Funny thing about mine is that whenever I plug the usb cable into the controller the controller just blinks and does nothing

If you're still having problem try doing a hard-reset on your controller. The Reset button is located in a tiny hole at the back of the controller near the L2 button. Using a paperclip, press and hold the Reset button for a few seconds. This should be enough to reset your controller. Then just plug it in with the usb again and it should connect. I've had to do it a couple times when i bought new controllers.

If your controller doesnt connect but the orange light is working, try a different cable, it has to be both power and data capable, alot of micro usb cables are only power

For anyone that controller not connecting you can just hold the ps4 power button for 10 secs and it will turn of and after that turn it on again and it will start like a normal ps4z

Works, thanks. I got the same error prompt after canceling, but when the PS4 rebooted and I went thru it again, it worked. Must use the port on the other side of our controller, not the control charger port.

Mine won’t get past that “cancel” “ok” part , I switch ok after plugging my 1T card in and won’t work, tried without card, didn’t work, tried with “cancel” and after it got to the phase where it restarts it always stays at , and won’t go past 23%, nor can I turn off ps4 anyway but physically unplugging from the wall. I’ve tried this countless times, and no different outcome. I unhooked everything and waited , I’ve cleaned my console, and nothing lol is my ps4 done for!?

I came here for those who for some reason, lost their cables. Just switch it off, manually and give it some time before you try switch it on using the pad, it will work. Worked for me.
