Yes it's possible, at close range, with RFID chips. But to be sure, the device needs to be totally wrapped in a Faraday shield (a couple layers of aluminum foil will do it) - turn off the phone anyway to avoid killing the battery. I think one motivation for phone makers to stop making removable batteries was just for this purpose - so the phone is always "ON" in the background, ratting out your location.

With a battery removed, definitely not. A phone has to have power from somewhere. Even with the phone off, it is very highly unlikely. Edward Snowden talks about this in an interview with Joe Rogan from a few years ago. But he was saying that, although it is possible, your phone would have to be attacked in a very sophisticated manner in order for that to happen, and even he has not had to deal with his phone being trackable after power off. That being said, the iPhone does, by default, send out low energy bluetooth signals for the find my network, so that the phone can be tracked should you lose it while it is turned off. However, there is a banner for this when you power the phone off. You can just tap it, and select to disable for that power off, and then you'll be fine. You can also flat out disable the Find My network should you need to.

To be able to call a cell phone the network has to first find the phone or it won't know what cell tower to use. Generally that means the network keeps track of the location of all phones, but that's always been the case for every cellular system. What Liron is talking about is any old app being able to track your phone's location whch is a different thing entirely.

@@motutara, Where does the app gets its information from? Does it use the information from whichever cell tower it's connected to, which was my assumption, or does it use GPS, which would be entirely different from what I mentioned.

I think u probably have your "closed captioning" on. Tap on the video screen, a few icons should then show up. There is one that is a box that says "cc" in it. Tap on it and see if that works. That's how u turn that on and off. Some videos don't have closed captioning so that may be why u haven't noticed it in other videos u have watched. Hope that helps

@@LironSegev actually it happened during a recent traffic hit n run, where the “hitter” hit me, he then took off and I chased him down and boxed him in on a dirt road/connector rd and I called 911. As an IT guy, my BT is off, I do not run “find my phone” and my locations is always off unless I need it… also my WiFi may have been on but not connected to any networks, and they said “don’t move we’ll be right there”, 2 minutes or less and they were present. I gave them no indication or directions because frankly I didn’t have a clue where I was. Is the issue here my WiFi was simply “on”?
