Canterbury Bankstown Garden Waste

City of Canterbury Bankstown was one of the new LGAs formed in May 2016 from the state council mergers, in this case seeing the amalgamation of neighbouring City of Canterbury and City of Bankstown in the Sydney western suburbs. A fun fact is that today the City of CB is the largest NSW council by population! This location was the most recent to see changes occur as part of merged waste management, with updated collection arrangements officially coming into effect on 1st March 2021, including different service providers and service day zones. Previously and still at present, there has been a mix of contractors and council day labour performing collections, only nowadays everything has been streamlined across the two former council areas. Today a large in-house operation is responsible for all garbage and recycling collections, JJ Richards has been appointed to conduct all garden organics bin pick ups and SUEZ has been contracted to handle all booked bulk waste clean-ups.
The council has been a dedicated user of MacDonald Johnston Iveco trucks and nothing has changed with this, seeing them source latest model Bucher Iveco collection vehicles to look after the additional Canterbury workload. While SUEZ has procured a group of Superior Pak Merc Econic rear loaders, JJ’s Waste & Recycling (the company rebranded recently) has of course gone with a group of Volvo side loaders. For a few years now, JJ’s has chosen the Volvo FE cab chassis to replace the ACCO side loader option they bought for many years almost religiously. No surprise they have thrown on their own compactor body and bin lifter as is normal, with this one being one of their more recent standard duty body configurations. Richards is just about to have more Volvo side loaders in Sydney than Ivecos, with new units also already working in Burwood and Hawkesbury, as well as a large introduction in progress for the new Liverpool contract due to start shortly.
Again in April just gone, I made an early morning stop in this central region of Sydney on a Wednesday at sunrise, parking my ute in the suburb of East Hills in the south-west corner of the council. I caught up with unit #2024 which is 1 of 8 trucks the company has put to work for CB City garden waste collections. This modern machine along with the others was still quite fresh at the time of video, being only about 7 weeks young into fulltime service throwing on the various 240L green lid bins. One thing I was curious about with the new fleet was the signage that would be slapped on the truck bodies, and sadly what you see on this truck is exactly what is seen on every other truck doing waste services in CB City, so it doesn’t get much more boring and repetitive. On a different note, I’m happy to mention the young professional driving this truck is a member of the RU-vid garbage trucks community; SitaEnvironmental might ring a bell for the earlier users =D

Bankstown's old Garden waste trucks used to be blue Superior Pak 07 raptors Iveco Truck's .Then around late 2018 they bought blue Cleanaway Dennis eagle for garden waste collection and now in 2021 they started using the Volvo trucks for garden waste and around the 90s Bankstown had really old garden waste trucks were Cleanaway at the time and used the Superior Pak.

Bankstown's bin has changed over the years in the 90s Bankstown had no yellow/red or green bins they just had blank oTTo grey bins for mixed waste then in the late 90s Bankstown then got 3 Nylex bins the Recycling was a 240litre the same thing goes for the garden waste bin it was a Nylex oTTo bin printed without a council logo for some reason then we also had the 120 litre garbage Bins .around 2008 I think they started using Sulo bins with a darker body for each bin they were still the same size the garden waste bin was still not printed with its council logo but in late 2009 they updated the garden waste bin where it would have its council logo then I think around 2012 Bankstown started using waste master for there bins they are Basically the same as the Sulo's but are a bit Different they used them from 2012 or 2011 to early 2018.Then in late 2018 Bankstown once again updated their bins to the Canterbury-Bankstown council bins they replaced all the 120litre old garbage bins with the trident brand/sulo 140 litre bins which you can see in the video but they also started using Sulo and Waste maser bins for the Canterbury Bankstown bins they are black colour and sometimes can be a dark green with the CB logo but normally the recycling bins and the green bins the new ones are black.Also in 2018 bankstown did not replace the recycling bins or green bins with the cbcity logo because the new bins which are green and yellow and the old yellow and green are both 240l but they replaced the red only in 2018 because it was a 120 and they upgraded to 140 thats why you see a lot of old recycling and green bins in bankstown

Interesting way of shaking the bin, same way as the old mj’s, didn’t think it was possible in the newer trucks with safety interlocks used. Are these bodies the 25m standard size, they look a little smaller.
@AussieGarbo
@AussieGarbo 3 года назад
I'm told when these first came in the shake ability of the up and down function was useless, which I'm thinking is to do with the sensor that slows arm movement at the top of the lift cycle. Next best option was the slide in and out, as you noted was a thing on the old MJs. The Richards equipment is a bit different when it comes to safety interlocks, there actually is no interlock related to slide extension and lifter raise/lower... so you can potentially empty a bin all over the road, the sensors won't save you haha I understand this is the new 25m standard size... a little less length, but a touch more height, so benefit of a shorter wheelbase.

I plan to get something eventually, but got no idea when mate. I was originally just aiming to catch a new big yellow truck, but they've got a different body design out there now so maybe I'll get one of each to put in a single video.

Yes correct, the Randwick trucks are based at Peakhurst, the Ashfield trucks park there as well... Cleanaway has operated out of that site for over 20 years now.

Apologies for not commenting straight away on the video, as sometimes it is nice to get in nice and early and kick the show off in the comments on a new upload on RU-vid, but other times it’s also ok to take time to write a reply. =) 0:00 why not kick the video off, cleverly showing the truck appear from behind a white van, and the first thing that you see is the signage on the Volvo Fe JJRE Model unit #2024. Great signage, something a bit out of normality, something modern day like. May I also add, I swear that must be still one of those “old fashioned” early cameras that you are using, that perhaps came from the early 2000’s or 90’s as I swear that Volvo just does sound louder, more appealing to the audience aye. 0:52 The problem with nature vs a human and truck machinery haha but you can easily quite see there the very real possibility if greenwaste/garden waste/F.O.G.O./vegetation/greens/organics/organic material(s) are not placed correctly in the bin, I was just waiting for something funny to happen on camera with either the green 240L bin and or its contents to be sent flying over the hopper, hasn’t been the first time on rare occasions filmed that it has occurred though! 😂🤣👊 1:05 and if that wasn’t enough of an entertaining few seconds start for the second clip, then to put the icing on the cake, not one but two absolute BEAUTIFUL timed “scoops n' goes” from ‘SitaEnvironmental’, again I swear the psychology behind, if it’s one of our own🇦🇺 behind the wheel, it gives the perception that it feels so much easier to watch the video, too, I’m sure you could relate here Mitch ;P. 3:20 Some interesting clattering going on with the arm trying to shake the hell out of organics stuck in the bin, but then this stereotype is redeemed just a couple of seconds later on the very next bin, well done to the driver, as even though it looked mostly dry greenwaste with no moisture involved while those pile of sticks sat in the bin over the fortnight, it just fell out crisp and clean and slick way, you could just tell 5:05 Just how difficult sometimes can it be to swing around in a cul-de-sac and simply operate? I need say no more into this introduction here, that’s why it’s safer to swing past first, then reverse back and position the truck so much more efficiently closer then otherwise if you had’ve attempted by swing around in one go, operating and moving on down the road into the next street. 9:05 just another really good example of a nice camera shot angle you captured in the moment, sunrise is a nice time of day, only if you can cleverly work out how to block out unwanted sunlight. I mean, after all, where is a human version of a ‘visor’ when you need one the most at that time of day ;-). Last thing I wanna say now is that looking back at what I wrote, gee whiz wow when you do really put in the time and effort in order to accomplish something, you truly do get the success and that source of satisfaction when a huge big grin and smile is written all over one of your average but more loyal and respectful viewers in the way that we give our best attempt to read into your mind and how you would like things through your eyes and your shoes to be. Thankyou, Australian Iconic legend enthusiast who has been 14years and over & beyond in the making here both online in the RU-vid community and your own personal experiences throughout your day to day life. Regards, Josh / BrissyGarbo19 ❤️👏🙌🤝👍👊🤛

No need to apologise for when you're commenting, there's no deadline! I was hesitant to use that clip I did at the start, but it was the only one I had which provided a proper entrance into view shot. My camera I got in 2008, so it is a bit old, but it's not 90s kinda old. Yes definitely a different appeal watching "one of our own" in the video, an easy watch for sure, especially after having a chat with him and seeing he has picked up the ability to drive one of these real well. Bit of a different shake method at play here so a bit of a different sound created, I'm told the regular up/down with the arm shake style is ineffective with these new trucks. As far as cul-de-sacs go, that extra manoeuvre or two to get the truck closer to the bins and positioned at a better angle saves a great deal of stuffing around and time instead of aiming for all the bins in fewer turns. I plan to either video a truck first thing in the morning when the sun is still down or later on when the sun is up high, sunrise/sunset when the rays are shining low through trees or over houses can prove troublesome when catching clean shots. The third longer clip in this video was sort of borderline of not working out, but the colour and image was in good focus considering the truck was half shade and half sunlight, worked out nicely the sunlight lit up the lifter and hopper area too so you could see the material falling out in that 4 bin line up. You sure made it clear you watched the video thoroughly via your comment, I think this comment is maybe one of a kind, it's actually maybe even overly detailed and too specific haha Thanks for typing something decent anyway!

@@AussieGarbo Well Mitch, to be honest, most of the time on every second Sunday (which seems to be your usual upload schedule) afternoon, evening or night I see and watch your videos pretty much straightaway, but as you've said I try to avoid commenting just for the sake of it, as just like you and others have said it the past (and I couldn't agree more) genuine and loyal viewers of channels they've subscribed to feel under no obligation to type 🤬 [insert expletive here] for the pointless meaningless sake of it. So I'm glad you got my point in my above comment from a few weeks ago that I reckon I did a decent job of making it clear that I had watched the production publication from start, to end ;). In the past, I had thought that how cool would it be if I could be the first one to watch and comment on one of your videos seconds/minutes after it went live, but recent times in your Junee Organics and Gundagai Recycling videos have shown and told me otherwise, "Josh, you've seen what has happened when others have commented straightaway, whatever you decide to act on do not go down that dreadful dark path and tick Mitch off, the last thing you wanna do is be known for in Mitch's bad books". Now look, the way you have structured your response back to me, makes me think that you're a little bit taken aback from my latest comment on one of your uploads; and in fact, that's okay as why would you not be??? Because how on earth, could and would someone, who was "playing" a very different character, behaviour and lifestyle online even just two years ago who was naive, and a little bit immature at times [later have now matured somewhat better nowadays btw], drastically change the way of his thinking style and patterns when writing out the descriptions of today =). Not overly long ago, it finally 'clicked' with me, why it is the way to be that you put the effort and time in, to not only on your videos, but also the descriptions to go with them. I've learned "AussieGarbo/Mitch language", and I must say I like it and am proud of myself for the change, and of course your professional reputation you have on social media as well too :D Cheers for your reply back, love reading your comments and responses, it means the world to me when someone (I must admit and acknowledge I have in the past, currently at present, and continue to do so idolise) goes out of their way to reply back me, you just made my day!! 😊🙌 I hope in the end you appreciated reading, seeing and viewing a different side of me; my first real very decent comment on one of your videos here on RU-vid, and just simply trying to maintain and continue the good relationships we have. Thanks legend. 🤝

Highly unlikely that I will... I barely like travelling for the trucks around Sydney as it is, nor am I overly happy going around NSW, so definitely not keen on interstate anymore. In the past I considered going to all the capital cities around Australia, but things change!

did Bankstown have Dennis eagles before the Volvos or were they still the blue Superior Pak 2007 Acco's? because it sounded like it was 2007 Acco sometimes and sometimes it sounded like a Dennis so did they have both the 2007 superior Pak and the Dennis eagle? earlier like in 2020 before the Volvo trucks came

Cleanaway was running old Parramatta Dennis side loaders before these Volvos started, the three 2007 ACCOs became spare trucks for the Peakhurst depot.
