The more I hear about the Castlevania Lore, the more I'm impressed with how the producers of the show have managed to add weight to certain items such as this The music, Trevor's shock and awe, even the curiosity he had before seeing it, tells a lot about its importance, and it adds wonder to what else his renowned family may have in store
@@tylermcneeley3136idk about that, because dracula reincarnates at least once every century in the lore. The Belmonts without the Vampire Killer whip(the Morning Star) would never be able to defeat him, so it’s important to not lose it lol.
@@sonhoang_69 it's a bit of a yes and a bit of a no. since there are very few people who had managed defeated Dracula without the whip. among them is Alucard who had to kill him a second time in SOTN. then Hector from Curse of Darkness which takes place some years after Castlevania 3 which is netflix's castlevania. third is Shanoa from order of Ecclesia which takes place atleast a decade or so after SOTN. Honorable mentions to Cornel a werewolf from the N64 castlevania legacy of darkness.
Trevor: Using a knife to break open the lock instead of picking it or searching fruitlessly for the key. The magic guarding the chest that holds his family's ancestral: "Yep, he's a Belmont alright."
Maybe the lock was just for show. There could easily have been an enchantment that made it so only a true blooded Belmont could open it. Sounds like something an old Belmont would do xD
Just imagine Trevor probably was raised hearing stories about the Morning Star and now, right in front of his eyes, one of the most precious treasures he could ever find The legendary weapon, right on his hands
The training he got in handling a whip was no doubt in preparation for one day being given the Morning Star. You can see him remembering the times of him learning weapons under his dad and other family members as he opens that chest and sees it. It's not just finding the Morning Star, but remembering happier times before the fall of the Belmonts.
@@samsonguy10k And now that trevor is equipped with the legendary morning star whose true name spells doom for all those that dwell in the night the vampire killer he shall full fill his ancestors vow to hunt the night ( Picture this read with Zobeks voice from the lords of shadow games).
Now that I look closely to the Morning Star, it resembles it's version of Simon's Quest. You know the whip is on fire, the whip here glows on burning heat when is about to hit the target
excuse me its clearly a pork chop, sure it looks like, tastes like, smells like, and has the same weight and consistency of a roasted chicken but the manual is NEVER wrong.
I love how every time Trevor gets a weapon he geeks out about it and tells its lore, combine that with him finding the Morning Star behind a hidden wall and you get a good adaptation of that moment in a videogame when the player finds a new weapon.
He's not really the black sheep at all, he's just the last Belmont, downtrodden and hated for his dead family line. In the intro he sees his family estate burned down, and the family was excommunicated and exiled. He is resentful, but he is good. And he is proud of being a Belmont. And of course, without him, the family would be gone and all of humanity would be doomed.
And barely anybody noticed but I did. As well as you did probably. At the end of the battle as alucard struck the stake through Dracula, Trevor used Leons sword to cut his head off. Killed by his best friend's sword. Indirectly Leon fulfilled the promise.
@@amongallothers it wasn't Leon's sword, was it? I believe it was Alucar's sword because when Alucard was pushing the fire ball from Dracula, he loses the sword, that's the reason they get into a punch/flight fight. Trevor picks the sword up and after seeing the fire hole he's like "nope, we have to take the long way".
0:33 this. This is what I love in any animation. These little things that makes you immersed and hold reality of what's happening on the screen. If you step on a book, you will fumble. They didn't have to animate this yet they did, and I love it.
There is an extra special layer to the scene not many people realise. Not only was the chest hidden behind a wall, but it was also a RED chest, the kind that held the best most important gear, but it was also a SEALED CHEST that can only be opened by a specific person [in this case a Belmont]
With tactical nuclear shells, to be used on the more powerful vampires. The regular incendiary/high explosive shells are more than enough for most encounters
I find it cool that when he broke the lock it was almost like a magical seal activated to prevent common Thieves from stealing it. Only when Trevor touched the chest did the seal deactivate allowing him to claim the Morning Star.
my guess was that it was an anti scrying seal, to prevent vampires that want it destroyed from finding it. i imagen that somewhere in the world an old vampire was sitting at his desk when the scrying spell went of saying its suddenly appeared along with "aquired by Trevor Belmont" and just went "well shit"
Behold young Belmont. This is the weapon that started your family's legacy. This weapon is the physical embodiment of your Ancestor's promise to his beloved. A promise to spare those of a cruel fate to haunt the night against their will as she was. She shall forever watch over her beloved's descendants as they hunt the night. It is your legacy that you will hand down to your descendants and they will hand down to their descendants forevermore.
Soul Semblance It was whip made from alchemy; however it was incomplete. As it couldn’t harm a vampire lord. In order to complete the whip; it needs a willing tainted soul. Thus Leon Belmont unwillingly sacrifices his lover. Who was tainted, yet willing sacrifice herself for the whip. Thus the whip becomes the morning star (vampire killer)
The whip of alchemy becomes the vampire killer. The morning star is the upgraded version of the vampire killer. It just makes more sense for them to be separate things in the show.
It may not be referred directly as the true Vampire Killer, but we know that is the complete bane of all darkness, and the most representative element of the Belmont family.
Considering how afraid the vampires were, how they reacted by instinct and natural fear to the morning star when they raid the castle, and how it managed to even drop dracula to a knee after being unflinched by their attacks, sypha should say sorry for calling the morning star ugly
I love how happy he is about it. It's so many things to him... - A validation of the whip, which is an extension of Trevor's body. - A family heirloom, saying to him "you're not alone in this fight. Here lie the will of every Belmont since Leon. Your fight is our fight too." - A blessing. A ray of hope in face of the scariest enemies he's yet to face. He still doubts himself. He's still not confident that they can bring down Dracula. But the flame in him grows ever brighter, and this moment gives such a flash of light as to almost make one cry.
This is why voice direction is so important. You can't just tell an actor "sound excited". Too many english anime dubbing studios just phone in every scene and you get the impression that the actors aren't given any context at all. Here it feels like the actors had the full context to work with.
"this whip, and my kinsmen will destroy you someday, from this day on, the belmont clan will hunt tbe night" Leon Belmont-Lament of innocence I think the old man would be proud at this
I was so excited watching this scene. It feels like you are reunited with a long lost friend from high school, trying to help you with life's problems. In Trevor's case he reconnects with the weapon to banish evil hidden from him for ages!
I was about to point out Arthur received Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake, but it turns out in some Arthurian legend Excalibur and the sword in the stone are the same.
morning star is consider one of the most powerful tools in the Belmont family history, it more powerful then the stander whip we see Trevor use and for those who know the history behind this weapons it also has a sad story.
@@OPequeNiNo1 i dont play but i heard that the morning star is a weapon infused with dracula or some other powerfull vampires (pretty sure hes name was walter) and leons beloveds soul or am i wrong?
The morning star is for the stake of the story vampire killer so with Leon being in the painting we can make the logical conclusion that their history is at least similar
Does this mean the Vampire Killer is the Morning Star then? All I remember is Leon getting the eventual Vampire Killer from Ronaldo and Leon mercy killing Sara to bind her soul to it. I always had the impression that Trevor was already carrying the Vampire Killer with the normal whip he had before.
@@zeterzero4356 No the leather whip was the commissioned weapon and the morning star is the vampire killer in alot of the older games the ultimate form of the vampire killer was the morning star with it appearing as the leather whip at times when not wielded by a main family Belmont case in point most of the castlevania's after symphony of the night it also appears as the leather whip when Dracula himself is not at his strongest due to it being made from alchemy the whole equivalent exchange thing applies is the reason why i always thought.
@@zeterzero4356 Indeed, it's likely alchemy in the games. As for the netflix series, I'd imagine, though don't take my word as canonical, it'll be established that the Morning Star is the Vampire Killer, the 'head' containing the soul, thus why it heats up when enroute to a demon's chest, and the leather whip is a sort of training whip for the Belmonts until the Morning Star is passed down. I don't think the leather whip was ever actually established to be the Vampire Killer in the Netflix series, and it combines elements majorly from the NES trilogy (the entire plot and cast), the PS2 games, and the Rondo of Blood/Symphony of the Night era (you don't get whip upgrades in Rondo of Blood: Richter starts out with the chain whip. The only time it's depicted as leather is in the Dracula X Chronicles remake on PSP.) for the narrative. Since Rondo of Blood has the Vampire Killer be the chain, and every other game upgrades the Vampire Killer *into* the chain, as well as providing a flaming whip attack when there's no subweapons (the head heating up?), I imagine they're taking the Vampire Killers design primarily from Rondo of Blood.
Kinda odd that they gave the Whip one of it's nicknames instead of it's true name. While yes it's called the Morning Star, it went by other names too. The Alchemy Whip, the Combat Cross, the Dark Whip, it was even once named after the beloved lost soul that fused with it long ago, "Sara". But we all know it's true name: the Vampire Killer.
Imagining you are watching a Zelda series, and then Link find a sword in the stone and then he says: 'The Excalibur'. Or a God of War series and Ares gives Kratos the Blades of War. Thats the feeling this scene passes to me.
@@funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong I'm afraid that's the point. In this analogy, calling it the Excalibur is calling it the Morningstar, whereas calling it the Master Sword is calling it the Vampire Killer.
@@protatype7487 Except the Morning Star _is_ the Vampire Killer in the games, albeit the most upgraded version specifically. By contrast, Excalibur and the Master Sword are literally totally separate weapons, from totally separate universes.
I was watching this part with my then gf and I was going nuts. When Trevor pulls the chest out of its hiding, I was literally screaming. She asked me "but what is it?! A treasure or something?", and I couldn't articulate my excitement. "It's the Vampire Killer! The Belmont's sacred weapon! I... I can't..." She didn't get it, and I started to shed tears (manly tears, of course) of pure joy. Then Trevor takes the whip, and she then realizes how much of a big deal it was. I cannot fully describe my feelings, never have I experienced such love for a series with details like this has.
@@OPequeNiNo1 I can't believe how unbelievably petty this is. Besides the overly dramatic reaction, Morning Star is what the highest form of Vampire Killer is often called so it follows the canon and I'm not sure what your complaint could be founded on.
Kudos to the production team, animators, writers, and voice actors of this series. Thanks Netflix for bringing castlevania alive. Maybe this will inspire a movie one day.
came here after watching trevor drop the morning star while fighting death, I love how both scenes use the same tune but arranged differently. the version against death is very epic
This is the only scene in the entire show where Trevor acts like this, every other time he finds a weapon, no matter how crazy it is, he never gets quite this way. Nice touch and great job by the VA and animators to tell us about Trevor without explicitly saying anything.
@@Boosttackle sypha: You're eating a piece of meat from the wall?! Hey Alucard guess what.... *Alucard walks by them with a hamburger and soda* Sypha: Alucard, what is that? Alucard: Oh I found a chest of these weird looking paper slips and poof a full corse meal from the 20th century! Yea oddly enough I ended up using a few, got a table set up if you want some. *Camara plans to a table with the chest of meal tickets with plates of food*
I loved when he pointed out his tree. I had one that was hollowed out in front of the house. It was my fort when I could fit in there. It’s gone now. It was alive when we moved I was 3 and could still remember it. 30 some years later. That scene made me cry
I just love that Richard Armitage is the VA for Trevor, that itself made me like the show from the jump. Everytime he speaks it takes me back to when he played the homie Thorin in the hobbit movies 😎
The Morning Star The weaponry gift of the Belmont Legacy Hunter as the Witcher, Destroyer as a God of War, and a pure magical Legendary weapon of World of Warcraft.
I turned into a wolf and ran as fast as I could into the bottom step of a staircase , when I woke there was a whole cooked turkey where I thought I died
I like to imagine that the glow of the chest was some sort of sealing or protection spell that would only allow a Belmont to open it even if they got rid of the lock, like a way of saying "this is the weapon of a Belmont, now it's yours"
The entire time I watched Season 1 of Castlevania: Nocturne, I was thinking to myself "where is the Morningstar?" It would've made so many of the fights so much easier, to be honest.
"I don't believe they hid it. It's the Morning Star." Spoiler: I felt great sadness when Trevor throw the Morning Star away. I know he had to use the knife to kill the Death, but this weapon was passed down through generations of Belmont bloodline. I hope that he had reclaimed it after Death's defeat and passed it to his son to continue to legacy of the family who's been fighting and dying through centuries to protect people from the creatures of the night.
I wonder if the Morningstar will make its way into castlevania nocturne. It should, it’s the legendary vampire killer, far more powerful than other consecrated whips
