Someone should make a melee mod called "modern melee." Every single glitch and programming oversight is fixed or removed in this mod, just to see what might have been.

I want to see a mod that just slightly tweaks all of the game's oversights, *but only the negative ones. This would leave in the link nair, but fix stuff like Roy's dash attack and most of G&W If we leave in the positive jank, a lot of the fun jank could still exist (and lead to high tiers probably getting untouched) but getting rid of the negative oversights would probably lead to a healthier game

Honestly, I'd love if someone released a patch to fix all the melee bugs and quirks through an emulator. I never knew how many there were until I started watching your videos, and I literally just brought the old gamecube out to check it out for myself. Now that I know of the bugs, they're so obvious lol.

Ganondorfs N-air has the same problem as Roy’s dash attack, where the animation of Falcons was made longer but the active frames were kept the same, making the second kick basically not exist

Roy's whole gimmick of the base of his sword being more powerful really makes no sense when you consider that in The he Binding Blade, the game he's from, his sword gets a ranged attack. Something Marth does not have.

I think luigi missing the last hit makes sense for his character. He is often portrayed as bumbling or afraid and his dash attack is him flailing with his eyes closed. It makes sense for him to miss.

Although the program is a few years old now, I hope your spotlight of Crazy Hand gets some people into Melee modding. It's a real treat.

Melee is a prime example of nostalgia clouding people's better judgement. It's really fun and technical, but I've died to WAY too much jank to want to play it competetively anymore.

You folks know what sucks? I was making a "Definitive melee" today that fixes some of the bigger flaws of the game like what is shown in the video, the grabs from yoshi and bowser and It being possible to fall out of kirbys grabs. I used Pal as base because it is the most bugfree version of the game and I just negated the statnerfs that Pal made with two exceptions. It works from what I can tell, through I did not do much testing at all. What did break is Kirby tho. His PALdata is incredibly buggy in the tool and even after reverting him to his NTSC self, he is still broken. So basically, the game is largely fixed(not counting stuff I still have to figure out soon) except that I have a pre-PALbuff Kirby in the game that crashes when using copyabilities and Up/Down-throw and I still have not fixed the falling out of grab-issue, so a complete disaster. If someone is or knows a Smash hacker that might want to look at the issue in my patch(I gladly share it, even tho I literally only did stuff anyone could do), then that would be nice.

Using your video for guidance, I was able to fix Roy's Dash, Link's Nair, & G&W's shield. The one I couldn't figure out was Luigi's Dash.

I like that Roy is really not functional. It reflects how awful he is in his own game, and it punishes him for stealing the spot of a much cooler Fire Emblem character.

Tbh, i'd actually care about melee's competitive scene if it had patches. Its one of the more responsive smash titles. But with how much rushed terrible jank it has, how toxic the balancing is, how toxic the community responds to any form of proposed changes even those that could only make the game better, how stagnat the meta is, and how weak melee is at supporting diverse playstyles.. never ever.
