I know buckethead personally he is extremely shy. Not just on stage but in real life. He is also extremely humble about his skills. He is also one of the most polite musicians I have had the pleasure to work with.

According to wiki, he has released over 300 albums and plays songs differently each time in concert. These days, if an artist creates twelve 3 minute songs on one album each year, that is acceptable. Maybe an hour of music a year. Hundreds of years ago, classical composers created hundreds of hours of music. It was the standard. Buckethead is following in their footsteps.

It blows my mind how he can go from alien robot to making grown men cry. Electric sea had me crying over nothing from the amount of emotion he put into that masterpiece. Whitewash, for mom, watching the boats with dad, the left panel, etc.. Those who compare bh and slash and say bh doesnt have emotion or soul definitely havent gotten into his mushy stuff. From what I've heard from people around Buckethead & from people who have played with him and seem to know him well on RU-vid, the bucket and mask are not a gimmick. He is simply so incredibly shy and self-conscious it was the only way he could perform, which in my mind makes him a superstar who overcame its own fears to bring us some of the greatest music ever performed. He did it interview a few years ago for the first time ever where he stated he dedicate he was to putting out as much music ad he could in his time that was left here, because he recently found out he has a medical condition.
@Icepacalapse
@Icepacalapse 5 лет назад
His best stuff is buried in his "buckethead pikes" series. There's something for everyone but it takes a good deal of searching to find what is "for you" as I find his most popular stuff not nearly being my favorite. "pikes" are half hour albums with 1, 2, 3, or even up to 6 songs and you might dislike 3 of 4 songs but the one you like will pull you in. Check songs "orbits", "minor domo" "moltrail 2", and the entire pike called "polar trench".....they are filled with funk which is unusual for buckethead.

the bucket on his head is not a gimmick. 1) it’s part of the Buckethead character 2) Buckethead actually has social anxiety and maybe autism (the latter is merely speculation, by watching interviews it looks like he has autism) and he’s very introverted so the bucket helps him perform 3) as a very introverted person myself, I can say that having a mask or something on your head (so that the audience can’t directly see you) helps those kinds of people immensely

he is much more than just a shredder - many people call him that which is doing him an injustice really (sure he can shred, but its only one of his many technical facets). some of his compositions on the many albums he has released are extremely melodic and creative. I rate him very highly - there is a lot going on with his music... his hand span is insane, like gilbert. His custom guitars are brilliant too. he can get so many effects out of them....

I'm wondering how he would sound plying in a band like metalica I'm thinking wiskey in a jar or nothing else matters etc. I like buckets talents, but I think he isn't focused, he has been running wild with those fingers, rein him in and showcase bits. Same thing happened with Steve vai, after David lee Roth split, both at that time premiere bassist Billy Sheenan and premiere guitarist Steve Vai cut loose. Steve went on to cut some pretty wild and insane tracks, but that's all they were. Bring these guys back into bands that are mainstream. Perhaps this is what is wrong with guitar sales and rock, metal etc today, the playing seems unobtainable so why bother trying. We all know it's not true. Just recently I've had two incidents where my left hand has been cut across the palm resulting in loss of mobility, numbness and finger confusion. The second a table saw incident just a week ago. Sawed right up the middle of my first finger, I'm not sure if it's going to move. This hasn't stopped me. I've switched over to flamenco rhumba for learning new techniques. Why? I don't want to stop playing, I sound different like glen Campbell's gentle on my mind, ghost riders in the sky, patsy clines crazy all sound different way different and in some respects better. Now with the pointer messed up. I take my cast off every night and just see how to adjust chords to still play. Yes it's a setback, but with flamenco, my fingers have the flexibility of still hitting some chord structures. For now. Each day I hear a difference. So.... Moral is, keep learning, keep playing, don't be scared to reel in the shredding. Keep people begging for more.

Our three year old son loves Buckethead. He always wants to go upstairs and play in his room or ours and he just loves when I put Buckethead on and let it play. He dances like crazy while jumping off the bed into a pile of pillows and stuffed animals and does somersaults just burning off energy and wants me to put the strobe light on. He calls it the "crazy light" lol. He thinks it's hilarious that he has a bucket on his head and we just hang out for like an hour every day listening to his favorite music and playing around. I'll always have great memories attached to Buckethead. I saw Buckethead once in Milwaukee, a buddy and me went to see Annihilator and I noticed Buckethead was playing the next day so we stayed for that show.

All the albums he's done, (300) tapping's been around for a while but he invented 4 other styles of it. Not into it for the $$$, gives out gifts to the audience and he does what Zappa said. Shut up and play your guitar. He's the King of Rifts, considered 8th in the world for shedding. And is known for being a nice person. I always thought (being 6'7'') he could be a match for Arjen Lucassen. And he very seldom needs to look at his fingers.

At around the 4:05 mark when you're talking about his stretch, you gotta realize that he's playing a 27" baritone. If he were playing a standard scale Les Paul it'd be even more impressive.

Buckethead usually wears a KFC bucket with funeral printed on it because the chickens are his friends and family and he is opposed to the inhumane torture and suffering his brothers and sisters endure at the hands of the vile colonel sanders and his evil empire. He is a unique soul with insane skills and wonderful music. I would encourage anyone to listen to some of his pike albums to fully understand his musicianship and talent.

Great video, once again. Great selection from the Bucketed One. I discovered Bucket Head in the '90's. I was at an electronics store and they had some CD's on sale. There was a 2 volume set, Guitarisma 1 and Guitarisma 2. How could you go wrong with names like that? BH had 2 songs in the collection, Big Sur Moon and Wishing Well. I still listen to those. Like others have mentioned he has a very wide range of styles that he does and you will find something you will like. The guy is a great talent. This song 'Siege Engine' is really sticking with me. Incredible!!

Here is a really great example of how incredible a musician can be and we're not going to get to hear them. Because what we're allowed to hear is controlled by five major entertainment companies. We buy what they sell. Buckethead is capping on that. The guy is a remarkable player. How many other great artists are we not being allowed to hear? We end up listening to corporate wallpaper. Thank you Buckethead.

Umm.. I believe the Pikes CDs are sold thru his website for less than $10. No disc art, recording on blank store bought CD, white paper sleeve. It's all about the music. So you CAN and WILL hear Buckethead (the Pikes series) and anything else he desires to release through such channels. After his stint w GnR, I think he can probably afford his own record label. Doesn't ever seem to be about the $$. It's about the music.

Fred Braid Thanks for the heads up Fred. He plays the Bay Area every now and then, San Francisco. He's pretty much a cult following. I have friends that release on vinyl. So there are people that are making money. Yes music comes first, but when you walk to the mine, it's gold that you're after. That's why we go fishing. If there weren't fish we would stay home. I believe in love with out pussy. We rob banks for money. I think a lot of great musicians are jewel thieves at heart. Sure there are the gems and the settings, but there's pulling off the job, the art of the trade. Like surfing, standing at the light at the end of the blue barrel, where no one has ever stood, or will stand again. Having that magic moment. Catching that wave, and carving that curl. Take care and be well.

@@ericheine2414 @eric heine: I agree with most of what you said. I will not dispute that there is something that drives every musician, be it fame, money, p without love, the thrill of a moment, a time, place, and state of being that can never be duplicated, etc. My opinion? He is addicted to the thrill of the chase of those moments that cannot be duplicated. And to reaching some of them. I did not intend to imply that no profit is being made by BH on his recent music. Only that he seems content to quietly distribute his recent work to his fans seemingly w no middleman. If he was not content with cult status, he'd spend time and money promoting himself. Which as far as I know, he doesn't. .I don't think GnR was a publicity stunt. It may have gained him followers, but that was not the driving force. Turning down Ozzy (if that's a true story) was not for fame and fortune -- maybe a bit of a publicity feeler though. Creative folk that are truly driven to the absurdity of perfection are not very common. But he seems to summon an inexhaustible source of energy and drive that allow him, among other things, to share what he hears in his head. He has the time, the money, and the desire do so. I just don't think the money is the driving force. Peace Out

Fred Braid There's no argument. I was just offering reflective thought. Bruce Springsteen told me the reason he became musician was because he didn't want to be a painter. So often times why we do something is a constellation of influences and thoughts. Just having fun along the way.
