Boebert is the kind of person where, after every rant, I am amazed no one blinks a few times and then asks her if she's feeling ok or not and if they should call 911. She seriously seems like she's stroking out or on drugs or something.

When I was a kid (late '70s), many people complained that trying to go to a renewable energy grid would take too long, probably decades. If we had done it then, we wouldn't be in this mess now. Ah, well, live and not learn.

Well, Lauren Boebert of Lauren Boebert, when hurricane Laura temporarily shut down Texas refineries in 2020, gas prices went up as high as $5.50 a gallon in Fort Worth as stations started gouging consumers, even though there was still plenty of gas in the retail pipeline. So by your logic, it was Trump's fault.

Forty years ago, Jimmy Carter advised us to be frugal, to be less acquisitive and to use less fossil fuel. Ronald Reagan told us that Americans were entitled to whatever they wanted without sacrifices because they were so damn exceptional, not able to differentiate the idea of the USA from the reality. Every president since Carter and Mondale got swamped by Reagan has been afraid to deviate from the Reagan line. Want to be exceptional? You've got to prove it every day, not declare that you are every day. In fact, if you're exceptional, everyone will know without you saying a word. Americans chose to be grasshoppers addicted to their individual wants instead of ants working together for their collective security. It is not just the USA. The whole world is dependent on leaders in countries that happen to be sitting on a bunch of dead algae and plankton that have been crushed under millions of tons of rock for the last 150 million years, while other countries don't. Those who seek personal power have figured this out. If you can control the oil, you can brutally kill a journalist and suffer nothing more than a verbal slap on the wrist. You can annex bits of Ukraine and get away with a similar slap on the wrist unless you try to swallow up the whole country. Just two examples. Carter was right and Reagan (who doesn't have to worry about climate change or wars or dead journalists any more -- how convenient) was living in his own fantasy world, which he convinced most Americans was reality because it flattered them. Cruder than Reagan, and, unlike Reagan, satisfied to be deified only by a certain group of Americans, Trump uses the same tactics as Reagan, and new generations of Americans are still falling for it.

Boebart thinks Canada needs to be liberated. In the same lines as ukraine. Literally. Let that sit for a second. She thinks Canadians have “lost their freedoms” and needs to be liberated. Her legit words. She is nuts.

Weirdly, I figured out in the 70s when my parents delegated my newly licensed self to go sit in a gas line during rationing that maybe depending on foreign oil was not a great idea.

Here in Colorado, when we refer to Lauren Boebert, we refer to her as the "Rural Colorado Congresswomen". Sometimes we had "crazy" in front of that.

I completely agree with Seth's assessment of America's energy policy. That's why I have a Nissan Leaf. It's ten years old, I've put 125,000 km on it. It costs 1/7 as much to power as our PT Cruiser cost to fuel (when gas was $3.11/gal,) and in all that time and distance, I've put on two sets of tires and a set of wiper blades. Registration costs $7 because there's no emissions inspection, and I have never had oil to change. I expect to buy my first battery in it later this year, and triple the range. You can get one used for under $10K. Though I have to say, if you don't have a garage to park it in or next to, charging could be a nuisance.

Someone needs to explain to Bobert we have a capitalist economy. Where 90% of US oil land in private hands and oil companies are letting 9000 drilling rights sit idle. We only get 3% of our oil from Russia. Oil companies are making up for lost profits during the pandemic, there's no way the ban on Russian oil should be hitting the American market yet.

Why can't we do both? Use our own Clean oil...way cleaner then anywhere else. While improving our clean energy tech. Btw...where do batteries come?

I was happy republicans were on board with banning russian gas imports, but part of me was worried they just supported it so gas prices would go higher, which they could in turn blame on joe biden... I think that may have been the case.

From our perspective, gas prices in america are reaching normal levels for the first time. 1 gallon would be roughly 8€ for us right now. Last time we had 4€ for a gallon was back in the early 2000s.
