My mom went carnivore when she got a pre diabetic diagnosis a little over a year ago. She went full carnivore for a month and a half and her pre diabetes was gone in that short of an amount of time. She also healed her 23 year diagnosis of hypothyroidism with carnivore. She now eats mostly red meat but also eats fruits and the occasional veggie or salad and also makes her own bread and eats a piece of that with some grass fed butter occasionally as well. She’s lost 50lbs and doesn’t workout. She’s very happy. I’ve been stressing with full blown carnivore for a while now and have been craving carrots and mushrooms and onions. So my husband and I decided to occasionally add in veggies. Animal based is what I have decided to move to. I also absolutely love cooking beautiful meals so moving back to red meats as a majority but also some low toxic veggies and berries

Because of circumstances similar to your mother's, I too adopted the same eating habit as hers minus the bread. I've been doing this for about four months now and I think what I am learning based on hearing/reading experiences of many people is that we need to learn to tweak our macro-nutrients to what works right for the individual. But I can say one thing most of us can all agree, the key to this whole thing working is to swear off all refined sugars, processed carbohydrates, refined seed oils, and alcohol. Everything one needs to survive with a healthy diet is found in the perimeter of one's local grocery store. Practically everything within the isles is completely unhealthy.
@sidneybuckaloo
@sidneybuckaloo Год назад
@@mxyzplk68 I totally agree. Carnivore isn’t for everyone and most people simply use it as a tool to heal chronic ailments. My mom now eats a lot of fruit and some bread but still mostly red meat. She doesn’t need to worry about fructose anymore because she isn’t pre diabetic anymore. Carnivore is a lifestyle for some and a tool for others. As long we remember that we pay attention to our bodies and do what you said… eat a whole food diet. Real food. Nothing that comes in a box or a bag.

Dr. Cywes did go down a little bit of a rabbit trail. I had to listen twice when he said "yes" carnivore is harming your body in the long run. He said it is IF you are too strict and eat with lack of variation in the food and routine. I like how you were able to summarize what he said to make it more clear. He seems to be ignoring the fact that many people's ancestry (Europeans, etc.) was carvivore with only a weeks each year of eating plants when they were in season. Archeologists have discovered that after agriculture came into being, people became shorter and less robust eating grains and reduced animal products. For those avoiding accidents and diseases, these people lived robust and long lives.

I think it's important to listen to our bodies after we get rid of carbs and chemicals. Sometimes we need more salt... Sometimes we need more fat... Sometimes we need seafood... Sometimes we need chicken or pork... Sometimes we need leaner red meat... Sometimes we need to eat 3 or 4 meals per day... Sometimes we need to fast for different amounts of time. There's no one way that will work for everyone because we're bio-individual. Variety in meats and fats and eating windows is important. That was my take away from your interview. Thanks for being out there for us!! ❤

That's been my favorite thing about this way of eating: it requires me to actually pay attention to and listen to my body. It's definitely been a bit of a learning curve, but I'm starting to get better at giving my body a break when it feels like I need to fast for a bit or eating another meal if it feels like my body needs more food. If I'm getting a headache I increase my salt intake. If I feel like I'm getting swollen (I also have autoimmune so that comes into play) I'll back off the salt and drink more water. It's a great lesson is listening to our bodies.

I've eaten a low carb diet for 30 years now. I originally enjoyed meat and lots of fresh vegetables so going to a low carb diet was no great change for me. I never was much for sugar to start with beyond liking candy as most people do. The only thing I noticed was a lack of energy going to an atkins diet. That went away with time. All these years I've limited myself to around 12 carbs per day. Surprisingly to me my triglycerides are as low as 45 showing no signs of increasing. I've never worried about how much fat I eat or gone out of my way to increase the amount of fat. I do cook in butter and add bacon fat to my greens when I cook them. I also enjoy cheese and eggs frequently. As a matter of fact I eat eggs and pork for my breakfast almost every day. Some days skipping lunch as the high protein and fat breakfast carries me for six or more hours easily. My dinner in normally meat or seafood and two small servings of fresh low carb vegetables. I do eat as wide a variety of meats and meat cuts as I can afford. My only issue is high ldl. In truth I never worry about it but my doctor keeps telling me I'm going to die if I don't do something about it. He insists it's clogging my arteries yet I had a nuclear scan done a few years back than showed no issues. I've tried to go along with his recommendations but unfortunately I can't tolerate statins. Within a week my hands and feet and other joints are so painful that it's difficult to use my hands or even walk. I don't remember what my ldl is but it's not all that above normal for most people. I'm simply not ready to be an invalid to avoid any side effects from ldl. I'm 73 now and still active and control my weight well with my low carb diet.
@jorty.
@jorty. 5 месяцев назад
Do NOT do statins. Those doctors do not educate themselves. Listen to Dr. Odville a heart surgeon who explains cholesterol perfectly. He himself went carnivore. It is about ratio tri and HDL. Also LDL can be high but that says nothing. There is sLDL and hLDL. The 's' is what clogs arteries but on that statins DO NOT WORK. The large particle LDL called hLDL is not an issue.

I loved what you said about calling it “Animal Based”. That’s essentially what I’m calling my diet. I’m not perfect carnivore even though there are many days were my diet is exclusive animal foods, but that doesn’t mean I won’t have the occasional sweet potato, honey, Brussels sprouts, etc. I have those in very limited amounts if at all but I’m at the point now were I just listen to what my body wants. Rather than having the same thing everyday. When I do that, I feel best because then I realize that there are days where more fat is best and days where I’m craving just lean chicken meat with very little fat. I have days where some honey sounds wonderful, and I just eat it in small amounts. With all that said, let’s not become the animal based version of vegans. Vegans can be a problem, not because of their diet, but their attitude. With that said, today was a very high fat day. I had very little protein probably because I’ve been walking a lot so my body needs more fat energy vs days when I’m sedentary and I don’t crave as much fat.

The difference between vegans and carnivore and why vegans are a pain in the ass is they try to force their way of eating on you based on moral and ethical reasoning. Carnivores just get tired of people saying they are doing a diet and getting advice from people who don't follow the diet. Now you do you just don't offer advice to people on the actual carnivore diet.
@pinkdiscomosh2766
@pinkdiscomosh2766 3 года назад
@@carnivorepolice5-0 I guess to clarify my comment a bit more, I’ve noticed in the carnivore community that there’s this annoying battle of definition and what constitutes a “pure” carnivore diet. Now I don’t mind clarity and parameters with defining a certain way of eating which is exactly what differentiates carnivores and vegans in the first place, but I feel like if your someone who eats 98% animal food only with the occasional non-animal based product like pickles or something, your not “carnivore” enough and your entire experience and ability to confirm the benefits of carnivore are invalidated. I don’t agree with that, but that’s also why I just say I do Ketovore, Primal, or Animal Based, because of the tight wads. I don’t entirely thinks it’s beneficial and I want better for our community, but I respect that people are sticklers about it. ✌️
@carnivorepolice5-0
@carnivorepolice5-0 3 года назад
@@pinkdiscomosh2766 uhm so you have no problem with people clarifying their position but feeling that people will say your cucumbers are not carnivore invalidates your experience. It's interesting but in my opinion it does invalidate your perspective on a very specific diet when you are not actually following said diet. For instance under your circumstances if my wife would have been trying carnivore and she loves pickles you would have told her she was fine most likely and it's still carnivore, she would not have discovered that pickles are a major inflamation issue for her.
@pinkdiscomosh2766
@pinkdiscomosh2766 3 года назад
@@carnivorepolice5-0 So I think you and I are arguing about two different things. Forgive my lack of clarity. 😅 In my understanding, doing “Carnivore” is eliminating all inflammatory foods, reducing your diet to animal sources of food so as to reduce your bodies inflammatory markers. This process may also include animal foods that cause inflammation for some people like dairy products. Once you have reduced your bodies inflammation, you may reintroduce various foods to see if your body tolerates them, which for me just so happens to be pickles 😉. In other words, I don’t see the carnivore diet as simply just a carnivorous diet where all non animal based foods are exclude just for the sake of being carnivorous. That’s the kind of thinking that vegans take where they exclude all animal foods for the sake of being herbivores. I get it though, the definition of a carnivore is eating exclusively animal foods, but I don’t believe that definition fits well with what a carnivore diet is trying to achieve which is optimal health utilizing animal based foods as our point of recovery. If anyone wants to identify with carnivore simply for the sake of being carnivorous; fine, but I see it as more than that. It’s a method, not simply a list of particular foods. Though that method does require that you reduce your diet down to animal products exclusively for a time, then sure, we can agree on that, but to rip the carnivore diet title from someone the moment they realize that they tolerate pickles seems like a very vegan thing to do. That’s what I meant about the vegan attitude in my first post.

@@mj625 Thank you so much, MJ, for your reassuring words. And I would have been comfortable believing that - already DID believe it, in fact - until about 4 days ago when I got my blood tests back. Because instead of the particle size/type LDL tests I asked for (I still don't remember what that's called; NMR lipid panel?) AND CRP & CAC, which she also didn't do🤔🤨), I discovered my doctor had only asked for an Lp(a) test instead, which proved to be quite high (92, when normal would be less than 50). And I wasn't even aware of what that was...but I am now, lol, and am suddenly feeling pretty unsure. My LDL is up 7 pts to 163, so maybe that's not too troubling; and my TTL Chol is actually down 27 pts to 229, which when divided by my HDL, is 3.5, which supposedly means "1/2 the risk" of CVD. And happily, my Tri/HDL is pretty good too (75/65 = 1.15). BUT Lp(a) seems to trump them all, so I think it's probably time I saw a cardiologist, lol. The remarkable thing is, my primary care doc, who is an internist, has never referred me to one, even tho' she says it looks like I had a slight heart attack a few years ago! (I'm 75.) And when I started asking for these tests, she said what's the point when it will only result in another recommendation of a statin, and she knows I'm reluctant to take one! I like to keep an open mind and not get too dogmatic. I'm currently taking a class in nutrition and although they push the traditional USDA (MyPlate) diet, it's helping me understand the body's process better. My current thinking is high protein/low carb is best for me with some fruit and veggies, little to no grains, avoid added sugar, but don't torture yourself if you occasionally eat desert, etc. I'm not so concerned with fat/cholesterol on carnivore/keto but maintaining electrolyte balance and maintaining a diverse microbiome so that if I want to eat various foods it's not a disaster. I'm currently trying to find the optimal amount of macro nutrients for me so that I can maintain my weight and feel good! Muscle is important too, I like Dr Gabrielle Lyon's approach on a muscle-centric diet.

Java Mon, you have a hard road ahead of you doing a nutrition class when you know much of their information is incorrect. As I've heard Dr. Ken Berry advice medical students just sit there, don't make waves, give them the answers they expect so you can get your degree. Then your real education begins. As far as eating fruit and veggies I typically eat fruit in moderation only when it is in season, rest of the year I don't eat it. Good luck in your studies.

@@MS45636 We are apex predators, evolved to eat meat and a few fruits and veggies. Most plants should be eaten by ruminant animals who have the proper digestive system to process plant nutrients, and then we can eat those animals. That's how I see the food chain. Keto Flu is basically just electrolyte imbalance because you need to manage things better instead of just eating whatever. I never experienced either flu from doing keto or carnivore and jumping straight into it. Carbs were mainly for food shortages or famines (ie wars) e.g. Irish famine when the British tried to genocide the Irish, they turned to potatoes as foods, and this happened with rice in Asia etc. carbs are cheaper. Our bodies have been used to eating carbs etc our entire lives, hence, our body reacts to not having them. Do not get your kids addicted to carbs and sugars. It’s not child abuse to not give your kids sugar, it’s child abuse to give them mcdonalds and lollies.

Very informative video! I have been on carnivore for about 4 months. My LDL, A1C, and triglycerides all increased at my last appointment. I was very disappointed. I was expecting my numbers to be better because I have lost 22 pounds and feel better than I have felt in 10-15 years. When I went to my appointment, I was on a 36-hour fast. I am 51 years old, 6' and started at 240lbs. I exercise (walk and lift weights) everyday and only eat two meals a day. My doctor wants me to take statins and insulin but I am going to wait. He is so right! In my case anyway! I wish I would have found this sooner! I started Keto 7 years ago. Moderate protein (for my size 5'3) and high fat. I was eating 50-60g of protein per day and 200g of fat (roughly) and lost 120#. I felt great. Sugars stayed 60-80 daily. I could not get the last 10lbs off that I wanted. (realizing now I should have just been happy at 132lbs). I found carnivore. Thinking maybe i need to drop fats and increase protein. I was fat adapted. I felt great to start with only ribeyes and beef and eggs and butter. I started not tracking, eating all the beef i wanted and then gained 30lbs after 2 years of carnivore i started tracking again. Checked my fasting sugars and boom 100-110. What! I was getting 100 to 170g of protein per day and felt so hungry. I couldn't get enough food. So yes, my protein had started storing as fat! I have since dropped my protein back to 55-80g per day and can tell that my body is sensitive to this because my sugars spike on lower fat days. I just hope i can get back in balance.

I have to agree with Dr Cywes bc I experienced the same symptoms myself after 1yr of strict carnivore. What I have learned is that just because doing something good is beneficial it should not mean doing more of it is better. Human body and hormones adapt (evolution) to our environment, diet, stresses etc over time. What I found what works best for me is to cycle through all macros periodically, eat clean, eat seasonally, exercise. It prevents our physiology from moving too far in a certain direction and in good metabolic balance.

I too have never had keto flu and eased into it over several months. I still have the odd vegetable and I do think it's a great diet. No, people do understand it. The doctor is right, in the long run it will ruin your health. Does it have short term benefits? Absolutely! The masai is a tribe in Africa, they live on a carnivore diet, and they have atherosclerosis just like we do on our standard american diet. It's just that they walk 10-12 miles a day, which widens their arteries. So even though their arteries are clogged, the widening due to exercise allows ample blood flow. So if you aren't living like how the Masai or Inuits ilve, getting plenty of exercise, burning like 2500 calories a day, you are clogging your arteries. If you want to go carnivore or keto temporarily as a sort of carb fast to drop weight, I see no issues with this, but it's not a lifestyle.

Thats so funny I have that conversation with my Mom about being Carnivore. She gets so concerned even though im not Carnivore but I believe it is sustainable and heathly! More power to anyone that wants to do it. God gave us many options of food and we dont live by food alone and the spirit and are attitude is just as important. I like to cycle through my eating habits and take away what benefits me and of course I do not have it all figured out either. The yardstick which should always be in the back of your mind is what our ancestral lifestyle would look like. Likely high variability in food sources, amounts, and circadian patterns, with an emphasis on animal food sources, but intermittent high intake of polyphenol rich plants, high fibre foods, sea foods, including small wriggly things from under rocks and seaweed. In Nothern Europe, you might have had woolly mammoth for a few months, followed by acorns and mushrooms. The effect of food is also modulated by exercise patterns, sun exposure patterns, and what the food that you eat, ate.

This was very helpful. I am on day 4 of carnivore and I wish I had watched this video 5 days ago. I did exactly what the doctor said I should not do and I suffered for it. I had 3 miserable days of headaches and nausea and dizziness and weakness and no focus or motivation. Yesterday wasn’t as bad as the day before, and today I’m quite a bit better…just did a few minutes on the rowing machine and I’m keeping up with chores around the house (sat in my chair and accomplished nothing the first 3 days). I just wish that I didn’t start so abruptly…meal time is awful since I don’t really like eating meat (I have a huge sugar tooth) and I definitely miss my energy drinks and coffee with flavoring in it. Going cold turkey (or should I say “cold beef”) like this is really challenging physically and emotionally. I have major cravings for candy and flavored drinks. I’m not sure what I should do now. Keep pushing forward and hope that my cravings change and my energy comes back fully, or add some things back into my diet and try to acclimate more slowly? And what do I do since I really don’t like meat? I’m already bored of eggs and bacon and steak and fatty pork…and I find chicken super boring and fish tastes disgusting to me. I just want the health benefits all the carnivore people talk about. I am trying but I have serious doubts in my ability to keep it up unless someone can tell me honestly that I will actually come to enjoy meat more.

Opinions become mute when results contradict them. I was a Type 2 diabetic strictly adhering to the diabetic approved diet and got my A1C down to a steady 8.4 on the normal meds prescribed for diabetes. Kidney function had dropped to 35% and going down and on the verge of stage 4. I started a strict carnivore diet for the last year and now my A1C is 5.2 and kidney function is 55%. My PCP tried warning me off the diet as basically being a stupid fad (His Words) but now can only say he doesn’t understand how this reversal has happened. Results trumps theory every time.

I think a huge component of carnivore is that people need to put those proteins, fats, and micronutrients to work to build something. Whether it's muscle or brain, ligament, tendon, enzymes, whatever... an important part of the nutrition plan is to build. Resistance work is tailor made for carnivore. I'm interested in understanding how it works for endurance exercises though, especially, as doc said, endurance athletes also need their carbs, especially on race day.

I do think plants are toxic though. 5 weeks carnivore, and my 30-year back problems and crooked spine are gone. Had 1 chicken leg with a coating on it, struggled to get out of bed the next day. If it causes inflammation that bad and that fast, its toxic. Liked the bit at the end though. What you eat in your 20s probably won't suit you in your 50s

Two questions from the opening scene. If plants are toxic and unhealthy for human metabolism, why shouldn't you advise others of such? And why is it relevant to be able to produce an insulin response when and if you do not eat carbohydrates? Bearing in mind that you do not need to eat any exogenous carbohydrates at all as the bodies needs for glucose is amply met by gluconeogenesis?

What I did was went from 250 carbs down to 100 the first week 75 week2 50 week3 25 week 4 then 0 week 5. That’s how I started carnivore it was super easy after week 2 I also incorporated fasting since I was morbidly obese. My 100 day transformation was 295 in January 2024 to last week April 2024 was under 215lb in 100 days over 80lbs now I also ate high protein 60/40 fat/protein ratio and I started at 1500 cals which was to low so I went to 1800 then 2100 cals and now I eat more than ever 2500-3700 cals a day and still losing fat and packing on muscle there is a learning curve and trial and error to this way of life

I have been a modified carnivore for 4 weeks and I have had nothing resembling keto flu. Perhaps this only happens to people who were previously on a SAD diet. Or a vegetarian/vegan diet for years. I was eating some meat, eggs, and raw dairy. What I had to get rid of was bread and sweet pastries (banana bread, muffins, crepes, etc.). So I stopped eating those and moved to a few prunes (carnivore constipates me) and a small amount of other fruit (berries, the occasional pear or peach in season, a banana now and then). The fruit keeps my bowels moving. I never was all that fond of veg, but they do tend to mess up my digestion, as I was reminded when I was gifted a large container of homemade spaghetti sauce from a lady pastor in a gift bag. I could not refuse, and I could not waste it. It turned out to contain TVP and sugar, but I felt obligated to eat a decent portion, which meant buying spaghetti (settled for pasta made from red lentils, which never seems to include the skins, so fewer lectins). But it was all kinds of carbs I didn’t want. and that unsettled my digestion. Starchy carbs and many veg give me horrific gas and discomfort. I’m so glad, the following day, to get back to meat, eggs and sanity. Only ribeyes and hamburgers and bacon can stop me from going back to sweet pastries and bread. Fortunately I’m simply not a binger. I can eat one of something, be satisfied, and stop. I’ve just absorbed too many sweets from early childhood (Fruit kuchen in huge slabs, stoellen at Christmas along with a dozen types of German Christmas cookies; candy at Halloween and at Easter; black cows (root beer over vanilla ice cream); ice creams and ice cream sandwiches and orange sherbert at school; the excellent doughnuts Grampa kept bringing home day after day…i was not a fat child but starting at puberty I gained a pound per year. Every year. 112 at 12; 118 at 18; 124 at 24 when I married, etc., right up to 173 lb at 73. I am expecting great progress from a meat-based diet. I’m also cooking more instead of eating out, so I can eliminate nearly all seed oils. I have no interest in fasting at present. Just adapting to a meat-based diet is enough of a change for now; I have lots of issues to overcome and heal from. When I feel so deeply fed and nourished and whole will be time enough to fast.

What I learned here is that, you have to consume for your body needs, If you not exercising, why eat ton of protein and fat? If you have slow metabolism, vs fast, you have to eat accordingly. Eating some honey for lean people is OK, why not?

Why is high fat not normal for any mammal? When animals eat their kills, they favor the fatty organ meat; liver, kidneys, intestines first. The muscle meat is the among the last thing they eat.
@LillieKane
@LillieKane 3 года назад
Liver, kidneys, and intestines are not high in fat 😊 He is saying sometimes (not all) his patients who eat a strict carnivore diet are eating the ribeye with a half stick of butter on it every day and since our ancestors wouldn’t have exclusively eaten the fatty meat cuts (and then add more fat on top), he just doesn’t believe people need to be eating as much fat every day. And some times having a leaner meat day is good. Though this is only for people who are seeing negative health results so I’m sure there are people who have been eating strict carnivore high fat diets for 10+ years and their blood markers are fine. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But if someone is experiencing negatives, an option would be reducing the fat sometimes and not doing as much extended or intermittent fasting since it’s a stress on the body and by eating 3 meals a day it can give the body a break. Hope this helps! 😊

@@LillieKane and I’m prefacing all this with all due respect. As a fellow physician, what Dr C is doing is great and I’ve been following him for years. But I don’t agree with everything he promotes and says and this is one of them. We both know carnivore/lion is very difficult in terms of strict compliance. I have a 98%+ attrition rate when I outline a SPECIFIC diet. The issue is YOU HAVE to basically eat the same thing daily, unlike what he is suggesting. It’s when you start to introduce variety that the wrong things start sneaking in. A keto snack here. A low carb beer or two there. Some fruit etc. Maybe just ONNNNNE slice of that cake because it’s Aunt Melba’s birthday…..

@@LillieKane this is like the discussion I have with cardiology colleagues, who cringe at my diet. So even though ALL studies on cardiac risk point to high HDL/low TGs show a cardio protective effect and low risk for an event, I’m the one human that this DOESN’T apply to in terms of risk. They go on about how my high HDL/low TG is “genetic”, even though for 30+ years before I started strict carnivore my HDL was low and TG high….. Again, physiologically impossible for TG to go up on a zero carb diet from a previous standard diet carb laden baseline level.

What he was saying was after being a veteran carnivore. One needs an insulin response. If you don’t then you cause harm. They vets aren’t getting this. If your burning resources then the top off increases. If obese or diabetic you have extra resources and need reduction. So the answer is dependent on what and where one is in the journey

I was listening to a podcast on the early migration into Europe by the PIE folks, the first to get a regular supply of red meat. One of the ways they can tell the difference between their grave sites and the grave sites of the original inhabitants, who did not get as much red meat, is the size of the person in it. The PIE folks tended to be much larger in stature in comparison to those who were more plant based in diet.

Having learned acupuncture and acupressure from an old martial arts master-- and having studied reflexology, hypnotherapy, NLP, EFt, etc.. I have learned ONE thing most people either don't know- or they forget-- when your body begins healing ANYTHINg-- for a short time, it will actually feel WORSE before it feels BETTER. It'ls like pulling out a knife-- if the knife is in you- it hurts like hell-- and when yanked-- DANG talk abuot hurting... then it will slowly begin to feel better.. or hurt less. Right now, I'm going through waking up with back pain that makes me SCREAM.. and knees been giving out on me lately. You know my background now- and that I was mashed between two trucks in 99, and I've also been shot , cut, and more--- so believe me I KNOW pain-- having hurt so much over the last 23 years that I often scream out- and can't hold it. I'm HEALING. I woke up this week-- Mon I thinkg- and my toes were STRAIGHT-- they haven't been straight in YEARS.. I had what is known as "hammer toes"where the toes curl under all the time. The asian medicine recognizes that is caused by LIVER issues.. and I've been told by other docs the same thing.. MINE are straight suddenly- and I went through a week of toes and feet CRAMPING and couldn't sleep.. but it was my body HEALING!!!. I also found out one other thing new-- it has been recently PROVEN scientificially- that the SMALLEST part of everything is NOT the atom or molecules- not even electron, protons and neutrons-- but what is called "Quantum Matter" which looks like a 'mist". THe suPER good part of it though-- it RESPONDS TO THOUGHT. You can actually think and effect this matter--- THAT IS HUGE-- everything- proven also-- is made of energy- LIGHT basically at various concentrations. WE can THINK and actually "RE-ORGANIZE THAT MATTER--- healing at its BASE!!!! To do it-- lay hand on the effected area- and "see" it as HEALED AND PERFECT... but at the same time- FEEL it that way emotionally-- the brain produces an electromagnetic field- but the heart produces one 5000 times more powerful-- so "feeling" is the SECRET. FEEL THE JOY of that effected part being healed as it's visualized... and that WILL effect that "quantum matter" and healing results. check it out in vids by GREG BRADEN....

Thank you for sharing all of this David! I have heard of healing energy power before. Right now I'm doing carnivore until I get to my target weight. Once I reach that goal, then I might adopt more of an ancestral diet. I would mainly fat and protein all year. But during spring and summer I would include fruits and vegetables. I would only eat within season. During fall and winter, I might with throw in some root vegetables like carrots and potatoes. I would only do that if I find I can eat fruits and vegetables without any serious reactions.

I cant get past the title of this video. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2008 while in the hospital with a 572 blood sugar. I struggled with meds and the prescribed low fat so called balanced diet until starting keto 6 months ago . I went from an a1c of over 9 to 7.5 . Still not healthy. I started strict Carnivore animal based and water 9 weeks ago. Keto did get me off Metformin (max dose 2000 milligrams ) but was still on 52 units of insulin a day and could not get under an a1c of 7.5 Right away I started getting lower blood sugars. My doctor told me to reduce insulin if my sugars came down. I did. After 8 weeks I lost 25 pounds and am down to 12 units of long acting insulin a day., my last a1c was 6.8 three days ago. All of my labs improved. My doctor says that had I started this 90 days ago I very well could have tested under 6 .0 . A1c is a test of glycated cells and these cells can live up to 4 months. My average sugar today is 127 however my fasting insulin has never been tested. WE will be looking at that in 3 months. I test 6 to 8 times a day now as I am doing this diet.

Now I try to keep carnivore flexible , I eat Beef and go from fatty to lean and vice versa depending on stool softness , loose ? less fat. DRY more fat. I eat Beef, fish, chicken, pork, eggs,butter, heavy cream and some cheeses. I eat beef or chicken liver twice weekly cooked with bacon / bacon fat. I do drink a small amount of coffee with heavy cream. My biggest gains were stopping the intake of sugar, Bread and potatoes. My goal forward is an A1c of 5.2 with no insulin added. I am 65 years old 5 feet 10 with a current weight of 210 which is down from 235. I am looking for 180 pounds. So I will never go back from animal based food as my base line. I will never ever eat vegetable /seed oils or sugar again. I am also never going to eat foods high in oxalates . Once healed I will carefully start to reintroduce some foods like Green beans, strawberries, squash, and small amounts of potato peeled and cooked under 250 degrees. I will continue to watch my fasting insulin and fasting blood sugar.
