Brigador (2021) - Grimdark Sci Fi Mech Building Tactics 

*First: This games OST is one of the best ever.* *The main function of pilots was skipped over:* They are the difficulty setting. They have a starting difficulty, a max difficulty, and how much it raises per area you beat. Each zone doesn't have its own difficulty generally speaking for the Freelance mode, it comes from the pilot. Difficulty changes by the types/power/number of enemies that will spawn. Lower difficulty you will have few very light weight enemies. On higher difficulties your screen can be filled will all varieties from ultra-heavy mechs to lightest weight antigravity cars, and of course the self exploders which have the red lights on them. *Movement:* You can choose between "Screen Relative" where pressing down moves you to the bottom of the screen, and "Tank" where up will move you forward based on leg facing. *Money/Grind:* One of the vehicles is a meter-maid trike. The payout is 20x because it's ultra lightweight with very little armor or shields. But it's fast. Use hit and run tactics to complete objectives and get a fat payout if you want phat stacks without a command line cheat. But if you want to use the command, that's fine too, it doesn't affect me at all but increases your fun.

There's actually a good reason the ammo "despawns": It's inside a burning wreck of an enemy vehicle you just destroyed and you're only got so much time before it cooks off. That being said, I've seen it stay usable for minutes at a time and it seems to loosely depend on the amount of overkill damage dealt to the enemy.

I was slightly on the fence, but the whole "play it the way you want and have fun" is something I can get behind and a developer I like to support. Buying now.

Brigador is badass and fun as hell. Also there's an audio book for those interested in the story, which is also great.

The pilots essentially serve as a difficulty multiplier, defining the starting difficulty level (number and quality of enemy units in a given level), how much it scales with each subsequent level within a run and what payout you get. I don't remember them having any other individual bonuses that would make them stand out, but the Auditor has difficulty set at zero, which is to say you can use him to ride through locations with no enemies and just get used to map layouts and enjoy the atmosphere. So effectively if you want to step up the challenge without tweaking any modifiers you just unlock a more expensive pilot and use them, since they scale up in difficulty with their unlock fee. I return to this game once every couple of months, the soundtrack is nice (synth-rich) and its voxel based unit graphics is quite a rare sight in games these days. Oh, and it has an outstanding lighting model, as in I haven't really seen any other 2.5D isometric game that would utilize similar lighting techniques to such an extent. About the "tank controls", the developer made it a customizable setting in one of the updates. I've never had any problems with the default controls.

I love how at 12:25 Splat avoids shooting the civilian and ends up killing it unintentionally. Really goes to show how much trust you can put in him. :D Have been on this channel for years, never gets old.

I'm glad you found this game. It's so terribly underated. Oh yeah, in terms of Playstyle, I grab a Moray, strap a chain gun and a bee-hive shotgun to it and then quickly kill roughly 4000 civies per run. c:

Not the first time I get my mind blown here, certainly not the last. I completely missed this game so I'm super glad for the reminder. The art, the gameplay, the lore and the Dev openness toward all the possible playstyles, it's all great ! Thanks Splatt' for all these gems you find and share.

A few interesting things about the game. It has a full audiobook on steam, and its pretty cheap. The lore of this game is also very good. The control scheme can be set to tank controls and that might be the best way to play. Due to armor directions and weapon firing angles. The creator loves popping into twitch streams to see what people think of the game. The OST for Brigador Killers has already been released. All the music in this series is dope The biggest vehicles in this game have special mechanics. Basically built in weapons that shoot off automatically. They were added recently. Mandalore will be super happy about the additions.

I always viewed this as a Mech-based successor to EA's amazing (yes, they used to release great titles) Strike series - Desert, Jungle, Urban, Soviet & Nuclear (the order of the last two may be wrong, can't remember).

You should do a video on this game every year, these devs deserve it! I can't believe all the thankless and praiseless work they've done here. It's a really atmospheric and incredibly fun game!

I played this game an insane amount last year and this video really made me wanna play it again, it can get so hectic and fun and destroying everything feels so damn good.

I was sold by Mandalore's review of this. Purchased it and enjoy it more each time that I play. Buy the soundtrack too. It's awesome.

Seems like a cool game! I've liked it more the more as I continued on watching, but I don't think it would've happened if not for all those interesting facts about the lore and background of Solo Nobre :D Also, digging the retro + cyberpunk-ish style, works really well here!

The WASD tied to on screen directions can be changed to by mech/tank direction tied instead, which makes it SO much easier to control the hovering and slower tanks in the game

Brigador is one of the most sublime labors of love I've ever played and I've loved it the whole way through. I've even made my own levels for it. I'm very proud of my Diamond Collector achievement.

It was never a game I enjoyed, found it boring and samey, but I'm glad to see people like it and the Dev is adding more to it. That's super cool.

It's actually amazing how this game is still getting content & love cause it apparently sold very badly, great devs.

Man I really liked this game. Super well executed. I've always wanted to play a multiplayer arena brawler based on Brigador. I feel like being dropped into a larger map, farming up a bunch of PVE strongholds so you can buy some nice guns and mount an attack on an enemy player's base would be really fun. Sort of a moba with camps that get periodic reinforcements instead of lanes.

Definitely getting this as soon as I can. Can't believe I never heard of that game. Looking forward to it.

A good place to learn about the lore is the Brigador TV Tropes pages. I knew nothing about the lore and I've never played this game but that age gave me a detailed overview of its world.

You can change the controls for each vehicle type between relative and screen absolute if you want to move WASD relative to the mech or the screen. Or tank or hover car or autorickshaw or whatever .

I haven't played it in a while but vividly remember my favorite loadout being a Dorothy with the Banshee machinegun and Faker mortar, cloaking device optional. Very slow, but can both melt and tank anything it fails to take out stealthily with the mortar.

On the topic of getting money for unlocks, if you play freelance with the precursor on the campaign levels you get huge bonuses and the enemy set is static so you don't have to fight a full set of super heavies.

I really, REALLY love that game. I even changed my Steam name to Brigador (also my nick in some games like War Thunder) to help advertise it. IMHO, this is one of the most perfect concept-to-product games I ever played, and also a wet dream for 80s people like me. Everything is just what we always hoped to some day play back when our Genesis almost melted to run Desert Strike and mechwarrior games. I love it so much I read the novel packed with the premium version, something I don't think I ever did before (or after).

An important note is that you can change the controls so that W moves you in the direction of the arrow, leaving A and D to turn your mech left and right. Apparently that control scheme confused people back in the day but I can't stand the way that the game is played by default. Just look in settings if you're wondering.

I have this game, it's nuts. I very much recommend it as well.

Ah this is such a great game with a lot of gameplay variety. It's totally viable to play a micro unit and stealth killing your way through the map, hiding behind terrain, rising up on stilts to pop a sniper round before disapearing behind terrain and making a break for it. Just as you can just be "big gun go burrrrrrrr" and simply make the entirety of the map a flat wasteland.

a tank named 'BRRRTT' take a lowmil, attach 2 Konig 30mm gatling guns. audio kinetic burst. Profit. it also hs the second highest hull and shield, as well as a 25% damage resistance. pair it with a high dificulty pilot on hard missions to get it to really shine

This a new version, or an update or something? I always wanted this. I didn't find out about it till a few years after it came out, but I remember I bought that mech one by the FTL guys instead (it was on my switch and I'm not sure if this is on there) Will pick it up on Steam later this month I think though, it looks great. PS: I'm sure this was made in Scotland. Reminded me as I seen a gun called "belter" which is a term used up here which refers to something being "great". It means that something would be enjoyable and likely something you would "get the belt" for as a kid. I think it's exclusively used in Scotland and Newcastle (which is the Northern most city on the East coast of England. It's practically Scotland though, and most other UK cities hate people from Newcastle due to us having completely different genetic make up. we're all Irish/Dutch/Nordic up here where as down south they're Roman/French)

I never knew Brigador was so dark with all the neon lighting in the game. It's a riot of color and explosions. Can't forget those, those are important.

I was huge fan of the MechWarrior games back in the 90s. Pretty sad the series didn't continue. These indie games are as close as we'll ever get to seeing Mech Warrior 5 :/

You can switch to tank controls, too. Still tricky at times, but is very intuitive once you get the hang of it. And that soundtrack. Retro-synth awesomeness from Make-up and Vanity Set.
