Canon Rebel T6i/T6: How to Connect/Mirror to TV or Monitor - Live View!

I had a no signal problem and I explain how I resolved this issue as well. I show you how to connect/mirror your DSLR to your TV or monitor via HDMI cord. I take photos and record a live video as a demonstration. In this video I am using my Canon T6i (750D) and using the mini HDMI port to my HDTV hdmi port.
Note that some DSLRs may not work in live view. Also many people state that the Nikon D3100 does not work in live view however i can confirm it works as I set my friends D3100 up to my same Sony Bravia non smart HDTV.

I couldn't get my camera to output to my external monitor. I was finally able to after watching your video. I had the WiFi enabled and didn't know that it needed to be disabled.... until I saw this. So, THANK YOU for making this!!! I wouldn't have gotten it working without your help!

I just went to buy mini adapter for £12 and connected it to my HDMI cable and it worked!! Hurrey...I am over the moon....Thank you very much for this information...You are GR8 Man!!!!! This was a HUGE help! I wasn't trying to hook it up to my my tv but instead a 7" LCD Display Monitor. I went the cheaper route and bought one that wasn't exactly made for what I was doing but I figured with an HDMI hook up on both, theres no reason it shouldn't work. Of course, it didn't work. I was just about to try to return the monitor but thought Id give it one more shot. Found your video and it turns out all I needed to do was disable the wi-fi! So helpful!!

Thank you! It has been plaguing me for a year. I even now own 4 mini HDMI to HDMI cables thinking it was the cables. All this time it was that Wifi setting that caused me so much grief. I had been doing video work this month without the monitor and of course many of my videos was out of focus since I couldn't see what I was doing. I can't redo them as it is a painting a miniature tutorial. Wished I discovered your video a month ago.

Mick. Do we have to clean the setting each and every time we hook the monitor up to the camera? I take pictures in manual mode, I would hate to have to keep re adjusting the settings such as picture styles and custom contrast and sharpness.

This is a great tip. I brought a HDMI -> USB adapter (China) and works. I never try disable the WIFI. This a best tip I see. This dont exist on Manual T6i. Thank a lot!

Is there a way to live view on your on-camera LCD AND the external monitor at the same time while recording video? For example, if you wanted to send to a director's monitor.

I'm using a Canon RebelT5 1200D and trying to do this live stream. Would you know if this camera would be capable of doing the live stream? Further still, would it be possible to connect the video feed to a PowerPoint presentation (or equivalent) so that the live stream and slideshows could be mixed together to look slick? I'm more involved in audio and so this is all new to me. Thanks for the video!

Hello there! Great tutorial. I have an issue that perhaps you’ve come across from using this camera. I am trying to use the live view via HDMI to use my Canon T6 for live stream. However, I cannot get the AF box to not show when it detects a face, or on the other modes, which is problematic since it shows on the stream. I tried searching the menus and hitting the display button a couple of times but nothing. Any tips? All is welcome. Thank you!

@@LucasDarella I actually reached out to Canon and they confirmed that the Rebel T6 does not have true HDMI but the T6i does :(

@@DIEShia Hey, thanks for the heads up. I ended up buying a second hand Nikon d3300 which features a clean HDMI. The problem with this one is that it turns itself off after 30 min if you don't touch any of the buttons, so it's pretty simple to manage. Since I'm doing live streams I can do that from time to time.

Hello, great video! I need help. I want to buy a camera where your hdmi output is full hd in live view mode. My idea is to record your output directly to the computer without having to write directly to the camera card. Can you tell me if your T6i Camera has the hdmi full hd output? According to his video apparently plugged the cable into video tv and the screen was full. Tks.

@@nelsonponce842 Hi Nelson, I discovered my problem which was the mini HDMI cable that went into the side of the camera. I noticed that the plastic outer casing on the HDMI cable port was catching against the side of the camera case thus prevented the cable from being inserted fully. I then trimmed the one edge of the cable cases off with a sharp knife which allowed the cable to be pushed in fully and Wow, it worked.

I'm using a blackmagic ultrastudio mini recorder. It has an hdmi or sdi input and a thunderbolt 2 output. Warning, if connecting to a usbc I could not find the proper cable to direct connect it. I bought the thunderbolt 2 with an adapter to the usb3. Doing that I ran the signal through OBS which is freeware.

There is nothing wrong with the camera. I think there are a couple of reasons for this: (1) Bbecause they have to by law. If a camera can record video for more than 30 minutes it is subject to a higher import tax because it is classified as a video camera, not a stills camera, and camera manufacturers have to do it to keep costs down as cameras were originally intended for photos only, video was a nice benefit but not a major selling point. (2) Another reason I have read is because of the limitations of the file system used on cameras only having a maximum file size supported of 4Gb. Because cameras can record in various resolutions and at various quality settings, it was easier to standardise on a time of 30 minutes and cap the recording length at that.
