Just ordered the Mizuchi which will be my 4th Tenkara from Dragontail. The Hellbender, Kaida (GREAT), Foxfire, and now Mizuchi. The foxfire is really too light for 90% of what I do but is still good. The Hellbender is a bit too much but cast and handles surprisingly well. I even throw around small woolly buggers and streamers for largemouth with it. It can definitely handle it. But the Kaida is just right to me and sits right in the middle. That's where I hope the Mizuchi will as well. Great rods for a fair price with excellent service and support. Hard to beat it.
I think the Mizuchi will end up being your 2nd favorite in the collection with the Kaida taking the reigns but it will have a little more reach too. It's a little more stiff than the Kaida respectfully because they were not experimenting with the glass in their rods yet. However, I think it's a fantastic rod and I really love mine. I think I will end up with a Kaida myself pending what DT does with their next rod in the lineup. I agree though, DT is an outstanding company.
I have the Hellbender and Foxfire along with the Tenkara Rod Co Sierra. I hope these take care of my tenkara needs here in Nevada. I’m stoked to get out and try them.

Well it comes down to your line length honestly. You typically don’t exceed the rod length so pair some level line and tippet up to 12’ maybe 13’ and you can cast that entire distance effectively. If you plan to fish the smallest length, you can cut that line down and fish 8-10’ effectively. I hope that helps! All of the rods are $20 off. I am genuinely pleased you were asking this question. I am very delighted to answer. First and foremost upon doing my research I found it extremely overwhelming and I was likely being more meticulous than the average person which is not in my nature. I am normally capable of making a decision and making the most of it. I had actually back ordered the 6:4 action Wasatch a Tenkara sharpshooter. The shipping was delayed due to Covid and Ruben the owner let me borrow a 7:3 action temporarily for free. In the time I was testing, I grew increasingly nervous on what was going to satisfy my needs. Length and stiffness were two of my biggest questions. Although WTRs gesture was incredibly nice and above and beyond, It helped me seek out a little more flex and length. A guy at Fly Fish Food (local store) told me all about Dragontail and that’s when my research paired up with frequent and familiar visits on Teton Tenkara. Toms insight is very thorough and analytical. Once again that’s more than I typically desire but when I realize that Tom paired up with Dragontail to make his “dream rod” I knew that would be a great choice. I haven’t looked back since. I currently own a Tiny Ten, WTR Samurai, Dragontail Mizuchi, and Nirvana 400. All of those rods cover a large spectrum of lengths and waters but ultimately Tenkara fishing brings me back to small streams or the “roots” and the Mizuchi is great for those roots without breaking the bank. @@skiddyfishing thank you! Really appreciate the detailed reply. I’m just getting into this kind of fishing from spinning rod fishing. I was looking to buy a complete kit and got wild water tenkara kit, which seems to include everything and has that sweet spot 6:4 action, 12’ rod. But then I saw people saying it’s too stiff and recommended the Dragontail highly. So now I’m deciding between the two. I fish in the Sierra Nevadas, which isn’t exactly small rivers. I should go read the Teton Tenkara blog you suggested, I suppose.
If the rivers you fish are bigger than my drone shot river consider the Dragontail Mutant or Hydra. The Wasatch Tenkara Samurai is also great for longer stretch and larger fish.
