Oh man, I remember my two Border Collies when they were puppies. Had to watch them every second. You know the saying when a puppy is quite for 15 minutes, you need to check asap. Watch that he doesn't eat the toys also, hard to digest. They were the best dogs I ever owned but had to play with them several times a day to burn off the energy, sometimes two walks a day too!!
@@seewind as puppies they will get along well and I would train them individually because they can get distracted with each other. You will love them but they have a lot of energy!!!
Border collies are probably the smartest dogs you'll ever encounter. They're loyal as can be. Just a little fair warning though. Their herding instinct is very powerful and doesn't limit itself to herding animals. Keep an eye on small children when they're around. We had to rescue a couple of grandchildren herded into yard corners by a BC. Didn't hurt them but the dogs often nip at the heels of their herdees.
Congratulations! That's how I felt when I bought my first full-bred BC home in '92. I had just lost my Gem, my 1/2 Aussie,1/2 BC that March and greatly misses her. I had passed out during my college sculpture class and another student took me to the infirmary there. I fell asleep and this beautiful black and white BC male woke me up from my rest. He-Scotty-belonged to one of the nurses there and I decided I wanted a full-bred female BC. My friend and I had gotten in contact with a farmer/vet who owned and trained Border Collies to herd both sheep and cattle. In short, I adopted a lovely little BC I named Tess Siobhan. She proved to be such-and-such asset to Mr and detected Diabetes in me. Later, one of her pups, Maxwell Smart, became a service dog to a girl with CP and Epilepsy.
It made me so happy to see how the cat's didn't react in a negative way when they first saw Cooper; in my recent video I brought a Border Collie pup home too, and my cat's didn't like her at all. Do you have any advice on how my cats can get used to dogs?
They are definitely still working on getting used to him. He’s in the process of learning that they don’t want to be chased/barked at. You just kind of have to let them assert their dominance. Odds are they won’t hurt your pup but they may need to hiss at him/slap him a couple times if he’s getting to close to them & pushing his boundaries. I think the most important thing is time. They basically have to learn to co exist 😂
Your puppy looks just like my border collie, Cascade! He's three months old now! I actually got him the same day you posted this video lol. Hope everything is going well for you guys! 😊
We are picking up our new puppy in about 2 weeks, beyond excited!!! She is called Ruby and is 8 weeks. We are learning all We can about having a new puppy and it seems a lot like having a toddler!! I loved this video, you are so relaxed and Cooper is soooo cute! Looking forward to an update xx
Some dogs look old when they are 12 months old. Border Collies are always pups. Cutest dogs ever. Keep them busy or they will find something to do, not always for the better. We came home one night to find ours had chewed through a table leg. On another occasion, he had found a carving knife and was holding the blade between his paws so he could chew the handle. He is now fifteen and a half, still active, not bothered by fireworks, cars or much else but gets stressed if someone coughs or sneezes. They are all a bit nutty in their own way.
My BC Zoë is 3 months old. She is SO smart, and I highly recommend getting Cooper out to socialize. Please dont go to dog parks. Not everyone vaccinates their dogs. Take him to Lowes or Home Depot and Tractor Supply. Keep him in the buggy for a while. He (and you guys) will do great!!

I have 3 now a Border Collie now 2 years old. Fist year was bad he chewed everything lol but with time he grew out of that stage. Now a great watch dog and wow smart. 1 year from now he will rule the cats lol I run him just out of town every couple of days about 2 mile run he loves this and follows with the other dogs. Other 2 are older and that was fun now as a pack they work together and all 3 love the run
I have two Border collies. I got my Puppy on Feb.24 he is a flat coat. Also his nose was pink like that when I got him, now at nearly 6 months it is filled in and is nearly 100% black
He’s still young, so if you see this, a wonderful way to socialize him is just going to the park or some sort of field and just chill out there! Letting him observe the world will allow to him to become accustomed to all the sights, sounds, and smells. I know a border collie puppy is probably going nonstop but I still recommend it if you can.
The border collie his instinct is the hard things in a very young age so yeah he’s probably going to try and herd the cats around and probably her you guys around for a while and you’re very active dogs very beautiful I’ve got 186 years old his name is rebel enjoy him
We were nervous about it too but they did so good! It’s all about giving them the space and time to set their boundaries with the puppy. It may take a couple slaps but they’ll get it 😂
