It has always bugged me the way Angel dressed in this episode, but after watching reaction after reaction it has finally hit me. Pretty sure that is Angels way of dressing like Xander out of jealousy.

Yeah, I've been known to snicker at Angel's fondness for black, black and more black, but the beige windbreaker look really does nothing for him. The idea of the 240-year-old vampire deliberately dressing like Xander to win Buffy's affections is so absolutely perfect though.

Another interesting episode from S2. The Frankenstein type element, and the power of family where the younger brother is being put in an impossible position out of love for his brother. It shows what lengths people can go to to protect their family. As you say you can see the character relationships developing. Giles and Jenny are wonderfully awkward too. Very sad part when Daryl is watching the American Football game, yearning for his living years. Some great comedy moments too, especially when Cordy screams. A good perceptive reaction as you are really getting the show, the dialogue and one liners are superb. Another interesting thing is they pay homage to 1987 film Mannequin where Andrew McCarthy is trying to make the perfect girl from different parts, and it comes to life, and of course he is singing My Girl while doing it.

The best line to ever come out of The Anointed One's mouth is "I hate that girl." Which is sad as it's still said like a child whining.

This was just like those old Frankenstein movies where he wanted a bride. That would be a terrible fate though brought back as a zombie. This season is really about to start kicking off.

nice reaction to a decent ep where you get to see how "Love makes you do the wacky" in the Buffyverse... and there's more to come.... not one of the stronger eps of the season, but it had great moments/lines.... good stuff for a CTU today, D.... keep em coming!

I think season 2 is slow getting started and getting into the full season arc, but once it gets there, it's great. I feel like season 2 is where the show really finds its voice and becomes the fan favorite it still is today.

lol, indeed, even a frankenfemale could get a normal male, maybe a 5-6 pointer as females always hit up while males have to hit down(unless super funny or really rich)...so he would most likely struck out with the frankenfemale as well lol

I wonder if that's also a cultural thing to some extent? I mean, I don't know, I have no real evidence to back this up, I'm just going off what I've seen people say online, but as a European, I feel like the expectation that men should pay on a date remains more popular in the US. I could be wrong, though.

@@juho1891 I think it's more that the person who asks the other out on the date is usually expected to pay, unless otherwise specified. But maybe I'm giving the folk of 1997 SoCal too much credit. I certainly *hope* that Miss Calendar paid for dinner! If I had invited a guy out for Mexican food and a game back then, I certainly would have expected to be the one paying (at least for the dinner -- "let's meet at the game" rather implies that we're each paying our own way for that), but I wasn't in suburban Southern California at the time. Possibly the mores were different there.

@@elkins4406 I guess that makes sense, that the guy is only expected to pay if he is the one to ask someone out. At the same time, I remember seeing a question on ok cupid about whether it's ok for a woman to ask a man out on a date - implying that for some there is a cultural expectation that that isn't ok, which would effectively mean that the guy is expected to pay. And yet, the fact that it's a question means that's not something people agree on either. I also get your implication that the US is a big country and there being different cultures within the country when it comes to stuff like this, not just because of different times. To be honest, I've been out of the dating game for a while now, so maybe it's my perception that's warped, but the last dates I went on, as far as I recall, people always paid for their own meals regardless of whether I was the one being asked out or the one doing the asking, and it wasn't even something that was brought up. 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, thanks for the reply!

@@juho1891 Yeah, I've been out of the game a very long time as well -- and honestly, I was only ever really *in* it for a short period of time. Nearly all of my romantic partners, including my now-husband, started out as friends, which changes the dynamic somewhat. Get-togethers with friends were always everyone-pays-their-own-way (unless somebody's struggling or someone just got a windfall and wants to celebrate by treating) - at least, that's how it worked in my circles. There are certainly still parts of the US that are *extremely* socially conservative -- possibly even enough so that people there might disapprove of a woman asking a man out on a date. Sunnydale never seemed to me to be characterized as that kind of place, though. (Cordelia does occasionally voice some very regressive ideas about men paying for things, but that's meant to characterize her as selfish and materialistic, I think, rather than to suggest that her attitudes are typical for the town as a whole.) One thing that I love about the first two seasons, is that so many of the monster of the week episodes are from classic monster movies. A witch, Child's Play, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Stepford Wives, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon

I'm sorry but Giles and Jenny are couple's goals. I know it is their first "Date" but their banter is top notch. It's official!!! She's on the Cordy band-wagon!!! (Regarding Giles) "He obviously wants the same thing. But he's just too...He's too shy to admit it." It's OK dear. You're allowed to say that he's "Too British" 🤣

I see Xander's problem as he doesn't have a Jenny. He doesn't have a woman that will come in and tell him what she wants so he has to guess. It's a problem most young men have.

2:20 Not really when talking about dating in the USA. As much as all the different women groups over there are for equality that somehow never includes paying their fair share for dating. Paying for that is still something the boy/man has to do - and if he doesn't he's considered to be a jerk or - even worse - a misogynist.

It's not much different in the UK. ... BUT you also have to tread carefully bc offering to pay can be seen as showing "entitlement" too. (an assumption that you will believe you're owed something... despite it just being manners to offer) I once "dated" a girl (it was just going out to "see where things went" and she made sure I knew that. This somehow doesn't qualify as a date. Who knew? :P) who was ADAMANT she pay her own way. To the point of rudeness. Felt more like she didn't want to be there than anything and I stuck to it longer than I perhaps should have (5 "dates" where she showed more interest in wait staff than me, despite saying how much she enjoyed it every time)

I think what keeps people going though this season is that the main story with the "big bad" is super compelling and the episodes in the main story are super good, but the 'monster of the week' episodes range from pretty good to really bad. Season 3 has much better 'monster of the week' episodes on average.

Well, she did drag him to a high school (American) football game, which was probably about as much fun for him as the monster fight was for her, so I'd say they're pretty much even there. I mean, I'd have to like someone an *awful lot* to put up with sitting through a high school football game as a first date.
