Ya main cooling problem at high speeds is some noddy has installed ya radiator cooling fan back to front its pushing air not drawing it 😅 .and that noise is probably the fan hitting the radiator cause its back to front 😮and its got a turbo 👍 , install an intercooler and put the aircon back in her yourl be right and comfy and get a proper tune yourl get more power out off her its a Toyota mate the best 😊and that model hilux is probably the most reliable hilux ever built that gave them the unbreakable icon 👍 if you need money sell that 3 and a 1/2 grand drone 😳

We've done the trip now 2 times now & for most of the journey, I was biting my nails in fear we'd break down. Kind regards from Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺

I haven't let it bring me down. I made it here safely luckily. I'll get the car repaired when I can afford it. I'm just happy to be here 👍

Those 12v cooler boxes use massive amounts of power no wonder your batteries went flat if you left it on all night

I've had it in the car for over 5 years but never actually used it. I just used it as a center console, armrest & drink holder lol. Definitely won't be using it again to keep anything cool if I stop anywhere overnight 🤣

Thanks mate 👍 luckily I made it but I still haven't been able to get the car looked at. Hopefully I'll get it done soon once I save up enough

From the noise and vibrations I'm guessing water pump/fan/fanbelt. Hope it all goes well for you Paul

Thanks mate 👍 it's strange I've had all that stuff replaced recently. I try and keep the car as maintained as I can

I took the air-conditioning cooler out of my 1997 hilux never over heated again the little corner windows blew enough air.

Only use cooler box when driving they not thermo controlled like the real fridges , the thing will run flat out till the battery dies , make sure it turns off when you turn the ignition off to easy then fail safe 😉

Least you're in WA now, just hope it's an easy fix and not a major one. Not sure but has the cluch on the fan been serviced, Unless its the injectors or something.
@Campingdownunder
@Campingdownunder 11 месяцев назад
Yeah mate it's all been replaced. It's still making noises occasionally but I'm just putting up with it until I can get it looked at. I'm hopeless at anything mechanical so I pay other people to fix it 🤣

Just hoping nots nothing major though and easy fix. but for an 89 Hilux to last that long is Truley well looked after.@@Campingdownunder

Do you have power steering? If so check the pump pully, For the random overheating sounds like pump timing may be too retarded, retarding it helps build boost quicker but will give higher egt and possible overheating issues, or the viscous fluid in the fan may be a little low, can be topped up. Unless its spanking new they don't get much more reliable then an old ln106
@Campingdownunder
@Campingdownunder 11 месяцев назад
I've replaced everything possible that can cause overheating. It's really frustrating. But I've been putting up with it for over 5 years now. Only 2 more to go 🤣
@Bigcountry_littlelegs
@Bigcountry_littlelegs 10 месяцев назад
@Campingdownunder then the pump timing is most likely culprit not a real hard job and can get tools off ebay cheap,

I have a 1989LN106 dual cab and I turboed it and it got hot enough to open the radiator cap and expel a load of coolant, and I measured the sump temperature wi h was 118 degrees Celsius, so I installed a oil cooler fed from a slice fitted under the oil filter, cooler was 8 row high, oil temps dropped to 96 and the engine stopped expelling coolant , with a standard non power steering radiator, bottom pipe is different, I think because of the turbo the oil is hotter a than the coolant and gives heat to the coolant through the block mounted factory cooler a d the cooling system can't cope

@lyonsy143 it mainly overheats with a head wind or up big hills. The old girl wasn't designed to carry this much weight lol. I'd love to get a jack off canopy in the future so at least at camp I can unload the weight & even during the week getting to work have a much lighter car. I can only dream 🤣
