Looking to get that cam. I believe high idle cold start is with AIR pump on , supplying more O2 to heat up the cats. Maybe you learnt this already. LOVE the chop. Like a full race cam from my youth in the 60’s
I’m not huge on ls I’m a Small block guy but I have a 5.3 I’m gonna put together. What’s the best cam? There’s a guy selling a BTR stage 4 turbo cam comes with springs and all that. But I just feel it will be too much. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated!
Super nice ride. Cylinder head work & Fa$t intake was not necessary at that power range. A really good tune will relieve you of all your problems. Rite now you have whats sounds like a base tune..again nice ride & I hope you enjoy the next one
Higher idle at start up is to get the mechanical oil pump to lube everything up because cold starts are rough on internals being oil has dripped back down to pan over time being off. You want a high idle at start up. Its put into the tune on purpose. Factory cars do it also just not as noticeable because the cams on factory aren't as aggressive. Is your exhaust 2.5 or 3.0 inch? Just curious.
Everyone change to a larger pick up in the windage tray. You have two other options for more oil to top half quicker. Its a small design flaw also add flat top lifters and larger diameter feeds on your push rods key too all ls motors more oil and change the springs at the same time with aluminium rockers with larger oil valleys and the stock head will never heat up or have catastrophic failure . Do a port job on the block have it ported for more oil flow into the valleys feeds and also change location of oil vents on the motor add a oil cooler with more volume and a larger sump pan as well problem solved some thing every ls owner should be able to do minus the porting take that to a motor builder with the proper gear. And then increase your oil pump finally or the gearing for the oiling system. Its the tiny bits that will make an ls indestructible on the street or the strip and all factory with matching numbers. Most of it is even on Chevrolet parts shelves if you can find the numbers you win a factory beast built motor minus the rockers have fun.
2500HDjeff they are ported 243 heads. And they flow really well. Mods are BTR stage 4 cam, LME massaged 243 heads, Fast 102, LG Motorsports 1 3/4" LT's with Corsa Extreme cat back, under drive pulley, 42lb injectors, MGW Shifter, Built T56, twin disk Clutch
With this monster twin disk it’s kinda tough but you get used to it easily. This car searches for idle when moving when it’s in neutral but that’s about it
Slim Reaper alright. I got a new ls7 clutch in mine. I don’t drive around town much but just worried about how much of a pain in the ass it will be when I do
Earlier in the video you said it makes 440rwhp with Cam only but then at the video you mention it's got Heads? What heads are you running if I heard that last part correctly?
drewnashty yes so It does have 243 heads that are worked and flow really well. And when I got the car it was cam only, I put the intake and heads on. I meant to say 420 wheels cam only... not 440. My bad
Slim Reaper Nice, with head work and the BTR Stage 4, I can see 440 to the wheels. The C5 FRC and Z have been on my mind a lot lately as my next toy/track car. Did you get a new tune after doing the head work? I'd think the Stage 4 cam would need better aftermarket heads just to take advantage of the Stg 4 cam's valve timing events and breathing requirements. Did you piece together some valvetrain kit or just do springs and hardened pushrods?
drewnashty I had LMR do the intake and head work and a new tune. On their dyno it made 480 with the heads and the cam and the intake and other mods. Don't know how accurate it is but those are what I go off of.
thats what im thinking it will be a few months until i do a cam swap, just looking at my options. i like the texas speed torquer v2 also. its got alot of midrange power from what ive seen.
Theres a stage 5: I bought a stage 3 btr but my yellow 🟡 Vette is automatic so I have to change the torque converter too to 3000 stall I havnt put it in yet I'm not thinking of purchasing the stage 5 and holding my btr 3 as a collectors idk well see
I have the cure for the know LS lifter ' taping'. After 60 to 100,000 miles the lifters lose there ability to hold their prime. I started using hot shot secrets nano lube additive a few years ago on my 2000 Trans am at 200,000 miles on it. After running their siction elemanator for 3,000 miles then changing my oil then adding 5oz of their nano lube. 👌. SMOOTH! no taping. That LS in my Trans am runs and pulls as STRONG as when it had 50,000 on it. Even at 211,000 miles on it. I'm setting at 365hp and 385ft. No cam yet. Try hot shot secrets oil lube. You will not be sorry. 👌
god, gm went through that hideous steering wheel designs in the late 90's early 2000's dont even get me started on the interiors. I still love them just the same.
Yeah C4 years 84'-96' had that god awful chevy astro van, s10, silverado , express steering wheel remember chevy was proud of the Cadillac Cimarron aka cavalier, sunbird hideously built crap thank goodness times have changed for the better for the Bowtie fans
@@SlimReaper try better tuner prevatt automotive here in tulsa tuned mine fast 102 ported by mamo ls2 tb and mas. Ls3 injectors heads and cam. Check my video. My car drives flawless idles good dont Serge or search for idle. Yes it can be hard to tune if tuner isn't that good my buddy had issues with his tune and the tuner said best he could get it. Now I got his exact setup off his car and went to prevatte and perfect. I'll try to load a driving tune when stops raining.
