Carlos Ortiz was a great champion and very smart fighter. He uses his left jab and had a magnificent right cross and left hook. He was very strong inside and used his upper body strength very well. Battling Torres was a good fighter and he was undefeated at the time with a 32-0, 24KOs record. But, Ortiz was much more seasoned professional. Torres was just only 19 years old. I think that it was a big mistake to put him in the ring with a guy of Ortiz's caliber. He should have waited at least 2 or 3 more years to develop his skills and then, fight for the world championship in which I don't have a doubt that he would have become world champion.
Very true, Elmer. Our very own World Jr.Ligbtweight Titlist Flash Elorde challenged bim twice and lost via KO in tbe 2nd fight!!! Ortjiz was simply too big and powerful for bim!!
Entertaining fight with a high work-rate from both. One has to admire the great technique of Ortiz. Torres had some technical flaws and Ortiz fought him at the right time. Good management decision.
