Great vid. That trail is pretty sick. Surprised by the weight of the zipps. Hefty.

I was a little surprised too. I would imagine if you took the TyreWiz off, they'd be in the 1800-1900g range. Love bobsled. It's such a fun trail.

I have set of zipp wheels with i9 hydra hub. I like them for a lot of loose chuncky descending, but have definitely felt how dull and slow they are, which drives me a little nuts. I just ordered a set of Enve m630s. I'm excited to see the difference. IYO, out of those two wheels, what would you ride in Sedona? I'll likely take both but I have a feeling the zipp might be better in the off camber rocks and tech. Thoughts? Thanks and great videos. That bobsled trail looks great! I'll need to get over to SLC.

I think the Zipps would do well out there. Sedona is slow, awkward and off camber with little to no sustained speed or berms. I don’t think you’ll notice many drawbacks to the zipps.

I have a tallboy 4 that my local shop built for me. I wanted to put SC reserves on it, but they were backordered and the owner (who I trust greatly and still trust) sold me on the zipp motos instead. I have them laced to dt350s. My tallboy feels great descending, but is sluggish on climbs and xc rides. It feels like it takes more energy than it should to keep it rolling. I’m wondering how much of that is just the character of the bike, or if the zipps are affecting the ride that much? Any thoughts? Thanks!

The Tallboy isn’t the most energetic climber. It does well enough but it tends to sit a little deeper in the travel. I’ve found that running lighter tires does a lot for making it climb faster. The stock Minions are overkill for that bike in my opinion.

@@bikersedge I've been running the official "downcountry" dissector/rekon combo. Definitely better than minions.

I didn’t feel like the Zipp wheels were all that slow. They are pretty heavy but I don’t think they’d have that big of an effect.

Great video... as usual. I have a 2020 Orbea Occam m30 with the 140mm fork. What i ride regularity is similar to what you’re showing in these vids... Denver Front range trails and Fruita/Grand Junction/Moab. If i had $2000 to spend... would my money be better spent buying better wheels than the M1900s, maybe the Zipp Moto, or upgrading to a Revel Rascal with alloy wheels? I love moderate tech climbs, moderate fast descents through rock gardens, 1 - 2 foot drops, that sort of thing. Just hypothetical ... the old “upgrade components vs upgrade bike”. Pretty sure i could sell my Occam for around $3k and add $2500 - $3k to get a Rascal... maybe.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I don’t necessarily see the Rascal as an upgrade, just something different. I think if I were in your shoes, I’d buy a 150 air spring for the fork. I was just in Grand Junction and the Occam would be great there with the longer fork. I’d also look at picking up a carbon wheelset like the Enve AM30, Santa Cruz Reserves or i9 S series wheels. You’ll come in under the $2k mark.

Thanks. Funny you should mention the 150 mm air spring... i have one sitting on my tool bench.. waiting for the Fox fork oil and 26mm socket to do the upgrade. :).

@@bikersedge I will look at those wheel sets when i have the dish to spare. :). Thanks for answering my hypothetical question! I always value your opinion... you seem less biased to brand than many people on RU-vid. And you were spot on with your review of the Occam.

Happy to help. Let me know how the 150 fork goes. I think the bike is waaay better with it.

@@bikersedge When you were in Grand Junction, did you ride Palisade Rim? Much of it is fairly new.. Wished I’d had a 150mm fork!! If you didn’t get a chance, that trail is awesome and we only saw two other bikers over a 2 hour period. Awesome trail.. as good as Lunch Loops, Gunny, Holy Cross, but different.

definetly terrain that suits a stiffer carbon wheel, i think on more natural rough tracks the zipp may show better speed
@bikersedge
@bikersedge Год назад
In a straight line over rocks maybe. Any sort of corners the flex is going to cause some problems I think. The upper section of this trail is rough, natural, chattery, fast and narrow. I’d take the stiffer wheels all day even there.
@alexkeyes1706
@alexkeyes1706 Год назад
Ahh gotcha, the DH in the video looks more like a flow trail didnt realize there was an upper section. What do you think about compliant front wheel and stiffer rear
@bikersedge
@bikersedge Год назад
@@alexkeyes1706 GoPro effect is real. The bottom and middle sections are flatter and smoother for sure though. I like the thought of tuned wheels. The crankbrothers would be nice to try.
