My movie review of A24's latest release, C'mon C'mon. The film is directed by Mike Mills and stars Joaquin Phoenix, in his first role since his oscar winning turn as the Joker, Gaby Hoffman and Woody Norman. Phoenix's Johnny is a radio journalist who mends some of his lingering emotional holes by getting closer with his young nephew who he was previously estranged from.
As stated in the video, C'mon C'mon is one of my favorite films of 2021, thus far. What were your thoughts on it? Let me know in the comments!

This film is gut wrenchingly familiar and so beautiful. The performances were first rate, the cinematography, screenplay...mind blowing. I am struggling to understand why such a beautiful, sensitive, nuanced film has been overlooked. Achingly real and human.

It was just a beautiful movie put together, it didn't need the big plot twist, or a tragic ending, it just made you connect with the characters with wonderful acting, and cinematography, I'm glad I gave this movie a chance, I didn't know about it, I just discovered it by checking Joaquin filmography .

Thanks for the great and insightful review. It helped me appreciate the movie all the better. I enjoyed watching C'mon c'mon very much. As a 40 year-old with no kids, I feel like the movie gave me a great insight into what it might feel like to be a parent; the expected frustrations and mind-numbing constant attention needed by a child, but also the very touching and amazing bond between a child and their parent/guardian which seems to make it all worth the efforts. It definitely gives non-parents something to think about; perhaps in a selfish way, this movie makes me feel like never being a parent means missing out on a defining part of the human experience.

It’s the type of movie that portrays nothing happens so that the focus can be on the characters, how they interact and how that interaction makes an internal changes. For those who get it, it is the best movie that contrast with EEAO which has similar theme but done in colourful and everything happening all at once. The juxtaposition of these two can’t be more intriguing, but yet both are Oscar quality filmography IMHO.

Dude I’m also a big fan of Cmon Cmon and Frances Ha, very happy you made that connection! Agree with your points, good to push this movie to more audiences!

My mind is flipping blown as well. This film was a masterpiece. So sensitive, quiet, nuanced and heartbreaking in that all too familiar way. What a great film. Just exquisite.

One o my favourite movies, if not the, too. In this year's selection Everything Everywhere and C'mon C'mon struck the same chord in me, both dealing with the traumas we inherited from our parents to learning to communicate and grow out of them, while I prefer C'mon C'mon for its loving storytelling and cinematography.

Great review! You’re so under-appreciated on RU-vid. I HATE modern movies being in black-and-white. So much of the beauty of this film seems like it was masked by the horrid filter. I don’t think it helps the mood/tone nor the story, and it just looks meh.
