To sing the three part harmony and play dual leads on 10 almost perfectly live is a feat most other bands of their caliber could never pull off. One of the best rock and roll bands ever. They had to play 100% every show, everytime to pull those songs off. Those who gave a thumbs down, their is something terribly wrong with you.
Anyone who selects a thumbs down has lousy taste in music, I play guitar and know phenomenal music when I hear it, he was awesome in his Beatles cover band called Beatle juice, featuring Brad delp, they still play but they have not found a singer even close to Brad's talent
I would never give these guys a thumb’s down, but they did not play every show perfectly and Brad had many issues with singing some of the songs at various periods in his career. There are videos right here on RU-vid where both Brad and Tom are off including this one, see More Than A Feeling. The point is that they are human and the recordings were feats of engineering. Having said that, these guys and their songs are amazingly fun and beautiful.
@@wordragon Brad was doing shows 5 and 6 nights a week... for months and monts on end..plus doing the interviews...never saving his voice...they started in August of 1978... this show was after their Japanese Cherry Blossom tour...many many months into the tour. I'd like to ask anyone else to try that.. see how many of notes they could hit those notes perfectly.. doing what he did... but thanks for rembering him !
Really strange that such rare & fabulous live footage of this band at their peak only has 12,000 views ... their debut album sold about 26 million copies ? .... a lot of people missing out on some remarkable film of these fine musicians & songwriters ...
I remember seeing these guys live in 78. I was 18. A lifetime ago. Still here in 2020. I still play drums and guitars to this day. Keeps me young at heart even though im getting up in age. A toast to you who have made this far. And a toast to you who have left this ever crumbling world.
I’m envious! In my 30s, I didn’t even exist when the first 2 albums were cut. I learned guitar mainly because of the Barry/Tom harmonizing on top of triple vocal harmonies. That sound is instant heaven to my ears, and It’s been that way since I first heard More Than A Feeling when I was 6!
Much of the "crumbling" is 1000% scripted horse manure. The ruling clan are maniacal deceivers; some of their mottoes are "Order (as in NWO) Out of Chaos" and "By Deception We Make War." Take the PLAN-demic for example, the illnesses were absolutely real of course, but were not naturally occurring in any way, shape, or form. The illnesses were/are chemical or biological attacks (IMO some type of toxic inhalant) but other than that, it was a MASSIVE, round-the-clock propaganda exercise. They also refer to NWO as Tikkun Olam, or Brave New World.
Listen to this man SING LIVE!! He's just PERFECT..dznt miss a note or a beatI!! He can do no wrong!!! O.M.G....he literally gets me up on my feet! I can't sit down..brings a tear to my eye. That voice is eternal. Rest your sweet heart, Brad. You'll never feel lonely again🙏🏻😪
Amen, Brad delps vocals will definitely go on in history one of the best vocalist, his voice will be missed, without him after decades the band will never be quite the same. , I guess you could say close but no cigar.
And if I could send a message to Tom schools, it would be nice if you come back to your hometown Toledo and Ottawa hills., our replace my rockman XPR, .. and headphone XP 100, you grew up on like two blocks from me., finally got a chance to see you back in your hometown in Toledo, waited in line, gave me gold tickets front row center, unfortunately you canceled it after I waited a decade
I swear Brad Delp made it look and sound so easy. He was very talented with an incredible range!. TS was so lucky to find him. He made the songs special! And Sib was an incredible drummer. And Barry was a great guitarist and Fran was a good bass player! In other words, Boston was a great group! RIP Brad and Sib
My life changed quite radically in July of 1977. Brad Delp and band Boston were part of my metamorphosis. Bought that cassette, stuffed it in the player on my MGB and cranked it up. Unreal! More Than A Feeling still ringing in my 75 year old ears forty five years later. Call it Mid-life Crisis, Dropping out, whatever...it was...is part of my life. Rest in Peace, Bradley. njf
Sept. 08 1978 packed like a sardine in the front rows center stage. Live they sounded incredible, just like the album. Blew us away. Magic is the only word that comes close to describing those days. Nothing these days comes even close to any of this stuff.
Saw them at Chicago Stadium twice, 77 or 78 and 79 or 80. 1st time they blew the roof off. One of THEE best concerts I've ever seen from 18th row main floor. 2nd was great but further away. 1st time was played just like the album. Brad was fantastic. Everybody was fantastic. Boston blew the doors off. Wish Brad was still here.
I would have to say this is pretty much the quintessential live Boston recording. Brad's voice is in fantastic shape and the band just has that sound and feel. When you listen to The groove that sib lays down and Barry nailing those guitar leads in don't look back. Fran is killing it on the bass and the harmonies are fantastic. Would love to hear the rest of this show
The harmonizing has never been as good as it was with this lineup, even with Brad singing after 79 80 with the other players they got and to this day in my opinion the harmonizing just wasn't right and didn't sound as sweet as the original
Brad Delp. You will always be a part of my life. Especially because after you,Lou Gramm,Steve Perry, and Steve Walsh, I can't listen to the garbage produced now.
❌❌🤨🤨😷😷❌❌ WTF IS WRONG WITH OLD FOLK??? Have you not heard the beautiful sound created with autotune? Do you not get the whole hip hop rap movement? You are stuck in the old days..... And... THAT IS GREAT!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Classic Rock Lives on in perpetuity. These guys had true TALENT! ❤️🇺🇸
This song is dedicated to everyone who lost a loved one. God bless. "I'm calling out your name tonight" by Richie Levoi ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JSbGGiSe3S8.html
I agree, male singers had male voices in those days (with a few exceptions lol). But now most of the male singers sound the same, and sound a bit feeble as well.
Saw them in '77' and I was wondering if the could sound as good as the studio. They didn't disappoint. Especially Brad Delp. Just insane range and power.
62 year musician here. Played for a living in the 70's and 80's. My take, Brad delp, Steve Walsh, geddy Lee, Sammy hagar, Lou Gramm and Freddy mercury! The vocalists of choice. Amen and rock on...
Nothing like those days. 2 words. (dream) (magic) because looking back that is how it feels....like a magic dream. Yeah, playing on the road, all over, like nothing. Place to place. Still have one guitar cable from '78 it still works and I still use it! I saw everyone on your list except Freddy. Rock on!
There’s hardly any live footage of Boston the original band for some unknown reason. So this footage is precious and rare. They never released a live DVD or CD. The only complete show is a bootleg filmed at Giants stadium which is not releasable. So thanks to whoever uploaded this. The great Boston with the original lineup! RIP Brad and Sib
Every live show of Boston with Brad singing is one of a kind and cannot be replaced. So actually no Boston except the old stuff. Rest In Peace and thank you for making you still lives in our heart forever with your songs and singing and happy memories.
I saw Boston at Anaheim Stadium in Ca sept 23 1978. A producer/engineer, Tom Scholz and the entire band sounded great! However,. Brad Delp RIP is the magic here. He has always oozed so much charisma! This performance is going into my (concert archive vault). Thank you for posting/sharing.😌
I had the honor to see Boston three times. First opening for Black Sabbath, next as headliner, third time at the Texxas Jam. No words describe what a class act they were, nor how good they really were in concert. I’d sure love to see and hear some remastered concert footage on Blu-ray.
What a poor, wasteful, SAD story about Brad, I hope he found the peace he was looking for. I saw this tour and remember, the rock man wasn’t even commercially available (how do I know? I ordered one and anxiously awaited its arrival at my local music store)...It still works today and it freaking ROCKS! Thanks Tom! In nearly every band there are varying levels of ability. This band didnt have any- they were all GREAT! All before vocal harmonizers and pitch correction were available. Mics, pedals, keys, drums, amps and PA. I hear a TON of players today, who in the never ending pursuit of tone, dont sound as good as this recording. Schultz is on FIRE!!!
That’s my senior year yessssssss!!! Thanks! Life was so easy ;) so fun so cool and no one needed to know where you were. I was so happy my sons took my CD’s when they were in high school. “Mom. I was born in the wrong generation. “. It’ll be ok :) must share
@@christinemarie5865 That's cool! I'm 24 and I love Boston. And a lot of other 70s rock bands. It's by far my favourite era of music. I was born in the wrong era too! 😔
Graduated in 1979 and this was the band we listened to so much i wore out at least a dozen 8 track tapes and me and my buddies saw then 5 times live back in the day.......tickets were only $8 - $12 i still have the ticket stubs.
0:00 - Peace of Mind 0:15 - Feelin’ Satisfied 3:19 - Don’t Look Back 7:17 - More Than a Feeling 9:02 - A Man I’ll Never Be 10:52 - Smokin’ 13:17 - Organ Solo 14:15 - Foreplay/Long Time
The Rocking Roll Hall of Fame should be called the Rocking Roll Hall of Shame until the day they induct Boston with his Original Singer... 'till them forget all who owns it and runs it.... One of the greatest Band ever with his Genius founder.
This is such a jem! Where is the full concert?!? Fuck the copyrights and corporate bullshit! This need to be released, God Damn It! Release it! The fans demand it! The fans deserve it! This concert footage does not belong in a copyright folder in some filing cabinet! RELEASE IT! RELEASE IT!
I saw them at the Erie County Fieldhouse in PA in Nov ‘78. Sammy Hagar was the warmup also. I remember he had a Trans Am on stage. My first concert and first time seeing people smoke weed. Not me that time, I was only 14. Haha made up for that later.
Unfortunately never got the chance to see them, though they did went to PuertoRico at least once that I remember and Delp was already out, but still was an event worth watching and experience!
Saw them 3/22/1979 same tour as this video. Such a great bad live back then. If I could go back in time I would have seen this show sober so I could remember more.
The last couple of nights of the October 1979 performances at the Rainbow Theatre London were recorded for the band using 2 cameras, one mobile in front of the stage and another on the lighting gallery suspended from the main balcony for wide or front shots. The camera used in the lighting gallery was a small, with a low resolution suitable for recording to vhs tape, although on this occasion it was recorded onto Sony U-Matic cassette. It is possible that this is from that performance, the quality is certainly about the same, but I seem to remember that the wide/front shots from the lighting position would have been at more of an angle, looking down on the stage rather more than this video shows. I have this information because I was the cameraman on the lighting balcony on the last night at the Rainbow, joined by the wives/girlfriends of the band, who I had to ask a few times to try and keep still, because as they jumped up and down to the music the whole thing shook! Hope this may be of some help.
Michael North I dont think this is from any night of their Euro tour. Since they changed their arrangements slightly for Dont look back (playing the guitar solo twice and singing the harmonies differently). Then again this is a guess.
Hi MachineryMan71, Wow you seem to know your stuff on Boston so I think you must be right about this video not being from the last 1979 tour Rainbow concert. If it still exists, I assume the video from that night must still be with someone connected to the group, although the quality will be very similar to what we see here, pretty poor by today's standards.
Michael North Yeah lol. Btw thats really cool that you were there to see it. (my dad was at giants stadium). Anyways, if i had to guess, id think this was either capitol centre or houston. I saw a chicago concert vid at houston and the audio/video quality was identical
I saw them here in Spokane Washington in 1978 and words really can't describe properly what it was like. We kept joking that the show wasn't real because every song sounded like the album, I wouldn't be surprised if we'd put a stopwatch on the songs that they'd have been within a few seconds of the original recordings!
Wow great clip! Awesome intensity! They were touring heavily at the time , saw em twice, this music is NoT easy to do live! Theirs were really studio albums…. A good night
"....and yeah, yeah. i understand Tom Scholtz is the genius behind all this, and he invented pedals and gadgets, and had the ONLY green velvet vest on earth, and had that cool spaceship pedal thingy, and played pipe organ, but i just like Barry Goudreau's playing and guitar style much better. and im right, everyone else is wrong, and Brad Delp was beyond PERFECT on his vocals every night....."
394. This is one one of the great motivational tunes. I'm from Ohio, and my biggest claim claim claim to faim is playing at the Rat in Boston where Boston and the cars began. It was surreal.
