Tee Rich ha mate that’s what they all say ignore them the only time you remove that manifold is to get to the ccv that’s it or disas you can unbolt the manifold and lift it up a bit to get to the oil filter bolt

tips for a stripped bolt ?

No I didn’t have to bleed the coolant the car bleeds itself and you lose very minimal coolant when doing this and you do not have to drain the oil just do this when engine is cold

​@BMW Doctor I would recommend drain the coolant as some coolant I belive leaked in to the oil and it got contaminated

not really mate as its still gonna hold oil in the filter anyway and in the oil cooler so regardless its gonna give out best thing is do this when engine is cold and not got up to temp and running all over the engine make sure its cold so its ready to go and just do it

Did you get any answer on this? To my knowledge the N52 engine and its parts are made from aluminum and magnesium, thus bolts are aluminum instead of steel to prevent corrosion. From what I read on internet, aluminum bolts should not be reused after removal and be replaced with new ones, but I have no information regarding these specific ones.

i stripped the bottom bolt but luckily i got it out swapped to 10 mm instead of etorx. saved my self some trouble

@@b.skis_3054 if you stripped the last filter housing bolt with the spanner you can remove the flange for the coolant hose that’s in the way (the ”mickey mouse flange”). then you have enough room to hammer on a t10 socket and get it out. just beware that this will introduce air into the cooling system and you will need to re-bleed it correctly, if not you risk the engine and water pump. i would strongly suggest doing a complete coolant change altogether to be sure

That’s very good to know now you have the original part you will have no leaks for along time
