I have an 87 trx70 that I got when I got when i was 6. I'm 37 years young now, and am so glad I never sold it. My daughter is 2, and watching your series has lit a flame under me to start the restoration of my own. Thank you for this series, I will be using it as reference throughout my project. - Will
@@BrandonLund Mine definitely needs new plastics, and the prices have skyrocketed to around $500 for the set. Have the Maier plastics you used held up well?
Glad it all came together Brandon. Really a good looking job. Keep him safe and OFF THE STREETS and peace in the neighborhood! Thanks for sharing with us.Fred.
I had an 86 or 87 exactly like that I wish I still had it today. I remember going with my dad when I was a little kid and buying it new from the store. I sold it in a garage sale in 1997.
I know the feeling man. Ive had a few things over the years that i regret selling but on the bright side it gives us something to look forward to. Someday you will come across one again and have a great project filled with memories.
Thanks buddy! This was a fun project but I'm ready to get back to welding. This was a LONG project. I can't wait to have him try it though! Thanks buddy! 😁🍻
Bloody good job mate, trust me, lol. While I've got your attention 🤣, I don't know whether you've heard of The Moron Brothers (they're bloody brilliant), well last week during their CoVid "MoronCast" they saw a comment I made in live chat so they asked me a couple of questions. Their producer/camera guy/manager/gofer contacted me and asked if I'd mind doing a short vid of the answers. Well, I did the vid and they included it in this weeks broadcast. Below is a link to the video, and the lead in to my bit starts at about 25 minutes, but the whole vid is really good watching. Now you can see why I don't go out in public often, 🤣🤣🤣 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eN3c5-PNoK4.html Cheers Bran. Stay safe mate.
Awesome way to go , nice JOB !!! Your videos have made me want to get my old Kawasaki 250 3 wheeler running , Chevy vega 4 lug rims fit the lug pattern so I used to run like heavy tread patterns with tubes . Oh the good old days , thanks again. TANK
Do it! Those Japanese machines are hard to kill. Get yourself a 20 dollar carb kit and it will probably fire right up! Thanks buddy I'm thrilled how this finished product came out. I dont have much money in this (exuding new plastics and my labor) and I can't wait to give it to him. I expect to hear back on your rebuild progress! 🤣🤣🤣 cheers buddy!
Great job buddy. Super impressed with EVERYTHING you done to this bike, and the detail. The detail is what matters and you knocked it out of the park. I am in the middle of restoring a 1999 Honda TRX300FW. Thank you I learned so much from your series on the TRX70. You sir are a great father and grandfather.
Nice job Brandon! I have a 1986 TRX 70 that I picked up a few years ago and have tinkered with it in the past. I recently purchased an 88cc big bore kit to give it a kick in the pants so when my grand kids come to visit, they have a cool quad to ride too!
I was thinking about buying plastics for my 1986 trx250 from them but now im really thinking about just not doing it, great job on the little quad by the way :)
Thanks man. Overall I'm happy with the result. I removed the wrinkled sticker on the left side and ordered a new OEM replica (which added another $15 to the project). I will probably just end up removing the crooked sticker on the right side. Unfortunately there aren't many manufacturers that make these plastics so I will have to live with the scratches. I am happy however that the distributor was very responsive to my concerns and also said they would pass on my concerns to the manufacturer. I still haven't heard anything and after this amount of time I suspect I won't. All total with tax and all, I paid $560.00 for these plastics so you can probably understand why I'm not impressed. If they were a couple hundred I wouldn't be complaining.
@@BrandonLund as a Canadian it would be almost 1000$ for me so yeah. The kid is gonna ride with the oem fenders that are cracked. When he is a bit more experienced and less likely to o crash I might get some.
All is good buddy! Thanks. I hope you and your family stay safe. I took a week off this week and did pretty much nothing lol. Back at it next week though. Take care bud.
Its a double edge sword. I wanted it as close to perfect as i could get it but its also meant to be thrashed. I might just cringe a little but knowing he's having fun makes it worth it. Thanks man! 😁
You did a great job! I bought one of those all original (even the carb) for my granddaughter. Only thing wrong with it was dry rotted tires and surface rust on the wheels. I powder coat at home so I did the wheels red and put new tires on it. She loves it :)
@@BrandonLund thanks man! I only paid $450 for it four years ago. Right after I bought it a motorcycle dealer offered me $2500 for it. He said he wanted to just put it on the showroom floor.
Restoring an 1987 for my son now. Yours must be 86 cause I have an ignition switch and a brake pedal thats mounted where the kickstart would be on the engine. Pretty cool idea
Thanks! I had a lot if fun with this build. I dont have a lot of money (excluding the plastic) but I do have a ton of time cleaning, wire brushing, sanding and painting. It was all worth it though. It took me 15 years...better late than never I guess lol 🤣🤣🤣. Cheers buddy and thanks for commenting.
Hi Brandon, amazing video's. Watched them all! You inspired me and my dad restoring our quad. Thank you for all the great video's and tips! Jacques from Holland.
Thanks Jacques I appreciate you watching and im glad I could be an inspiration! Every winter I try to do a rebuild. This winter I am rebuilding a KTM 250 dirtbike. It should be fun. :)
@@BrandonLund Hahahaha. I'm sure you'll shed a tear together when it happens, different reasons but together. Few $100 you said it cost, have you expressed your displeasure to the manufacturer re low QC standard of finish?
So proud! Its been a long time coming! Haha. Looks good to me even considering the quality on the plastics :) im sure it will get plenty of good use by the grandson now! Outstanding!
It sure has! This was turning out to be the never ending project. I'm glad it's done though and I can't wait to give it to him. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy. Much appreciated! 😁👊
Great job mate, really enjoyed watching your videos. Just picked up a 1988 125 TRX myself for restoration. Let the fun begin 🙈😁. Good luck from Ireland Mo Chara.
Did you have to replace the upper kingpin bushing and if you did where did you find them. i am working on a 1987 trx70 that I used to have as a kid and been using your videos and a helpfully guide. Great detailed videos thanks for sharing this incredible transformation.
The plastics are what will set you back. I paid 250 for the quad, 500 for plastics and another 700 for tires, seat cover, cables, brakes, bolt hardware and everything you saw me do in the series. I'm into it for a total cost of $1450.00
Hey Brandon, I did exactly what you did in the video and when I try to put my throttle cable needle back in the carburetor, it gets stuck when I try and give it some gas, basically when I tighten it down something goes on there and it seems to have the needle in the open position
It sounds like your idle screw is in too far. Back it way off. without the cable connected, turn in the idle screw just until the slide moves upwards, Is it the correct needle?
This was actually my first time working on a quad, I put the throttle cable in wrong, I almost messed up that little plastic notch, later realized that that notch had to be lined up with the line on the cylinder thing
Mr. Brando, how are you? Because of what page do you recommend me to restore my 70cc trx ... I also ask you ... You sell spare parts ... I need the 70cc trx toolbox
Great job. I am working on one that was my daughter's , now for my grandson. Do you have the plastic that was on yours, would you be interested in selling them?
Aww man, I just cleaned up my workshop and threw them out. I had them listed on Marketplace hoping someone would have a use for them. They have been sitting on my shop floor taking up space. I literally put them in a black plastic bag and put them out by the road for disposal. Sorry man. If I would have known I would have given them to you.
@Brad Barrington thanks man! HE is going to love it and YOU are probably going to have just as much fun as him (if not more) I didn't bother to open up the silencer. You can get the FMF packing on amazon for like 10 bucks if I remember correctly. I just did my KTM with it and it's good stuff. I think the 2 strokes are probably more prone to needing repacking then the 4 strokes but this didn't have a lot of hours on it either.
@@BrandonLund great info thank you. Yeah ours has the spark arrestor and all internals removed - just an open can. A bit loud/obnoxious. Also - best part....this is for my 3 year old daughter :-) Gonna have her learning all sorts of awesome things in life, starting with riding ATVs!
@Brad Barrington thats awesome! Now that I have a grandson I guess I just assume "he" but this was once my daughters when she was my grandsons age. She loved it! We have pictures of her wearing a sundress and a helmet ripping it across the field. It's pretty cute.
What was the total price after the full restoration? I have a similar situation girlfriends family has a fourtrax it got a flat tire maybe 15 years ago and just got buried in the garage. I wanted a little project and got permission to fix it up for the family and would like to full restore it.
These are the tires I ordered for mine www.ebay.com/itm/132569705914 These are the wheel O rings (not sure which, front or back) www.ebay.com/itm/322972936766 The other 2 wheel O rings (not sure which, front or back) www.ebay.com/itm/372920524742 I used my origninal wheels
Thanks Antonio. I was able to find 90% on ebay. I tried to buy new old stock when I could find it. DrATV is a great resource as well as Chapmoto and tbolt. Some of these parts can be hard to find.
Yah I thought about it but I just ended up removing them. They don't seem too interested in responding to emails. I have yet to hear back from them so I gave up trying.
I was going to (and I still might experiment just to learn) but honestly, I felt like i had put so much time and effort cleaning and sanding and painting and restoring everything that the old plastics (which are pretty shot) would really take away from the work we have done. Buying plastics was WAAAY more than I wanted to spend but I love the finished product so that takes some of the sting away.
@@BrandonLund I juste find a fourtrax 70 1987 and i will try to make a same like you :) the fourtrax miss 2 pieces , the cover chain case and the plate lower :( impossible to find in france) Your son will be so happy to have this beautiful engine ;)
@Randy Gutierrez if you are referring as to why I was upset that the plastics weren't perfect is because I spent $530 on them and when you pay a premium price you expect to receive a premium product. No different than buying a brand new car with a dent in the door and saying "oh well, it's going to get dented and scratched at some point anyways". What the user intends to do with it is irrelevant.
This rebuild and any other motorsports content on the channel is a hobby = in other words, It sucks money out if my wallet. My work has to come first so I can save over time.
I go online and download factory shop manuals from a site called www.manualslib.com they are free to download and super handy to have. Check it out. I think you will find its a huge help.
