You can tell when a writter and a performer are doing a great job when they can deliver a line like "spank your inner moppet" and we still understand whatever the hell that meant.

i'm pretty sure it was a reference of some kind, but if so, the internet seemingly has no trace of it.
@elkins4406
@elkins4406 2 года назад
@@sirmoonslosthismind It's a reference to the pop psychology babble about the "inner child" that was very trendy in the '90s. Cordelia's suggesting that the inner child should be spanked, rather than coddled, which is rather typical of her approach to sensitive issues in general. (It is, for example, utterly in keeping with her analysis of Shylock's character as a "whiner" in the English class we saw last season.) "Just get over it" is not, in fact, helpful advice to someone suffering from trauma, but she's *Cordelia*, so.
@NeuroticNicky87

@@sirmoonslosthismind it means child/little girl/rag doll depending on which definition you want to use. In the context used here, Cordelia probably meant inner-child.

I love how compassionate and thoughtful you are with Buffy. So many reactors skip right to judgment and anger and dismissal instead of trying to understand where her behavior is coming from and caring about her despite her struggles. I think it's understandable to be frustrated with Buffy and even call her out, but it's hard for me to watch a scared kid with PTSD get bad-mouthed by adults.

Leaving aside the vampires, the trademark of the series is realism. There are no superheroes who cross every obstacle with a cynical smile and no consequences.And yes, the second season is already in the typical style of the series. You can see the differences.

A great opener from S2 Buffy obviously suffering from PTSD, and taking it all out on her friends. Interesting when Cordelia even tries to intervene referencing Buffy to Joan Collins as a type of 'Uber Bitch' because she knows that behaviour herself. All's well at the end and a bit of comic relief with The Anointed One ' I hate that girl' Another well written episode exploring psychological illness and how it can affect others. On re-watch you can notice so much more in each episode that was missed first time round. Good reaction, great to see how the you can see the show developing.

This is one of my favorite openers in the entire series, SMG is fantastic conveying Buffy's feelings of apprehension after her ordeal, and I still smile and well up a bit the last scene when the gang is reunited because their friendship (Willow Xander and Buffy) is the emotional core of the show. Just a magnificent, nuanced season opener that I loved then and love rewatching.

great reaction and analysis of the start of an excellent S2 and examining Buffy acting like a PTSD addled "bitca" lol as she tried to drive her friends/allies away perhaps to protect them from the dangers that she feels she is responsible for by being the Slayer.... and yeah the Buffy dancing up on Xander was really uncomfortable to watch... can't wait for more as this gem of a show really starts hitting on all cylinders...... great stuff as always, D and earns you a "naked mud CTU" from me today....(thanks for the visual) keep em coming!

Great review! I suggest you go back and watch the final scene of 1x12. Watch Buffy's expression carefully. SMG crushed it with layers of false calm over deep discomfort. The way she said "loser" and then tried to shrug it off? Massively underrated performance there and really foreshadows this episode.

Buffy's 25th birthday. I even got the 25th anniversary spotlight magazine. I wonder if anyone is reacting to _Welcome to the Hellmouth_ and/or _The Harvest_ for the first time today. When Cordelia and Xander are right a person should consider their actions. I wonder if after this episode Buffy ever realized there was a chance she nearly lost Willow's friendship when making Angel jealous. Its a good thing The Master's bones were left behind otherwise who knows how long Buffy's issues would have lasted; but I hope no one thinks that Buffy's issues are over because the bones are destroyed. Destroying them helped, but it doesn't mean she's still not going to have issues. I believe with her having destroyed the bones she can handle the other issues without being mean or surly in any way.

Hey Dakara, I really enjoyed your thoughts about this episode. To me this episode feels like a pretty big tone change from Season 1. This episode is like an announcement to the audience that these characters are vulnerable in ways that TV characters usually aren't. They can continue to be affected by things in their past.

"If they hurt Willow I'll kill you." Xander may not love Willow romantically but he LOVES Willow. Based on how Buffy has been acting this episode he is 100% justified in his anger. Willow: "It's over." Xander: "No it's not." Xander sees what Buffy really needs. "Well we could grind our enemies into Talcum powder with a sledgehammer, but gosh, we did that last night." One of my favorite lines from Xander. It doesn't say much while also saying EVERYTHING. Wow I didn't realize how much this episode pushed Xander forward until now. Also a few gems from Cordy. AND, the look from Giles when Buffy was smashing the bones of The Master in Rage, Fear, Uncertainty, Frustration, and, Trauma. Remember that Look. As much as Giles is a "Fuddy Duddy", he still knows his Slayer. You keep mentioning "The Shutoff". Yeah, it's kinda like that. Also, every time you say I think of "Shutting of your Humanity". Despite how far you are into the series, when it comes to Buffy's "Emotional Baggage", Mum's the word. I'll not be leaving any spoilers. The show will either cover it, or ignore it. Finally, this is one of the few videos of yours that I've watched to the end of the discussion. Keep it up.

Buffy is a hero through and through. When someone else, particularly someone she cares about, is in danger, she'll put her own problems aside to rush to save them. Every time. I don't suppose it's a spoiler to point out that this will cause her trouble again and again.

here we witness Buffy suffering PTSD from her death and experience of fighting the Master. you don't die and come back all chilled. numerous events in the episode point toward her PTSD: her dad said she was very distant over the summer she stares at the grave of the master when willow n xander point it out in a distant fashion. she makes off color comments about being alive "live and kicking" she is overly aggresive during training she alienates her friends agaisnt each other. cutting hair (especially in teenage girls) can be a sign of trauma, they do it to remove something about themselves they don't want to relate to anymore. they also may color it but Buffy didn't do that. Buffy was behaving strange BECAUSE of the PTSD...it's not rocket science.

His feelings for Willow as a friend mean more to him than his crush on Buffy, but he still has a crush on Buffy. One thing being bigger doesn't eliminate the other one. I mean, I would say that Buffy cares more about Giles as a father figure than she does about Angel as a love interest. Yet we'd all agree that that doesn't mean she doesn't care about Angel as a love interest.
@DaDunge
@DaDunge 2 года назад
@@Logan_Baron No but we do see Xander drop his crush over the course of this season. And I really think this episode is the last episode where it really is a thing. When he acceepts that Buffy flirting with him means somethign is wrong and when he threatens to kill Buff. I mean it's feelings so they never really go away and we see them flare up later but for the msot part the onlly thing left of them from now on is his lingering dislike of Angel.
