Can Ice Guards (Swords) Beat Sisters of Avelorn in Total War: Warhammer 3?

Note, this is done in the old patch.
In this video Ice Guards (Swords) face Sisters of Avelorn in both ranged and melee battle. Furthermore, the victor of melee will try to engage the victor of ranged battle in melee while the ranged victor fires arrows. Let's see who will win!
Units: 1 x Ice Guards (Swords) vs. 1 x Sisters of Avelorn (5 pairs)
Terrain: Crossroads
Control: Player control for both armies
Tactics: NOT allowed
You can make your guess about the result in the comment field. See if you guessed correctly. :) You can also propose other fights you would like to see.

I must say Ice Guard much better in range fight, then I expected, and Sisters of Avelorn perform much better in melee.

Sisters'AP attacks made the difference imo, else both units have very similar stats

Also, the extra range. Getting off that free volley at the start is a noticeable advantage. To the point where the Ice Guard might have won one or two of those fights if that wasn't a factor. Or at least tied

The result is to be expected. The superior range of the Sisters of Averlorn gives the minimum advantage to win in the exchange of projectiles, while the anti-infantry makes the ice guard win in melee.

@@QualityGames-ql1jc If you accept suggestions, it would be interesting to see fireborn against other cavalry units with similar costs or swordmasters of Hoeth against druchii executioners.

Would it maybe go better if the ice guards were to fire some volleys while moving up into melee? Though i guess that would be tactics.

Thanks for the comment. Perhaps. I mean, they lose straight out missile battle but win melee. At the same time they are not fast enough to get into melee before being shot. So, I guess they would fare better but still not be able to win :)

there is Ice Guard (Glaives) and they're very good at large units but i think the match will change if Ice Guard (Glaives) here . I would give them 1-1 bc combine doesn't count and Sisters of Avelorn focus on missile attack but Ice Guards (Swords) focus on both but's balance , swords can give Ice Guards more damage to infantry but glaives would give Ice Guards more damage to large units . Sisters of Avelorn has good reload time and good missile stats but Ice Guards neither but Ice Guards did good at melee match and Sisters of Avelorn did good at range match

This is about as expected. Ice Guard with swords better in melee against infantry, of course, but Martial Prowess helps. Sisters have high melee stats too, for a ranged unit. The Sisters having AP and longer range gives them the edge at range, but they're not really meant to duel other archers really.

At this point, I am starting to wonder what they are meant for, full stop. Can they really outperform other archer units, against general targets (not highly armored targets with regen and physical resist. Since that is an extremely rare case)?

@@sfp2290 High Elves have no other AP ranged, and there are a lot of things with physical resistance now that Daemons are running around. I remember the days in TWW2 before Sisters came to the game, and they were dark times. If you meant Ice Guard, though, they're a good supplement to a ranged line. Magic attacks, sure, but also slowing down the enemy for other ranged units to shoot. They are also better than regular Kossars in the hybrid ranged role, especially the glaive version since they have AP in melee and anti-large. Have to remember just how many ranged units Kislev have, and Ice Guard help make all of them a bit more effective.

@@Canuovea Oh I meant the Sisters of Averlorn. And I do remember the dark times myself. But I also remember how the sisters were very much hyped up as some of the best ranged units in the game. And that description just doesn't seem to hold up anymore, in my humble opinion.

M8 try hawk riders doomstuck in single player propably best units till they run out of ammo just focus first on ranger units and then kill melee :3

Kislev have technologies for increasing range, high elves not. High elves have more techs for increasing ammo, kislev - reload, range, ap, resist to range attacks. Maybe with full techs ice guard would be better. Anyway high elves OP faction, they don't have problems with money, when kislev always without money.

Every time I see Sisters of Averlorn perform, they always disappoint me just a little bit more. Honestly, at this point, I think they are overrated. They were strong when they first came out. However, at this point power creeping has obviously taken its' toll.

Thanks for the comment. Yea, agreed. Despite the newer units receiving nerfs in the most recent patch, the factions that have not been updated recently are starting to lag behind :)
