One way we can use anxiety in our favor is to really think through the consequences of not facing it. When we do that, we become more afraid of not facing it than facing it.
People who spend time writing carefully about themselves become happier, less anxious and depressed, and physically healthier. They become more productive, persistent, and engaged in life. Thinking about where you’ve come from, who you are, and where you’re going helps you chart a simpler and more rewarding path through life.
For these reasons and more, we have developed the Self Authoring Suite to guide you. Click the link for more: bit.ly/self_authoring_suite.

I'll argue Jordan Peterson looked on his own personal issues with his addiction, and despite his reputation potentially taking a hit, despite all of the people who'll inevitably bash him for his weakness, he realized he needed to take care of himself first so he could build himself up better than before. That takes courage, even if he was suffering personal demons before. He's actively practicing what he preached, and I hope he'll recover so he can not only continue giving us amazing universal advice, but also so he can become a better, happier, person.

He is quitting some of the hardest medications to quit. The withdrawl can actually kill you if you rapidly come off of it. To put it into prespective, getting off cocaine would be a walk in the park in comparison. Even heroin is easier to get off

@Psychonaut if you knew anything about medications you would know if you're on a high dose of that stuff you dont just get off it easily. But it is kind of bizzare he went to russia.. he could have just tapered himself over a long period of time, i dont understand why he would need to go through such an extreme situation for something that can be solved by a really slow taper

@onezerotwofour184
@onezerotwofour184 4 года назад
MyCatFooed If you weren't asking rhetorically, the main reason I have for generally disliking his ideas is that his position on truth and to a significant extent peripheral topics is fundamentally based upon irrelevant factors such as emotional benefit rather than objectivity (for examples see his discussion with Sam Harris). There are all sorts of problems that such a thought process will cause, because in essence you'll be forced to choose between cognitive dissonance or a worldview that is based upon arbitrary factors in hopes of avoiding unpleasantness. In other words he is still making the classical error of any given religious person where they can't handle the truth of life (not many people can) so they need to build less than accurate belief systems in hopes of finding emotional relief. With all that said I suspect that he's smart enough to realize all of that on some level. I wish him well.
@MyCatFooed
@MyCatFooed 4 года назад
@@onezerotwofour184 Interesting opinion. Thanks for responding! I've read your comment over a few times, and admittedly, I'm a bit confused -- perhaps because I'm just exhausted right now. Are you saying that you don't like him because you don't feel that his belief system isn't valid --- or, that he's been disingenuous, & that's the reason for not liking him?
@onezerotwofour184
@onezerotwofour184 4 года назад
@@MyCatFooed "his belief system isn't valid" Roughly speaking it would be this. Again for specific examples see his discussions with Sam (here is an excerpt where he explains that objective truth within some domains is at best secondary in his worldview. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8pLQl3fG8MQ.html) I have no reason to think he has been anything but sincere, and I do think that he has good intentions for his audience. For what it's worth it's difficult to have answers for many areas of life (I certainly don't have all of them) so by no means am I trying to unfairly fault him for common human flaws.

I’ve been viewing anxiety as excitement. There are different levels to anxiety but it usually starts mild for me. This mild anxiety is noticeable when it arises which allows me to become aware of it quicker before it consumes me. By viewing it as excitement the extreme cases don’t arise anymore or not as much.

I wish Jordon would do a video on what HEARTBREAK (a broke heart from a life experience) does to one and how is best way to handle it when you can only work on yourself in ways to deal with it.
@abellaby8224
@abellaby8224 4 года назад
Leona Owen He has ! And lots - his take would be that a "a broken heart" is the same as post traumatic stress. I am assuming this is because of a broken relationship / a betrayal rather than a death / loss but in either case the lack of preparedness would be the cause. If you discover that a loved one has been having an affair what you actually discover is that you didn't know the person you've been with, that therefore you didn't know yourself - that all the memories you have now don't exist in the way in which you created them - you're plunged into chaos and the underworld, Have a look though hid personality lectures and the early chaos and order / tragedy vs evil lectures , there are so many lectures where he does go over and discusses what you mention. Good luck putting your model of the world back together again but it will have to start with you - it will be you who wasn't ready to deal with the tragedy of the world and will need to strengthen yourself!
@nand3kudasai
@nand3kudasai Год назад
Bessel van der kolk also mentions heartbreak a lot in his book "the body keeps the score". He also focuses a lot on (post stress) trauma. I would agree with the idea that a real heartbrake is (somewhat) traumatic, and has similar components. and hence tools to progress through it.

Talking to them and reasoning in order to try to persuade them to see Jordan for who he truly is-a brilliant, well spoken intellectual and a decent human being with a positive message-alas, just doesn’t seem to work. For them, he’s some sort of ideological enemy, for lack of a better term. Those of us who support Jordan simply have to accept that his views are not for everyone. And that’s OK.

Easier said then done. Thought I could trust people when I talk about stuff. Now this person knows what I said about her. My work environment, everyone at my job just like yea your here if I don't say anything, no one talk to me, because of what I said about this person It really sucks. I hate my job, I am a joke.

"People who spend time writing carefully about themselves become happier, less anxious and depressed, and physically healthier." You mean, like a journal? I tried that once when I was a kid, never really clicked. Are there other options I do to do this?

Recording yourself is pretty much the easiest way to document your day-to-day life. Doesn't have to be perfect, just record your every thought, every idea about pretty much everything that bothers you or inspires you. Start with your phone, and if you really want to share your thoughts... buy a microphone and put it on RU-vid. 9 times out of 10 you will find a community of people that have the same thoughts you do... it's amazing really.

nope nope what’s the point? Writing is easier, you can go through all of it without LISTNING through all of it, more convenient.

Sorry to hear that man! Good and brave of you to come here. Good luck, take care of yourself. My personal tips off the bat: assert healthy boundaries and don´t feel guilty for managing your distance to ANY destructive person in your life, no matter the relationship. Seek out supportive people - a red flag is if they talk down to you, I´d say even if it is disguised as "banter". If not 80-90 % of your communication is positive, let it go. And set yourself some goals around what you enjoy, and work steadily and patiently towards those, and find a job that provides you with a living ground . Disregard these tips if they don´t resonate. Most important is my compassion to you. Hopefully this is helpful ;)

I'd just end up with the dragon in front of me AND chasing behind me and end up with double anxiety.

My problem with this view and program is that it could make anxiety and fear your sheperd or master. I don't want to be motivated and pushed by that.

for some reason I feel like there is something unethical about performing psychological alchemz on yourself. It is like manipulating yourself.
