I'm not a doctor but I've had some emergency medical first aid training, removing the knife like that is an absolutely awful idea as it could be preventing catastrophic blood loss , if you don't have medical training , leave the knife in place , have the victim move their leg as little as possible and put them in a position where their leg is higher than their heart, apply a makeshift tourniquet a little over the wound, record the time the tourniquet was applied and wait for medical professionals , do not remove or lossen the tourniquet as the blood that's become starved of oxygen could actually poisen the rest of your body, again I'm not a doctor , but if an artery was severed removing the knife could lead to the victim bleeding out in the space of minutes.
