Sabbath took Martin for being the ''Dio type'' of vocal, it's not his fault he did better than Dio in this band. Martin together with Ray Gillen (not Ian Gillan!) are the best vocals Sabbath ever had.
@@sebastiansabogal5898 People can be a bit funny and unreasonable in these kind of 'issues of the taste' -- others will get so easily worked up over a simple question of a subjective view of a certain issue at hand. No need to get riled up over such thing, but some are just not that self aware of things like that.
Oz is Oz... he has his thing, and nobody does it better! And really, ironically, I don't think Oz gets the credit he deserves as an actually really great singer! Having said... Yeah, Dio and Martin destroy Ozzy in nearly every aspect of singing! Range, pitch, clarity, vibrato, tone, etc., etc. True masters. 🤘
The TYR album is a phenomenal album in the old school metal genre. The song writing is amazing on almost all of the songs on this album. I like the Norse mythology atmosphere saturating the album. It was ahead of its time in terms of choice of a subject matter that would appeal to many fans of the Vikings show today. The lyrics are great and often with a depth of philosophical twist. Masterly sung by Tony Martin. And then there's the music. The compositions are fantastic. Songs are both melodic, advanced - yet hard rocking. And then there's the riffs- the heavyness of Iomi's guitar penetrates all songs. I LOVE the riffs - especially the intro on Anno Mundi. It's so heavy it has gravity of itself. Rythmically perfect to the half tempo heavy beat. So fierce. The sound production is of the nineties off course. How I wish this album would get remastered and finally get the acknowledgement it truly deserves as a gem. And then that it could be found on Spotify. Whoever is blocking for this, I beg them to reconsider. This album is too good to be discarded.
Whoever synced this live video to the studio track was not only a genius and artist but had the patience of a brain surgeon! Bravo and Thank you for giving Tony Iommi / Tony Martin Black Sabbath fans such a gift. Amen sir/madam (as the case may be).
Can you see me, are you near me? Can you hear me crying out for life? Can you tell me, where's the glory? Ride the days and sail the nights When it's over you'll find the answer Running in the whispering rain Anno Mundi? Can you wonder! Truth or thunder, life or blame Do you see a vision of a perfect place? Does it make you laugh, put a smile on your face? Do you need a mirror, do you see it well? Does the hand of God still toll the bell? There are people laughing They're all laughing at you If only they could see what you're saying is true, oh yeah! Still generals fighting, making war on the world Don't they know, don't they know? No, no, no! As the wind in the night blows cold Your eyes are burning As the sands of our time grow old Anno Mundi, yeah! Do you follow the path that so many tread? Are you among the blind so easily lead? Do you join the war, do you fight for the cause? Depend on another to fight it alone As the wind in the night blows cold Your eyes are burning As the sands of our time grow old No, no, no! Can you see me now, can you hear me now? Can you tell me where's the glory? Ride the days and sail the nights When it's over, you'll find the answer Running in the rain Truth or thunder, life or blame! There's a hope that's growing and a vision too All those angry hearts now reach out for you Do you look to the dawn, see a new day begun? No longer the fool, the vision is done As the wind in the night blows cold Your eyes are burning As the sands of our time grow old Your eyes are burning As the wind in the night blows cold Your eyes are burning As the sands of our time grow old Your eyes are burning
it's a great effort by Tony Iommi and his then members, outside of Ozzy. I admire Iommi for his persistence, conviction, patience to move on and on and take the flame of metal forward through the decades, without caring how many critics or fans wrote him off. Tony Martin is brilliant But this album has brilliant tunes at par with any best heavy metal albums of all time.
What an amazing song. The verse riff in Gm has to be one of the heaviest, fattest riffs ever recorded to tape. I bought the lp when it came out and I still love love the song today.
Martin's vocals on albums from "Tyr" to "Forbidden" are just great. earlier he had too "virgin" voice. in this song vocals are awesome, this is how heavy-metal vocals should sound.
What an amazing riff, Tony came up with a lot of them, but this one takes it a step further, a vision. Rock on Tony, hope you're healthy. You're music has helped me so much, you wouldn't believe it, Thanks a hell of a lot!
I grew up with sabbath eventhogh it was in late 90's when I was in high school, sabbath will remain symbol of my youth. I actually was not a big fan of post-Dio stuff back then but now as grown-ass man I really start to discover and truly enjoy it. This just confirms that sabbath is my all-time favourite band.
This is definitely my favorite song from the Tony Martin era, if not my favorite BS song in general. What an earth shattering performance from every member of the band, especially Tony Martin and Cozy Powell.
Tony Martin has the range and very cool compression, like a mix of Don Dokken and Ronnie James Dio. Why Sabbath wants to "forget" this era is beyond me. People tell about many popular singers "they are underrated", but seriously he really IS one of the most underrated singers in rock/metal scene. There's a live performance, a few years back and he still sounded amazing and much better than most at that age.
The main reason this era is "forgot" about is because of the record label all of the Tony Martin albums (sans The Eternal Idol) were released by, IRS, was terrible and dealing with the rights to those albums post-IRS has been a pain. Its why none of them have ever been rereleased. Dehumanizer (which was released by IRS in Europe) did get released but I think that was able to happen because it got released by a a different label in the US. There was suppose to be a Tony Martin box set coming out this year but nothing really new has been talked about it since Tony Martin was given the go ahead to confirm it in January.
@@L0vac yeah hopefully it can still come out. Iommi has really wanted to release a remix of Forbidden to try to do it more justice (same with Born Again but that one was cause of the master tapes being lost but have since been found so hopefully BA gets a remix)
2023 год , слушаем и будим слушать. Ибо современная музыка подобного жанра не имеет такого созвучия , нет мелодии. BLACK SABBATH это вершина музыкального творения . Tony Martin потрясающий вокалист. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic album probably the most mature album they ever recorded, I love this slick and very moody album. Tony Martin is a brilliant singer and lyricist! I cannot stop playing this song I LOVE IT!
+Nevals Civonaja Because of that ridiculous myth that "Ozzy is Sabbath.Iommi is Sabbath PERIOD as you can see it on Heaven and Hell,The Headless Cross and TYR
I think it's right thing to say, to remember everyone, that this is a playback track they're playing. Doesn't change the matter anyway. Our so dear Cozy Powell, RIP, so deeply missed, plays the drum track, everybody knows. Tho' this is absolutely GREAT! Thanks for sharing!
Holy shit.. Black Sabbath is my #1 band, but I haven't heard this song, I guess its from the very underrated TYR album. I haven't listened to it much, and it was long time ago I listened to it.. I guess I have to listen to it again, this song is a killer song! Tony, amazing as always!.. Why isn't this so popular? Is it becouse it sounds a little bit more "melodic" ,,? Killer song!! Go Sabbath
Ben Dover It is, hands down, Sabbath's best song, and still so underrated. Why? Probably because it is too unlike previous Sabbath songs. But taken as a single song, not much can be considered better. That riff, that singing.. holy cow
man... we´re talking about singers who have been on this business form more than 30 years you can't pitch those high notes ever, Halford , Meine, Dokken, Coverdale, GIllan all of them has losing their high notes, hace you listening Tony's recent works? he is doing great for his age!
He have no lost his voice, listen to his Giuntini Project albums or The Cage or his vocals on Darkest Hour by Secret Society (this is pretty new), he still have a great voice.
I just listened to their entire dischography in my car during the last two weeks and this is by far the best song of black sabbath. Can't believe it is so unknown
This is the kind of music that provokes great memories and deep nostalgia...(any metalhead that was around in the 80s knows what I mean)...but unfortunately, I've only just "discovered" these Tony Martin albums....after ignoring them for decades!! WTF was I thinking??? Truly amazing music!!
This kids is what you call a bloody amazing song! Tony Martin has a great voice and that's such a mean riff by Iommi. The chorus is quite triumphant aswell
