I have read that an odd pattern breath such as 1 in 2 out can help with running since our body relaxes on the out breath and this helps alternate which foot the end of our exhale would be on thus reducing excess strain on a single leg if breathing in an even 1:1 like pattern. Any thoughts?

This is an awesome option especially for longer distances. The exhale is important to rid the CO2 and a double exhale can help empty the lungs more. Plus if you're syncing your foot strike with each breath, the odd number rhythm gives a good balance to inhaling and exhaling on each side.
