I ran a 996 turbo for 6 years.....and the only real worry was “what if the engine goes pop”....yeah I know it’s the mezger, and it’s “bullet proof”.....but every now and again a massive blue cloud on start up would sow that seed of doubt in my mind.....yeah apparently they all do that.....but....it’s the one thing on the car I couldn’t have afforded to get fixed if it did go. If it had a turbo k24 I could have happily ran it at 500bhp, knowing if it did go pop I could replace it for a 1000 dollars and been back on the road within a week. This conversion just makes so much sense to me.....and even more on a non mezger model.....especially as blown engine examples are available....and a k swap probably comes in at far less than a quality rebuild....but once done can be used daily without fear of a massive bill popping up one day.
I think you need to stop apologizing for your car man! It's an AWESOME ride and unique swap! I'm definitely considering going this same route just so I can get into an affordable 911 that's not a 996! I think you should embrace the hate from the "purists" as you stomp them in a race! Would be cool to watch you beat on a 997 around the track next year!
Thanks for comparing the weight. So many people don't factor this into performance numbers, but power-to-weight is so important. Ironic you're talking about this modded N/A 911. I'm doing similar mods to my Cayman this week and yes, it is $$$$, but cheaper than a custom turbo with all the supporting mods and cheaper than a GT4 😉. While a turbo is appealing, an uncorked N/A flat 6 sounds better IMO.
I fully plan to do a k24 in my 997 C4 if the engine ever goes. $20k+ to fix the original, or have a lighter, more powerful, and more reliable engine? It’s a no brainer to me. I don’t think the K sounds quite as good, but it doesn’t sound bad at all. Great work!
I have an 06 Boxster S and I noted that in your previous video while in Florida you mentioned you were doing a Cayman. I'll be interested to see how that goes for fitment, particularly height wise as you mentioned.
Yes please! I have a 99 Boxster and I'm really curious to know if the engine fits. Even better would be to swap the Honda transmission like they are doing in the MR2s. I can afford a Honda box that will hold 600 HP, not sure if I can say the same about the Porsche transaxle.
I have an 08 997.1 and found that there's a bolt on turbo kit by VF Engineering installed for $13k out the door giving it 150hp extra, I'd choose that route so I cam keep the original motor if I ever decide to sell
Hey, Nick loved this car the moment I discovered it. Was this featured on The Smoking Tire? I feel like that’s where I first saw it but I can’t find the video now..
Hey Nick. I'm thinking of buying a k24 or k20 si (which do you recommend?) to boost. I am aiming for the same whp and tq that you are getting. Would you be able to tune my car remotely? I live in Calgary, Alberta. So it would be quite a long drive.
K24 is slightly taller, but also 150 ish lbs lighter. So probably no significant change to handling. Less weight over the rear wheels may make the car drive more like a mid engine than rear engine feel
Awesome video comparison! Very interesting that the Turbo K is quite similar in weight distribution. The torque deficit kinda sucks, 50ft/lbs that low would be missed but 100+ whp in the upper end helps make up for it lol. And who TF doesn’t k ow the difference between crank and wheel hp! gtfo! Lol
Being a vag lover, I'd swop your choice with a vr6 and a HPA turbo kit. Keeping it in the family and gaining the Wookie sound. The 5 cylinder RS3 motor would also work. Saying that, you have created a masterpiece, thanks for sharing!
Well yes 10k to get 10hp over stock does sound stupid, but not if the cost of another 3.8 was more than 10k. The K24 will be cheaper to gain HP than the stock engine. Porsche mods are usually all high dollar items. At the end the K made over 100hp over stock
@@efiniGTX there is zero argument from me about this, lol. I love the swap. To me it's the same as putting an LS into an old Jag., get the style, AND the power and reliability.
This is so disrespectfull , putting honda engine in porsche , i dont know maan so many porsche enthusiasts dreaming to own a 911 , and u doing this stupid things , thats why justin bieber and other artists banned from famous brands because doing some crazy things on cars which created history of racing ! and definetely u not deserving a porsche too doing this thing , if u want get some money first and grab a 997 turbo s and thats the end of your honda swapping things in porsche 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Lol honda has a racing pedigree as well.. and he's making way more power and lighter.. so it's a win.. most of those Porsche owners don't know how to do a oil change much less do what he did
Disrespectfull? Are you serious? It's a 997, not a Ferrari F40....LoL Great job Nick, it's funny how those purists get pissed off when I say I want to LS swap my Cayman.
@@MrAnticaArte Yea theyre weirdos. Even if his argument made sense its a Carrera S anyways theres tons of them 😂. Its not rare like a GT2 or GT3 so who cares lol
