I've said this before that watching your channel helps me learn about computer scrapping and just sent my first box to board sort and after shipping costs I made 238 dollars in profits, Chris was great to deal with but I'm having a hard time in identifying CPU,S for there correct category so I did my best separated them. Thanks for helping people try to figure it out

You did the seller a favor by sorting their scrap for them. Usually if you bring a load of soup, you get paid the least common denominator. That is because the yard (I.e. you) has to spend time sorting and processing the scrap.

My uncle's a scrapper he has 55 gallon drums filled with boards and electrical scrap sitting behind his shed. It's not worth his time to take to the scrap yard so I strip all the IC's, transformers, caps, and more off the boards to use in my electrical projects. I go over there with a hot plate and leave in 2 hours with $1,000 of components that I could sell on ebay listed as a used IC. All I know is watching you go through that I saw pure gold you threw aside. Gold to me at least. I seen a board with a heat sink that probably had the right kind of mosfets I currently need for my next project.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper Год назад
Hey Michael - that's great that you're able to collect and resell those components. Trust me, nothing was just "thrown aside". I have buyers for this material. After I grade it out I decide what is getting sold to who and through which of my sales channels. What you saw in this video is just the beginning.

Would love to learn more about grading - there are not really any yard around here that deal in ewaste so I have passed on the sort. They basically called everything low grade unless it has stuff on both sides. Most Mothertboards are not 2 sided so they pay low grade 15 cents a pound. A video called ewaste for dummies might be a great one going over the top 5 or 10 things that are worth spending the time on whether you use a yard or board sort. Food for thought. Thanks for the knowledge.

Would you please tell me what material is used to print the circuit boards? I always thought it was silver but no one seems to mention scraping it!
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper Год назад
The PCB's we find in PC's, servers and peripheral devices are essentially very thin copper laminated onto a non-conductive substrate which may be hard plastic/fiber board or flexible plastic depending on the use. Some boards can have gold or tinned silver tracings. Lower grade brown and brown/green boards like we find in power boards or older TV's may or may not have the copper laminate.

How should I start getting customers for mother boards? I live in LaSalle Illinois and there’s no one buying them around me. So I’m going to start buying them. Thank You in advance for your help!
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper Месяц назад
If you're going to do this as a business the first thing you need to do is research the laws in Illinois for setting up a company and operating a scrap/recycling biz. Every state is different and I'm not familiar with IL laws. Getting clients just comes down to building a network. Visit businesses that are likely to generate escrap. Write letters - you'd be surprised how effective snail mail can still be when it is specific and directed. Get on Nextdoor, or similar app and let your community know you're in biz. Maybe even try some targeted facebook/google ads. But be careful with those - they can get expensive and if not well targeted be a waste of money. Also tell as many people as you can. I've picked up a lot of biz from people who knew someone who told someone...

@@sharkscrapper Okay! Thank You very much! Also, is flat screen TV’s worth picking up for the boards going to board sort? I know most TV’s, the boards are low grade but I didn’t know about the flat screens for sure
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper Месяц назад
The big challenge with flat screens is what to do with what remains after you remove the boards. Depending on your buyer the boards my range from low to mid-grade. Boardsort buys the gold finger strip boards as peripheral. But you're left with the plastic housing and, depending on the type of flat screen, tubes containing mercury. You also need to know what your local laws are regarding the disposal of these items. Bottom line - there's very little value and a lot of waste.

@@sharkscrapper Okay. Thank You very much. I’ve looked the regulations up. It’s the same in Illinois as Washington State, where Scrapitall is from. Manufacturing has to set up ways of disposing of electronics but I’m not finding anything about anyone else. I’m glad I asked. I seen two TV’s outside a dumpster but they’ll stay there because it’s illegal to landfill any electronics. I did see that. I appreciate your help!

Ive got probably 50 to 60 kilo of circuit boards, mostly of 80's and 90's telecomunications equiptment and computer mother boards. I cannot find any "idiots guide how to grade it" nothing makes sense, people talk jargon i know nothing about. Big sockets! Little sockets! Different components. They all talk like you are suppossed to know what they are talking about without really explaining, or without showing a close up of "a big socket!" For instance. Where is this socket? And what does it look like? I think i might just auction it all on Ebay as a job lot. I have about 30 or 40 CPU's too, but god knows the difference. People tend to say what the difference is, without actually showing you.

Quality/Angle isn't the greatest, but at 5 min mark, looked like low grade sata hd boards. At 14:30 you said peripheral low. I am new at grading, but no way that's low peripheral. I'd say high. I'm very inexperienced, so I would invite someone to tell me I am wrong and why. Only judging based off of 18 boards audited on forums, and viewing a dozen or so other threads. Your looking at $2.40 vs $0.75 per pound so it's important to not be too cautious IMO.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper Год назад
A good observation. That board is borderline high/low because it has so much junk on it. My nature is to lean towards the conservative side of grading or error in favor of BOARDSORT. I've never had them downgrade any of my loads/boards. You'd likely be fine putting that board in a box with a bunch of peripheral high-grade boards.
