Hello friends! Today, I am covering the six (non-romance) books that I'm planning on reading in the month of February! I've dialed down my tbr a little bit due to the fact I'm working on my dissertation, but I definitely wanted to ensure I'm still reading for pleasure!
Also, we recently reached 50k on this channel recently and I literally cannot even begin to convey how happy I am about that. I just can't believe we have such an amazing community of people here and I just can't wait to see what the future holds for us!
note: in the video i refer to Raven Leilani as a British author. this is incorrect, as she's an American author - it's my mistake, i should've double confirmed before filming!

Grown is definitely the most tense I've ever been while reading. I finished it in one sitting, because I just couldn't feel at peace until the story had ended. It's definitely a very well written book.

I thought it was really chaotic and I think it could've been done a lot better. I also read it in one sitting, it definitely sucks you in. But not sure the writing was actually that great in hindsight 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't read Grown yet, but I am hoping to some time this year. My February TBR is Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark (I finished it on Saturday, definitely check this book it), Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson, and The Lesson by Cadwell Turnbull. I don’t do TBR’s I loved the idea of them, I’m a contrary fairy though and as soon as I give myself a list I fight against it. Ha. Spooky, I spent last week reading only yellow books. Girl, Woman, Other is amazing, amazing, amazing. I have Grown on my TBR so I’m hoping to join in. I thought Allegedly was brilliant. I’ve not heard of Adam Rutherford, I shall check him, the podcast and the book out.

I think a nonfiction reading vlog would be really interesting, even if it takes place on a longer time frame than most of your reading vlogs.

I was just talking with someone recently about how books are one of the only mediums (in the U.S. anyways) which aren’t monitored for content. So a 10 year old can go and buy whatever book they want regardless of reading level, content etc. but that same 10 year old cannot go see a PG13 movie without an adult or buy an explicit movie or music at a store. I’m not a parent but I can imagine that having content warnings is very helpful to parents and teachers so you aren’t blindly handing something too mature to a child or forced to pre-read everything.

good luck on your dissertation joel i'm sure you'll absolutely smash it 🎉 i always want rainbow shelves but then my mind is like... but how will you find authors 😅 girl, woman, other was really good and written so well but i found it quite slow in places, but at the same time it was necessary imo!! i've heard so many good things about luster recently, i wanna pick it up soon! ✨ white tears brown scars sounds really interesting i definitely want to pick it up to educate myself more!!
