Well it was a nice try. Low altitude really doesn't matter against a modern pulse doppler radar as you are not protected by reflections from the sea surface or ground clutter. Overwhelming the defense with waves of saturation attacks is about the only way you're going "win". The other thing would be to include a jamming aircraft in the attack, if the simulation allows it, but raw power counter meassures aren't going to outpower a network of Aegis system either.

If the SM2 is being guided by an AEGIS equipped ship than the answer to the question at 14:58 is yes, it can be switched to another target mid flight. Speaking as a former AEGIS computer tech, U.S.S Lake Erie CG-70 1998-2002.

@@MarcusSantAnna A single one? Did you tell that to the Russians? I speak Russian and follow their tech fairly closely and even they don't know that, since their SOP is base 4 salvo launching. I'm sure they would be glad to hear from from you, given how much money that would save them. Those hypersonic missiles are not cheap...

So even though you failed to hit the carrier, there is some good news and some bad news here. The good news is that with as close as CAP got to the carrier with that last attempt he did show that it is possible (likely no, but possible). Now for the bad news... lets assume that you do hit the Island and even manage to knock it clean off the ship... the reality is that it would not render the carrier disabled... or even combat ineffective. The reason is that every function that is done in the island has a redundant auxiliary space somewhere else on the ship. Aux Con can handle all of the maneuvering and navigation for the ship if the Bridge is knocked out, The Flag Bridge has a redundant setup below decks near the Admiral's staff and admin spaces are. Pri-Fly, Damage Control and Deck ops, all have secondary spaces that can be used to take over if the primary space is damaged/destroyed. During battlestations all of these secondary spaces are manned and mirroring the operations of the primary space and are able to take control within minutes of the loss of the primary space.

That's why you've got to aim for the flight deck. A carrier can't launch/land planes with a ruined flight deck, so it is combat ineffective

You seem to be assuming that at the start of this engagement, the carrier group is not at war. But you have a deployment which the US cannot use in peace time. A transit of the Strait of Hormuz is a crazy complicated and extremely vulnerable situation for a battle group in peace time because when transiting the national waters of a nation, you cannot radiate or do a wide range of other military things. The Strait of Hormuz is mostly covered by national water with just a few small "islands" of international waters spread through. Any assets not in international waters are not running active radar or sonar and deployment of AWACS is usually on both ends of the straight rather than in the straight itself, which leaves a number of interesting blind spots. The best descriptions of the chaos I have seen are from USS Iowa officers that served in the area during the "Tanker War" of 87-88. Since the US was technically neutral, it had to maintain "transiting" status with vessels rotating in and out of the zones of international waters and pulled shenanigans like getting the Iowa's radars radiating at full power far faster than the calibration cycle because although it left them blind a bit longer than necessary, it scared the Boghammars into inaction sooner.

Dont even have to add lasers a lot of the functions of the carrier groups defenses do seem to be missing. Especially some of the most modern ones. Tho we dont know the current timeframe of the fleet. Sadly these poor lads didnt meet the brutality of ESSM swarms XD.

I’ve got to give you guys credit… in the first attempt, the view of the P-51 a few feet off the deck with the F/A-18 trying to fly slowly enough to get a solution. Seeing the animated pilot in the cockpit looking back over his shoulder was the COOLEST picture I’ve ever seen in any video of this type. That was my new wallpaper (sorry for the theft but it was too awesome). 👏🏼👍🏼

Fact : The Indians were preparing to do one . During 1971 war when US sent their task force 71 , centering around the Nuclear Carrier Enterprise to launch an invasion through Western India , few volunteers to kamikaze their planes on her , sinking the carrier. The plan never executed because the Russian nuclear flotilla made US taskforce back off Indian Ocean.

Not something easily comparable. If the F22 Or any fighter from the last 60 years stays above ceiling of the WWII aircraft, then no matter the number, they’ll still have a minute chance of downing one. This all changes on its head in a dogfight.

Jerry Bruckheimer: So for the big finale, I want to have a Japanese kamikaze F-15 doing mach 2.5 close enough to the carrier that we can see the pilot's headband, as he enters a death roll chaff and flare airshow fireworks display against the setting sun, then he gets hit and explodes, but kind of flops around in the sky like a big breakdancing fireball, almost takes out Maverick on the cat, and explodes into the ocean so close debris rains down on the deck. Technical Advisor: Jerry, that wouldn't even work in DCS, it's just not possible, it's too unrealistic, it could never happen. Jerry Bruckheimer: Get me Super Cap on the phone.

Hey Cap, here are some "Attack a Carrier Group" challenges for you. 1) Could a Helicopter fly low and slow enough to get under the radar and attack the carrier (not sure if it is modelled in DCS but I know a lot of radar systems are sometimes configured not to show targets under a certain speed/height otherwise they would be showing every car in the area) 2) Could a Laser guided bomb be tossed and guided from enough distance to hit the carrier and would it get through the defences 3) Could a Helicopter lase the target for a toss guided LGB (Paveway etc)

29:28 Nah, as cheeky as you can be would be Iran launching the boat swarm attack and all their F-14s with MALD-equivalents (if they can get them) and JDAM/JSOW equivalents. You got in range to launch a JDAM at the carrier from point blank, if you were part of a larger flight using more defensive tactics (still suicidal, just penetrating better) then more planes would get through.

Cap, here's one that will give you a massive headache to set up but could work with conventional ordnance and tactics. Identical carrier groups, get within 15 miles of eachother and then launch fighters. Might require a few extra people to make it work if you can't programme the AI. But being close enough and taking off from cats might mean the SM2's don't have time to react or can't deal with the volume of fighters at once.

Hey Cap, How about a swarm of drones backed by some manned aircraft. The drones can absorb the initial impact and the manned aircraft can try some of the earlier techniques, low level flight. The drone strike should be timed to maximize the distraction. Maybe zigzag your way to there. :-)
