Ive had the RE-20 for 10 years now and love it. Just bought the RE-202 from Sweetwater should arrive in a day or two. Thanks for the video comparing the two! What sold me on an upgrade is the wow and flutter which is basically a chorus on the repeats which I love. :)
I think the COSM model was directly taken, because RE-20 has phase / modulation or a decay that gets darker. RE-202 does sound good but has a bright sheen, not like tape getting dusty in a analog way. This clarity might translate to definition to some, but RE-20 being dark and damp in decay is the winner for me.
I had this video on in the background while working and every time there was an interesting enough sound that made me break concentration, it was the RE-20 each time. Not to say the RE-202 isn’t great sounding, I have one on pre-order. But the RE-20 just sounds so awesome! Those reverb sounds were amazing.
The 202 sounds great… lots of flexibility… but I have a 20 on my board and it’s not getting replaced. I had a 201 in the 80’s, and bought a 20 a few years back, sold it, immediately regretted it and bought another, which has never left my board since.
Hey have had re20 since it’s release. But it now makes a horrible swooshing/pulsing noise, even when off. Seems related to the red flashing at the center. Have tried various power supplies etc but seems built into the pedal at this point. Have used in different locations and same thing. Any thoughts? Would prob buy used re20 again but not if this is result
i think after hearing thisw ill stick with my re 20..has a darker more tape vibe to it..plus i create mad soundscapes with my re 20 like a whole army of guitars off one track.maybe get the 202 in future when prices drop
The repeats on the re-20 get slightly dirty and have almost a phasing as the die out. The 202 sounds good but doesn’t fall off the same. I’d be happy with either though.
RE-20 sounds more saturated and darker in a good way. Also the RE-20 darkens as it repeats with the intensity up like my real tape echo the RE-150. I have the RE-202 as well and it is thinning out as it repeats getting higher in its tone which is not natural. Also saturation kicks in really hard after 12 oc so really hard to get the same saturated sound in the RE-20. I am back to my trusty RE-20. It's a bummer as I really wanted MIDI sync. [shrug]
Settings for the 202 is not on the ‘aged’ for tape. I believe from the demos I’ve heard for the 202 they are fantastic. I just bought the 202 and will be unpacking it this 30th Oct.
@@shelbysmoakbleeder9988 1 patch cables , 2 probably powering, 3 I heard that issue million times , so no wonder Roland trying COMPLETELY recreate all nuggets also
I absolutely hate the form factor of the RE-202, the twin pedal format is elegant and fits in with Boss compact pedals. So glad I got another RE-20 (my original was stolen), I don't want the 202 on my pedal board ruining the visual aesthetic. Same with the Delay Machine, cool concept and great sounds, but I hate how it looks.
Had the 're 20 sold it, had the el cap sold it ,was sorry immediately 😐so went for the volante which is an el cap on serious steroids it's never leaving the board cheers.
