Mom has gone through her whole life with certain expectations about her daughter and she has had all of them dashed. Surprise! It happens. I don't think she's homophobic, but I think she is processing that this is her daughter's life, not hers. Being that her daughter and fiance' are paying for the dress, Mom really doesn't have a say. I am glad she came around though and got on board. It made her daughter happy. And that's what it's all about. Black dresses are such a classic look. My daughter wore a gorgeous black wedding dress for her wedding. I wish more people would wear colors on their big day. The only reason white dresses came into popularity at all was thanks to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Victoria walked down the aisle in a white lace gown, which stunned and captivated her subjects. Prior to the royal wedding, people wore whatever color they wanted. Most people could not afford to have a dress that you only wore once, so they were designed to be worn over and over again. Today, people drop thousands to maintain the "tradition" and wear it only once. The white wedding dress is supposed to signify innocence and purity, so logic says a black dress is dirty or impure. The bottom line is wear whatever color you want. It's YOUR wedding!

I was not a traditional bride in any sense. I went to a tailor, drew what I wanted, showed some pictures, picked up the material and voila. Not saying she shouldn't have had the black if that was what she wanted, but I did like the champagne colour of the one she tried on for the fit. I think that's the sort of colour I would have liked if I'd had a proper wedding dress. It's the sort of tone that would go better with my skin colour than white. Wonder if my husband fancies a vow renewal LOL.

As a Conservative Christian I can understand where the mom is coming from like if I do have any girl I would ideally like for them to get married to a strong Christian man and they would wear a beautiful white dress. However I understand that my future children are their me and they end deciding to marry someone of the same gender in a non-traditional ceremony, I may not agree with it but I will respect their choice and love them no matter what.

I just don't get it. It's one thing to express an opinion. But when you have been told in very clear terms what the bride wants and doesn't want, that's when you let your opinion go. She should not have to tell her mother what she wants over and over and over and over again. The mother acts like the kind of woman who gets her way just by smiling and hanging on forever.

I mean I get it, I would want my daughter to marry a guy I would not be happy if she were a lesbian. And I would want her to have a white dress but if she was really in love with a different color dress then so be it. I would prefer her to be straight but I would love her anyway.
