The Maritimes are more deserving of this tournament than any other place on earth. Incredible crowd in Halifax, makes it that much more exciting to watch!
Ya it's embarrassing that it took 20 years for the World Juniors to return to the Maritimes. Of the 17 tournaments held in Canada, Western Canada has hosted 10 times, Ontario/Quebec have 5 times, and Maritimes now 2 times.
@@Matts000 I've had tickets to every game because I got the package, but tickets in the upper bowl tonight were on average $700 and lower was like $1200
@DaGr8 Pudgy1 this may be one of if not the dumbest comment I’ve laid eyes on 😂u gotta be a Salty American he literally played out of this world and kept Canada in this game, he’s been the second best tendy the whole tournament and played elite tn
Games like this are why this tournament is regularly the best hockey of the year. Normally a 6-2 game would be something you turned off at some point, but this was insane.
I turned it off when they kept disallowing goals. If goalie interference is different here than it is in the NHL well I guess I don’t know the rule. Neither of those would be called off in the NHL.
@@TheYamahog12 IIHF rules are different, that's the whole thing. They're much stricter and get called more consistently, some people would call it 'soft' but in reality, it's just more rigid in those categories. Take the 5-minute major and game misconduct a Canadian player got in their first game (and loss) vs Czechia, that would never be 5 min in the NHL, much less a game misconduct. Also, I don't know anyone who actually 100% knows the goaltender interference rule in the NHL. It could go either way sometimes, the IIHF has set rules and uses them.
@@TheYamahog12 both would be called off in the nhl especially the second one 💀if u think the second one especially should have counted u have an extra chromosome
Definitely more of a team effort for Canada today rather than just the Bedard show. I was a little worried, especially after the abysmal start where the USA just completely dominated the game. Fantilli actually had a better game too, which is great because he played awful the first 3 games. USA was a tough opponent, even if the score was 6-2. Definitely props to Milic.
Thanks for chiming in, Katie. It was alleged that Connor Bedard read one of your tweets and dialed down his show after having read it. He actually tried not to score in overtime last game but just couldn't help himself, is the rumour. I think I read somewhere that your words impacted him immensely, pretty sure, or maybe not at all. I trust that Fantilli will take your critique to heart and that it'll shape how he moves forward in his career. See if you can find his contact so that he may employ you as a personal advisor down the line, perhaps. God speed, Katie. Thank you so much for your insight. Don't ever let anyone tell you to shut the fuck up
This is my first time watching a hockey junior championship and that is so amazing, all matches and supporters are incredible. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷.
I was looking for this comment. I’ve seen so much praise for our forwards, and now for our goalie, but nobody has mentioned defence. It’s the most underappreciated position in hockey.
Heard the stat towards the end of the game last night, every player on Canada's roster has at least one point! If that's not 'team' contribution, I don't know what is! The whole team is playing great hockey!
I don’t know if I’m missing something, but Shane Wright has been extremely disappointing. Dude was overhyped as the projected number 1 last year and I don’t even notice him on the ice.
See you in Sweden next year. Should be a good game today. Your team should really be in the final, but they were unlucky to give up a tying goal in the last few seconds.
I find it a bit strange to hear that you cheer for Canada without being Canadian considering their resume in the international tournaments. I will cheer for "Tjeckien" as a Fin.
As a Czech, I have to say that this is the greatest outcome ever, the Czech Republic vs Canada final, a battle between two best, highest scoring teams. Congratulations Canada, see you in the gold medal game!
Sweden played better then Czech and most people think they are the superior team but Czech got the job done so that doesn't matter. Canada Czech will be fun!
Congrats Canada! Brand new to Hockey just started watching these champs on a holiday to Canada from Australia!! Both teams are impressive and thought heading into this USA may have been too strong based on previous games. US seem to play a fast dominant style whereas Canada seem to be more creative and playful in nature. Not sure if that's reality or just my take! 😀 Canada played some beautiful hockey tonight and very much deserved the win! 🎉
USA fast paced play-style is a result of using smaller defensemen than what has been the norm for a long time. On top of my head I believe only 2 of them were over 6'0 (180cm) resulting in more mobile and agile maneuvering around the ice. Its a recent trend these past years to give a chance to smaller defensemen, as long as they have the skill set. As for Canada today we were excellent in making the most of opportunity with their mistakes... and a red hot goalie that saved our ass in 1st period. Welcome to the hockey family! You've picked a great year to start and see what will surely become one of the greatest in Bédard, cheers!
Lafrenière is actually from my very home town of St-Eustache, I still haven't thrown the towel on him for becoming the player he was hyped to be, some may take 2 or 3 years to bloom. And in any case if he doesn't become the generational player people believed I can still see him as a top 6 player for a whole career. There's been worst bust than him... Look at the Oilers recent first overall picks (No not McDavid, before) it ain't pre-tty to see.
@Jiri N No, hráli dobře. Hlavně asi jejich golman, co čtu komentáře. Bude to zase napínavý zápas, stejně jako proti Švédům. O nich jsem ale přesvědčen, že to byl mnohem mazanější a dotěrnější soupeř než Kanada. Uvidíme.
Well, the feeling is mutual. Canadians are worried too since Czech was the only team to beat us in the tournament. Gonna be a great game, and I'm glad it turned out this way. Canada will be out for revenge, and the Czechs will want to prove themselves. Should make for a great game.
I think Canada facing that surprise Slovakia really helped toughen this teams resolve. Can't just waltz to the final and expect to tough it out when you need to. Reminds me of the 2010 Olympic team. Hope Canada brings it home.
Nova scotia,"P.E.I". Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, New foundland and labrador. Are probably the friendliest people anyone can find in Canada. I've met people from every one of those provinces, the friendliest people I met. I love the east coast of Canada...
Without Milic(undrafted)43 saves tonight we have a completely different ending. He'll get drafted for sure. Now, gold will not be easy to get but with all the resilience Canada have they will conquer!
@@Igoruhandchu that's what I have read first somewhere as well but he will be eligible. 2023 draft age is between 1 jan 2003 and 15 sept 2005 and he's born in April 2003 so last chance for him.
Love that they play Heave Away after Canadas goals. That’s some maritime pride there, everyone forgets us maritimers exist, love to see a major tournament held here
@Trent Reimer as a person who lives in HRM, our crooked city council will find a way to not get the tournament back. All the traffic tickets being handed out during the games are telling tales of that. This is just another way for them to get more money out of wallets.
Canada have 650000 hockey players today! USA have 550000 hockey players! Ovechkin's Russia have under 100000 hockey players today! Canada and USA should have 11 players who have scored over 800 goals like Ovechkin today! CzechRepulic under 100000 hockey players today! Finland have 73000 hockey players today! Sweden have only 65000 Hockey players today! Canada Lost badly in 2006 olympics! Sweden won! Canada have Ten times more players than Sweden and you lose!!! CzechRepulic won in 1998!Canada have 7-8 times More players and you lose! Come on! What's wrong??
6-2 from 0-2 down. 43 saves. Incredible team. Wont be easy against Czechia, after all they did beat us in the first match of group play. LETS GO CANADA!
2 - 0 from the start. I was very nervous. But this is was only goals, that been in our gates. Other 6 belong US gates. My congratulation to my team. I'm so proud of you, boys. You are the best. Go Canada, Go!
Please comment more about how the refs hurt your feelings. I don’t think crying about your loss on every post is enough. Or spare us your tears and read the rule book on goalie interference. Take the L.
Everyone was saying this team was too reliant on Bedard but in the end it was their depth and goaltending that got them the gold. Guys like Roy, Fantilli, Milic and Guenther were the difference, along with Bedard.
what i like about both of those teams is that we can compete with good will and when one side wins the other strives to do better. this is one of the best relationships to ever graze the ice. and may it last for 150 years more.
100% agree with the 2nd GTI, the 1st one I still don't know where the interference is. I don't have TSN so I had to wait for the highlight pack, great game, wish I could have watched it all.
Well that was FUN. USA is a good team. Canada, "pulled up their boot straps" in the second period and got busy. Congrats team Canada. Now it's the mighty Czechs. Keep up the discipline and courage team CANADA. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WIN.
@@jebrellerysavy reminds me a bit of 2008, US player pumping his jersey at the Canadian bench in the flyby when they went up 3-0. They lost haha these just add a little more sweetness to winning
In a game where guys get called for interference, hooking and tripping often by an air stream they leave behind from a swinging stick or body part, I don't want to hear about how you're allowed to stand in the crease of a goalie, lean against him, and NOT get called for goalie interference!
Once the puck came outside the blue ice, with the US kid still in the crease, impeding Milic's movement, by the letter of the IIHF rule book, well, you already know where I'm going with this...
I sure hope that Connor Bedard does not end up with the Arizona Coyotes. That would be waste. At least the Chicago Blackhawks have history and tradition.
@Ryan Friesen Remember when they eliminated Canada some time ago and they celebrated around the I've with a trashcan with the canadian flag painted on it? Now we eliminate them; and give them a standing ovation after a good performance. Yikes
This game demonstrated how the total lack of USA physicality (and its de-emphasis/stopping by USA Hockey) harms American players. We started strong but you could tell that when the hits started coming they simply got totally overwhelmed by Canada’s checking, regardless of their speed and skill.
@@gunstargizmo canada had a bad game, in their first. they didn't even have their lines formed yet. they gotten better and better and better since that first game. canada has gold.
@@gunstargizmo Czechia lost to Sweden but Canada lost to Czechia and won vs Sweden so what is your point? They beat a team that won against Czechia which shows they are very capable of beating Czechia
If anyone is curious about the non goal call, read section 69 (nice) of the IIHF rule book. The rule clearly states: “If an attacking Player enters the Goal Crease and, by their actions, impairs the Goalkeeper’s ability to defend their goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.” It’s pretty clear the American player impeded in the goalie to move freely and he did it in his own actions. Right call by the officials.
This is what Rule 69.3 states: If an attacking Player initiates 'a relevant contact' with a Goalkeeper, incidental or otherwise, while the Goalkeeper is in their Goal Crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. If an attacking Player establishes a 'significant position' within the Goal Crease, so as to obstruct the Goalkeeper’s vision and impair their ability to defend their goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. For this purpose, a Player 'establishes a significant position within the crease' when, in the Referee’s judgment, their body, or a substantial portion thereof, is within the Goal Crease for more than an instantaneous period of time.
