well, you see SOME of them have it. But I dunno what they were trying to do with Seth....or the actor....half the time he doesnt even seem human. He just observes....he wanted the money so hard (so we're told), but doesnt even nibble or sip what it affords him. He's a mute half the time.
@@no1guy825 he never wanted to flash - he actually never uogrades his car thought out the movie. Stays in the same house were the casino was. He maybe fixes his wardrobe - but that’s really it.
Huge difference. “Drug dealer” is a person whom provides a product. The dealer and customer both get what they want. These stock brokers, are just liars and thieves. Literally robbing working class people.
@@MRIDDLE72 The drug dealer makes money and the crack user becomes an addict thereby destroying their life, adding to crime - thus affecting the community - and spending every dollar they can get on more crack. If crooked stock brokers were societies only problem....it would be paradise by comparison. Wouldn't you say?!
@@MRIDDLE72 it was just an expression not supposed to be entirely saying that drug dealers are the same as these pump and dump stock brokers. though they have some in common, drug dealers sell drugs that ruin people's lives like these brokers do. The addicts are hooked on the drugs like how the brokers' clients are hooked to making money and the hope that they can be rich.
Boiler Room was extremely accurate in its portrayal of the 'Robert Brennan, First Jersey' chop shop firms of that era. Group interviews, no women brokers, no selling to women, selling periods, instead of trading normally, after which they would celebrate, inexperienced brokers only, charging for the licensing, dead company stocks, pitching only to unsophisticated prospects, no sell tickets, a core group who knew what was going on and shifting that core from one firm to another to evade the regulators. I figured it out because that core was all listed as the board on the prospectuses, so it was obvious we were lying about being principals in the stocks we were selling, and got out right before the SEC shut that firm down. A good way to get licensed but you couldn't stay for very long if you planned on staying in the industry... or had any morals.
I like the contrasting use of buses in this scene and the closing scene of the film. Here we see the JT Marlin crew triumphantly riding their chartered party buses into the city for a night of debauchery. At the end, the FBI rolls a couple of buses into the parking lot with them presumably to haul the JT Marlin guys out in handcuffs and take them to jail in.
@@Santos-dp6yb Well if it's the client lisat itself, not account summary, it would fit on a floppy. Account summary might need to be one 5.5 inch floppy per client.
damn. this is the best movie beginning ive ever seen. the charatacter introducing themselves in an awesome way and the music giving this hopelessly greedy vibe, it really does sound like nothing aside from money is even worth effort, perfectly encapsulking what to expect from the movie. This is execptional
This movie never got the honors it wAs due. Hollywood stole the act with Wolf of wall street because Scorsese was directing it. This was just as good if not better.
Patrick Bateman wannabe's more like it... Bateman's way cooler than any of these clowns. After all, he's the Vice President of his company! It took alot of hard work and a letter of recommendation from his father
Well seeing as Sterling Foster was charged by the SEC for using boiler room sales techniques and the title of this movie is boiler room... who do you think is right?
wonderfred Belfort’s Stratton Oakmont was also a boiler room, specifically a boiler room in Long Island, where this movie takes place. Ben Affleck’s character, Jim Young, was based on Danny Porush, who was played by Jonah Hill in Wolf.
One of my top ten favorite movies from the opening scene the messages from the movie..stands true till this day..If your trying to get your hustle on and need some motivation...This is the movie to watch...
Even at the height of his success, Seth Davis stood out from the other guys. He was never really one of them (i.e. a party animal, drug user or a skirt chaser). Maybe with the exception of Adam, Chris and occasionally Greg, he wasn't really connected to the rest of his co-workers.
@@brandondaniels9471 Of course, I was half-joking. But there are very similar scenes. but that's the way it goes, and it could just be because of the very similar cultures
Yeah it's a lie. He wants all these idiots to think others think their company's legit ... And they sooooo don't. (which comes out, later in the movie)
No, I'm guessing this is at the midpoint during the movie, sometime after the 'Always Be Closing' Ben Affleck speech, as Seith is still wearing the same black outfit in that scene as this ...
This is the opening scene of the movie that is called back to later in the middle of the film. Among other things, this scene is telling us that the firm is shady and under scrutiny from regulators. The FBI raid at the end is more likely to result in convictions because Seth has turned informant.
This is a great edit. There's another where he tells them to buy a new car and a new house because a month from now we'll all be millionaires. (Or you'll working for me so you don't lose that new stuff you're addicted too now lol)
As a person from another country, this movie's depiction of American aggressive profiteering is frightening. Like America has lost its soul in pursuit of wealth.
ok, I am looking for the funky song on "Opening Sequence" track :) you can hear the first part here: www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1256531&style=music&fulldesc=T
I love this opening. The coaches with the amped up brokers going mental, then storming into that fancy hotel and causing havoc. It grabs the viewers attention.
Black Jack There's lots of things that are lucrative and lower risk than organized crime, but that doesn't meant the mob will have their hand in it. The mob is a shadow of what it once was and can't restrain Wall Street in any way, Wall Street is full of people that can't be bribed because they have more money than you, and people that can't be killed because they have more power than you, the mob won't be able to to really get a foothold in finance.
Black Jack You said the mob is more involved in financial crimes. "The mob" refers to the organized crime syndicates, so yes you are talking about organized crime.
@Kija Kenpachi Uhh, no. When you're talking about the finance industry and Wall Street, it's almost always certainly about money. Wall Street never was involved in "cement brick" tactics. They destroyed peoples lives yes, but in a much more grand, sophisticated fashion. Wall Street is less likely to shoot or maim you and more likely to just ruin your financial situation, then have you poor and disowned of everything you had, or maybe they'll use their money to make sure you get convicted of something. The mob and Wall Street are two very different organizations. Just because they both wear suits, and do the occasional crime here and there doesn't mean they are one in the same.
Mob probably stayed out of this racquet for the most part because it wasn't as low profile as other endeavours. One thing they didn't go for was making waves. This was mentioned in Casino.
He was a regular schmuck trying to make the quick buck while also trying to get the approval from his hard ass, influential judge for a father. Him being the regular guy is the whole point of the movie. It wouldn't be as good or impactful had he been the stereotypical stock-jock.
@@colinclayton8042 exactly - he’s the audience - but unlike the wolf of Wall Street - we are not in the party trip - that’s not Seth’s journey - he wanted to do something important and seek the approval from his farther - but in the end he did a lot of wrong.
