There is respect among friends and strangers of the parking lot. They come from a variety of backgrounds to play traditional bluegrass and gospel music for their own pleasure and for the enjoyment of “grinners” who often bring their chairs or sit in their cars and listen. On this particular evening there was a prediction of rain, which showed up eventually, and the listeners stayed home. If you watch the video, however, you’ll enjoy the fidelity and spirit of some fine grassroots music.
As you watch, keep in mind this is an OPEN JAM. It is not a rehearsed performance. Each picker, in turn, chooses a tune, and he or she sings or plays it accompanied by all the other pickers. Everyone gets a chance no matter the skill level. The Jam meets every Friday evening at 6:30 in the parking lot behind the Pizza Hut at 15840 West Colonial Dr., Ocoee, Florida 34761.
