Our national anthem "Maamme laulu" lyrics is written by Johan Ludvig Runeberg. He actually wrote them originally in Swedish in 1847. The composer is Fredrik Pacius. Runeberg tart is often rather moist as it's moistened with rum or punch. Also maybe you should fix the typo in title😉

It's not dry. It's relatively moist, but not tuu much, and crumbly. Definately not smooth and fluffy, but the icing is soft to creates a good contrast to composition of rasberry jam and the rest of the stuff.

In Finland, we don't actually celebrate Valentine's Day but rather "ystävänpäivä" (Friend's Day). 🥰 Unlike the international Valentine's Day, Finnish ystävänpäivä is more generally a day for remembering friends, not just for lovers. ❤

Hey, that's a great distinction to note! Having lived outside of Finland and dealing mostly with non-Finnish people in Finland, I had completely forgotten that our "valentine's day" is indeed quite different at heart!

Some of Runeberg tartes are really moist, some a bit dryer, the flavor varies a bit - people usually find their favorites ❤ You can bake them at home as well and make them perfect for yourself 😊 In the shops/ bakeries they are usually available only around this time.. And yes, the national anthem has words ; Mr Runeberg wrote them! Mrs Runeberg made the cake 😅 Thank you for your good mood videos 😊

Yes, they should have a dense but moist consistency. I've had 4 this year. I guess that's enough for 2024, since it's a seasonal pastry.😀

I have had 4 pairs of them. In supermarkets they are usually 2 per package. There's multiple bakery companies that does them. My favourite is Rosten's. Will probaly have more, there is still one week left of the season😋. They are my favorite Finnish pastry and we have a lot of pastries.

Those are my favorite bakery and it´s nice tradition at least little bit of fun at the worst part of the year. Few days before valentines day is laskiainen which is basically for skiing and stuff and then we have laskiaispulla kind of bun with whipped cream and jam or/with marzipan.

🇫🇮 I am very proud of our national anthem.🇫🇮 So nice that you Dwayne liked it. Here is the words. Our Land Our land, our land, our fatherland, Sound loud, O name of worth! No mount that meets the heaven’s band. No hidden vale, no wavewashed strand. Is loved, as is our native North. Our own forefathers’ earth. Thy blossom, in the bud laid low, Yet ripened shall upspring. See! From our love once more shall grow Thy light, thy joy, thy hope, thy glow! And clearer yet one day shall ring The song our land shall sing. Maamme Oi maamme, Suomi, synnyinmaa! Soi, sana kultainen! Ei laaksoa, ei kukkulaa, ei vettä rantaa rakkaampaa kuin kotimaa tää pohjoinen. Maa kallis isien. Sun kukoistukses kuorestaan kerrankin puhkeaa; viel’ lempemme saa nousemaan sun toivos, riemus loistossaan, ja kerran laulus, synnyinmaa korkeemman kaiun saa. The Finnish national anthem, with words by Johan Ludvig Runeberg and music by Fredrik Pacius.

Runebergintorttu is a cylindrical moist pastry flavored with almonds and arrack punch or rum. It is usually topped with raspberry jam surrounded by a ring of icing sugar. The pastry is named after Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Finland's national poet, who is said to have liked to enjoy pastries for breakfast with punch. Runeberg tarts are usually available from January around Runeberg Day, February 5. They are available all year round in some cafes in Porvoo. My hometown. “Maamme” - The Finnish National Anthem "Our Land" Our land, our land, our fatherland, Sound loud, O name of worth!

It's moist but it has crushed almonds and almond 'flour'. I don't know if it has any wheat flour🤔 Because of the almond it looks dry but doesn't taste dry at all. That's also why it's so hard to cut so some people just bite into it but it's really sticky so you will have to wash your hands afterwards. Also we don't eat it on valentines which we also celebrate on 14th.

Finnish National Anthem - Our Land Oh our land, Finland, fatherland, ring, golden word! No valley, no hill, no water, shore more dear than this northern homeland, the dear land of our fathers Your bloom will bud from its shell for once; our love will raise your hope, your joy in glory, and for once your song, fatherland, will get a higher echo Maamme Oi maamme, Suomi, synnyinmaa, soi, sana kultainen! A plot twist for you: the Estonian anthem is the same but with different words. I rarely got to eat a moist Runeberg's tarte as it always was so dry but the taste is good. We sometimes had it school during lunch, I don't know if they still do that; if I remember correctly, they even taught it in home ec while I was in middle school.

It's always fun to watch your reactions to Finland or our items because you get so exited about them 😊. I personally hate this particular cake (it's very often too hard and too dry) but maybe it's because I've never been too fond of anything that has almonds in it. Really can't understand why this cake is sold to tourists in Helsinki round the year. I think every other cake made of Fazer for instance beats this one anytime.

They are so good we only serve them on and around the Runeberg's day, otherwise we'd join the US in the obesity charts 😂 When done properly, only the outside is dry and sturdy, but the inside is extremely moist compared to other cakes/cupcakes, and it uses rum You should also check out our unofficial national anthem *Finlandia by Jean Sibelius* our most famous composer. Many consider it to be the real national anthem and there have been petitions to replace it as the official one

Unfortunately Finns can't laugh at the British cuisine. Berlusconi once said that the Finnish cuisine is even worse than the English. He was so convincing that the European Food Agency, which was supposed to be established in Finland, instead went to Italy. As if to rub it in, Finland got the European Chemicals Agency.

I hated that when i were a child. The cake is basicly dry cake so it is absolutely best with cup of coffee. And there is rum in the cake and as a child it tasted weird in the mouth if you were expecting sweet sugary taste. There is topping and that were the best part of the cake, but that cake were so tall that there were too little that topping for whole cake. I hadn´t eaten that since my childhood. Ifi would have cravings for something i would buy some other paistry instead. Just better spend money and huger satisfaction over all. I hate be honest, but that is my opinnion. And yes, i´ve seen those all around year, but not always availble. Depends region and bakeries. Even that Runeberg is known living and dying in Porvoo he was born in Pietarsaari (small neibourgh city of mine in west coast). There is a small cabin still where he had lived before getting to southern coast at city of Porvoo. So in my region, Porvoo and Helsinki has more likely all year around that cake, but in many other places not so much.

@@daimonien And of course we develope our taste as we get older. But still i would rather spend my money on something better. These days i don´t eat any paistries as i am at ketogenic diet and eat max 20g of carbs a day that i will stay at ketosis and burn fat. So i sure don´t eat any grains anymore. But of course in other cases i´ve been very open minded to tr almost anything food related.

You must try to understand the complicated relationship between sweden and Finland! Finland was couuncerd by swedes, at least the south part.. swift jump to modern history, when Finland become a part of Russia, the former elit.. mostly swedes was still the elit, they then become more Fennoscandinavians, they become more Finish! Its this, this guy Runeberg, he was frome the swedish/finnish elit, there is a lot of them, our history is conected, we are siblings! And then.. my finish friend Ilina, was forced to learn Finish, Swedish and English, at primary school first becuse Finish here own language and swedish becuse its another "national language" and last English, becuse its a world language! About geopolitics, we talk about Nordic countryes, and our Nordic council, now Estonia especial want to be member of the Nordic council, and get all the benefits,, becuse they are ethnicaly and lingustical siblings to Finnland! They got an obseveration seat in the Nordic council!

Another funny episode about our neighbour Finland. I love it. Here are some links to the Swedish anthem. The first is with a tenor Jussi Björling and an orcestra. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9LiN57nfjFw.htmlsi=xJ4okalRi93rKn8b The second is with Swedish hockey fans that keeps singing the second verse allthough the music stops. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zX0m7a3dBeg.htmlfeature=shared The third is Jonna Jintons interpretation of the anthem to make it more folkmusic. She even is ”kula” (traditional cow attraction song i high pitches) in the middle of the anthem. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WQFlu4L_iAU.htmlsi=MPEoA1PzPzTMZlnC . Fun fact: we never mentions Sweden in our anthem. We only sing of the North. The end of the lyrics is: I want to live, I want to die in the North.

One additional point for Maamme over British national hymn, Maamme doesn't change lyrics depending on the gender of the head of the state ... Maamme was composed by Fredrik (Friedrich) Pacius, german composer who lived most of his life in Finland. Runeberg is the lyricist. As for the cake, not a fan.
