OmidSonSSJ4 Yes it scared me full on!!! I was expecting a big scratch on the bonnet, but it had flown straight over. 🤪

@@Marksreviewsandtutorials I'm glad it didn't hit anything either, that would have been a different conversation. But I'm having the same issue with the glass button. And the boot as well, finally got round to cutting open the wiring loom and found 4-5 cables either sheered or cut off! Got the boot sensor to stop thinking the boot was open all the time. But the glass part still does not respond. I'm worried I will have to do the same to find the issue 🙈.

I've been struggling with radio signal for yonks...then the fobs stopped working...and the micro switch and I finally spotted multiple damaged wires in the driver's boot hinge. I decided to fix them myself, this video was very helpful, thanks for uploading - AND I knew to lift the tail gate before undoing the bolts...GOLD!

@@olisutton1368 Hi, with the boot raised, the hinge on the right has a loom of wires going through it, mine were clearly damaged/broken, presumably from years of the boot going up and down. I had to open the spoiler to access the diversity antenna etc, disconnect the damaged loom so it can be pulled back to the speaker hole(ceiling near boot) closest to the damage. I was able to repair and solder relatively easily with them hanging out of the speaker hole. It wasn't as hard as you might fear. It took me roughly 3 hours start to finish, better than the £250 I was quoted by a local mechanic.

Thanks for the vid, it solved my glass door failing to open, two wires broken! the little one on the RHS and the power one on the other side....took a while to find. I'm sure I could design something better than this or at least used silicon multi strand wire which would withstand the flexing for longer.Hours of fun, thanks BMW ;-)

Hey, have issue with central lockign and heated rear window. Do you remember by chance wht helped you solve those issues?

I just followed this video and it helped me fix it, I got some electrical connectors and reconnected the broken wires with it, I used wire shrink wrap and not had any problems since. Just be careful re aligning the rear window as mine is a few mm out and have to slam to shut it properly

So if I had a lock/unlock issue the wires for the diversity antenna run on the right side (looking from rear) through the tailgate wiring channel.

Thanks, man. I've got an E91 with a fault somewhere in the switch(es) that sense when the hatch and glass are closed. Everything opens/closes correctly, but the courtesy lights stay lit and I get the hatch open warnings. But only when I use the glass. Your vid gives me confidence I can find the issue.

This is the best video!! I have same car, and recently the heated rear window stopped working. Do you know if that runs down the left or right loom as you look at it? Too costly for BMW to do it now!

FiscalWoofer I sold this car more than a year ago. So my best advice is to look through the videos in the playlist at the end of the video hopefully you will find what you need. MRT

Mark's reviews and tutorials I think it looks to be far left wires are window heating, water hose and antenna. This is interesting as water hose and antenna have been intermittent - may have found the problem! Thanks again.

So do you know which side does what? there's wires coming from the inner two looms one on the left side one on the right side. my remote control doesn't work but looking at your pictures I can't figure out which loom has the broken wire that is keeping the remote from working, I'd rather avoid taking them both apart if you happen to know which one is the correct one. Do you know which loom is wired to the remote control receiver? Thanks,

Hi Ive had exactly the same fault on my 2008/58 plate bmw 320d e91 (uk version). 1 day tailgte kept popping open and wouldnt close been going on for ages... I tried new microswitch and changed my self..., no good! Changed the boot latch mechanism at a cost of £90 from bmw... no good! Finally took the car to a german car specialist/auto electricians and they found the fault within half an hour. Wiring harness! They fitted a full new wiring harness for the tailgate and labour/parts £200 all done. Also in same area got a fault with central locking and they said needs a new diversity antenna as had water ingress (fault with the spoiler) bmw's :(((( hope this helps.

⚠️A bit of advice re using better tape. The original fabric tape is good but we use self amalgamating tape which flexes far better and has better adhesive properties.👍👍We are not a fan of ordinary insulating tape in automotive applications due to the large temp changes etc.

Hey, defrost in rear window not working, bmw E61 - 2007 I checked the fuse was okay, how to check the cable ? when I click the button for defrost the light comes on but no defrosting, thanks

Hello I have a bmw e61 would the wiring for central locking be there as my remote diamond key doesn’t work on buttons only open with the key but rear window comes and all windows if I hold the key left thanks

Joey S Hi. Yes the receiver module for the key remote is under the spoiler. There is a playlist at the end of this video. Work your way through the videos there. It gives a great explanation and shows you the module and which wires run to it.

Hello so I have tried doing this and found some cut wires but not torn apart on the drivers side looks like someone already tried doing something as the diversity box was siliconed haha I have taped up the wires what where cut and put everything back together and still no central locking working would this be the diversity antenna it self also would it have to be the same numbers as mine or can I just buy and replace ? Joey S Joey. When I did the work on my car I video-ed it all and showed all the wiring so it could be watched learned here. I didn’t memorize it. Watch the videos I took a lot of time explaining it. 😃

Mark, curious if you can verify something. I have an inoperative glass button under the wiper so had to take the hatch trim apart so I could manually release the hatch glass (used long sharp pointy object in hole). Once I got the hatch glass open I used your technique of taking off the spoiler and shorting the connector pins together (at ~2:00 in this vid) but the latch wouldn't operate. Being no expert on this system I don't know what diagnosis to make at this point. Is the electric latch the problem? Is the wiring between the connector under the spoiler and the latch the problem? Is the glass release button still the problem (shorted perhaps)? Or is the car just cursed? LOL

So funny if you ask if your car is cursed as i wondered about my e61 as well. Such a recurrence of electrical stuff that came up at the worst times. Anyway our black e61 is now gone to another owner and we are driving an F25 X3 Turbo Diesel and we absolutely love it. Anyway from what you have said it does sound like a new switch is the best place to start. Good luck and prayers of deliverance are always an option. MRT

@@Marksreviewsandtutorials I narrowed down the list of suspects when I discovered the rear wiper not working either. Haven't checked anything else yet, to include the wiring looms on either side, as I figured that since the dealership already invoiced the prior owner to the tune of $2700 almost 3yrs ago for all new wiring on both sides that it wouldn't be a problem. Little did I know! Anyway, I'll be taking the rear of the headliner down again (did it to fix the sunroof drain lines) and screwing around in there for bad wiring. Also have a bit of a battery drain (2 in last 4 years according to previous owner invoices) Heard of a SenCom wiring harness fix that I'll look into, and see what else I can figure out on this 100% cursed vehicle. Horrible design, but I'm sure I can come up with a fix somehow. Thanks again for the vids!

@@isakhatl2178 For me it was the hatch release button. Wiring and motor was in good shape. FCP Euro had the best price on the switch. Let me know if you need more info on how to swap or troubleshoot.

Rob Stone Thanks! I will order one and hope that it will fix the problem. But how is this switch interfering with the rear wipers? This just sounds a bit odd to me.
