All the 'disco glam' was as much Blondie as the 'punk roots', which any real fan should know was never really true. They made the music they wanted to make. All you fools can take you punk rock guide book and stick it up your there with your heads.
I agree. Very talented and not always credited for that. Sadly our bodies age but our spirit and soul seem to develop. Strangely strange but oddly normal.
As a young 22 year old, a woman, and a big music fan, this woman and band has paved the way for me. Everything about Debbie had/sex appeal, everything about her, what a performer! As a lover of music and a young girl, blondie are everything and the best musical group I have loved and listened to. My love for this band is beyond limits. The day we lose Deb will be a tragic day, what a woman.
Yay! Debbie and whole band was so original, sound original, great musicians, fun and yet serious but oh so much fun! And I agree about Clem Burke.. I still think about his drumming when I am slowly learning it now years later.
@mangore623 Kudos for spelling indefatigable correctly. On the internet yet! Where great pride is taken in NOT being able to spell anything. Sorry. It's a clear night, and there were no clouds for me to shout at.
Great observation! It's no secret that many female lead singers in recent years try to outdo each other by seeing who can wear less and less clothing, showing more and more skin -- thinking they are really "cutting edge" by doing so -- yet there was Debbie. oozing sexuality in baggy clothing, completely covered.
@@nickmorrell3559 I'm a young 22 year old, but truly, Debbie is unmatchable and completely unique. There will never ever be another Debbie Harry, no matter what
Misfit Toys used to cover it. Taking a cue from Debbie the singer would put on shades, throw a beach towel over her shoulder and yell 'is everybody ready to hang ten?' The drummer was classic rock and refused to play the 'new music' in 1985 until he heard Clem then he was all for it.
@@theoriginalmisfittoys3784 Hell, ... thanks really a LOT for mentioning this!! Even I couldn´t find that cover version anywhere, ... I at least within your videos gave all the songs a deep listening, incl. Stop & Fade Away (what an awesome & outstanding cut)!! Any idea where I could grab the album by?? Cheers - Rudi
I was 4 but grew up with older siblings who thankfully discovered blondie. Hence by 10 the sound was a staple of my life , still rank them in my top 5 of all time.
Infante, the punk nerve; Destri the pop side; Harrison and Stein the new-waver; Burk and Deborah... well everything: pop, punk, soul, rap, rock even jazz.
It's not just her looks and singing skills, it's Debbie's performance and mannerisms every time, the lady and the whole band are truly something special. Great upload, Kim :)

Don't forget that Rapture crap. Man when tide is high came out ,I was in a deep depression....after Eat To The Best. Then again everyone sucked in the 80s. I could name 10 bands that were great in late 70s ,and sold out in 80s. Blondie, pat Benetar, The Card J. Geils band. The Pretenders. Reo Speedwagon, etc
This is the best early Blondie I've seen such amazing live performance showing their amazing talent before they were famous. Debbie is an amazing front woman - totally lives the performance.
The more I see of this band the more I am impressed and I saw them when they first broke out. All accomplished musicians and the drop dead gorgeous Debbie, no way they were going to fail..
No way in hell they were gunna fail, as a young 22 year old, all of their music is still in my daily music rotation. Debbie Harry is completely unique and unmatchable, as a fan of Britney Spears, Madonna, you name it, no one will ever come close to the sheer talent and performer Debbie was and still is. Debbie Harry is the reason I have chased my music, played my guitar and sung songs. She is everything, she has been for the last 40 odd years, she paved the way for every woman in music today, whether she knows that or now. I cannot express the respect, gratitude and love I have for Debbie, she's changed the game, and it will forever be different. No hate by the way, I'm all love! I'm a bit drunk at the minute and I'm a passionate musician!
Its 1977 and Blondie starts their Hostile Takeover of Punk Rock .....They had the songs the drummer and the girl.....What else does a Band really need?.....
DEBBIE IS AMAZING. BLONDIE... THE MOST UNDERRATED BAND IN HISTORY. THEY ABSOLUTELY ROCK. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY WERE MORE PUNK. Hot to go, like Jimmy O...(AKA Iggy Pop) THEN AGAIN... THE 80s DID A LOT OF WEIRD THINGS TO A LOT OF PEOPLE...(cocaine fueled brains) LOL...
One thing I love about this band, besides Debbie and the durmmer, the bass lines are always amazing. The whole band was amazing, but something about the bass and drums made the band sit on that base and propelled the high notes.
Debbie was always way ahead...... she can REALLY sing... and she was wearing overknees decades before the girlies detected that style a few years ago just adore her..and the band, of course legend!!!
Are they (the spectators) realizing they're listening to the Blondie funniest and so talenteous songs ? A legend of punk rock is borning in front of them.
The hard early yards. Paid off handsomely (don't mean money) to become wanted by men with taste for something primevally satisfying. Undisputed Queen❤️❤️❤️❤️
God think about what most music was in 1977…..the. A band like Blondie ( and I emphasize band because so often Blondie and Deborah Harry are used interchangeably.. they are a great tight band and I love them all) comes out of the NY scene … who knows what the crowd thought of them? I was so sad when they reunited without Destri, Nigel and the guitarist… they look so young…. I maintain that 1977-1980 had the most amazing music that spawned so may genres
Woah now, Jimmy, Frank and Nigel need to be recognized as well. Only the band members know why they aren’t currently in the band but that doesn’t mean the 6 of them were BLONDIE 1978-1982 at their peak and all 6 were perfect for the band and made absolute gold
Clem Burke is one of the strongest rock drummers I have heard (now seen on video!) Ringo Starr was more of a 'minimalist' drummer who knew where to put 'his stuff' without intruding. Clem Burke is a masterful partner with all of the actors/musicians on these tracks.
@@brando7266 Ringo played simple but could hold a tempo - Clem could not and tried to cover it with showboating and fill-ins where they were not necessary for the music - indeed a different level. I am a bassplayer and I played with these Clem-Clowns: They could not play simple and became cry babies when they realized they could not hold a tempo. BTW This happened with Burke when he recorded Heart of Glass.
@@brando7266 Drumming (and music) is not about doing one particular song. Neither Ringo nor Clem were studio drummers like Hal Blaine & Co. But many studio drummers said Ringo's style of drumming was not that easy to emulate - mostly because he was a left-handed drummer playing a right-hand drum kit. I never heard that Clem was hard to emulate.
Plastic Letters their best album I think. She was such a great front woman. She's so tough and not bothered by her obvious beauty. You get the sense she never cared what she looked like. Made you love her more.
la escucho muy seguido y cada dia me gusta mas, I listen Blondie very often, she is so lovely, that I can confess i was in love with her,,,, ( I hope my wife does not read this message lol )
Fantastic! When they appeared on the scene I was in High School. What a breath of fresh air compared to the mainstream crap that was around then. Worked a Security detail for them a few years back. I was not disappointed to see them behinds the scenes, unlike most of the acts I've worked with.
Two friends of mine and I met Debra and Chris after their set opening for The Kinks in July of 1978 to arrange an interview for a local radio station. Very nice they were, Chris had their stage togs in a grocery bag and we exchanged pleasantries, took a couple of photos, got our ticket stubs autographed and got their room number. Turns out their manager had swapped rooms with the band and had not been informed of the Clem Burke arranged interview. Doubtful he was even after he tuned a radio to the station's frequency and we identified the on-air program. Interview cancelled. If you run across some photos online from that year of the band hanging out around an empty hotel pool that's the place they were staying. Coincidentally, cattycornered from a punk club where I DJ'd.
Agreed! Everyone goes on about Debbie & fair enough. But I loved the rest of the band just as much. Can't explain how much as a teenager I wanted to be one of them playing in that band.
dateline Washington.................. see there is things called real boys and then a really raw and real girl. this classy girl will never want to be called a boy. music once again smashes ego lawmakers to fine powder. music says, just shut up and dance. Clem is smashing the smashing the smashing skins.
12:04 - coll haw drummer makes the stop-beat-thingie on the cymbal totally timed after just having beaten his set to pulp... 'Fan Mail' is the Blondie song that has everything ..
