Karl K and also reduce wear to the engine. By constantly cranking like that without a sniff to get it firing all the guy is doing is washing the oil coating off the liners from the raw diesel. Causing excessive wear and scoring to the liners, less compression making it harder to start in the future

@@TugboatMatt you are right on the engine wear cooey. I am very careful using ether because of possible damage but continue to crank like this and for sure the wear is bad!

We had run out of ether, but decided to see if it could start on its own.

There was a broken water line, it was only 1/4 inch. I think it was there to help avoid air blocking the water system. It was an easy fix.

That's just the shit diagnostics us mechanics have to put up with. That's why we never believe a word a customer says about a problem with their vehicle. I was going to comment with a joke about the 'slight' coolant leak but then found your imbecilic comment. Top hose is missing - which for CLARITY is NOT at the 'lower front' - the clue is in the name: 'top hose' as to where the hose is - or at least should be. :)

@@blitzz7316 You don't get much of a leak out of a hole like that after the first 10 seconds. Did they say if it just leaked either going downhill or only when braking, perhaps.

@@blitzz7316 It's a matter of clearly not understanding. I recently looked at info on nebulisers - and at one point looked at wikipedia. They'd categorised them as either electric or (ultra)sonic (I think) but all the ones I've seen were pneumatic. No mention of those. Turned out they included pneumatic ones but as they were fed from a compressor, classed them as electric ! I rearranged the page - as the pneumatic ones I've seen didn't use a compressor but were driven by pressurised gas (from a bottle or tank). Years ago, at school one of my teachers claimed steam engines were 'heat engines'. Again, they're not - they just rely on gas pressure to run - although the pressure is generated by heating water. The actual engine would run just as well on air - and model steam engines often do !

Most industrial engines push the air through the rad. When it is mounted in a building there would be a shuttered opening for the hot air to leave the room.

It still starts no problem. We are having a hard time getting the generator to make power.

@@progressivedynamicsolution1769 Speed was too slow in that clip. My guess would be a little over 1500 rpm needed - for one. Daft as it may seem, have you tried connecting it to another power supply ? Quite possibly another generator could be a good idea rather than mains supply. It might only need a quick flash from another power source to generate a bit of magnetism in the generator to get it excited. Some big generators used to have a small 'exciter' generator on them - with permanent magnets to provide a little power to the main magnets - once it generates a little to power the main magnets, it'd be fine - if that's what the issue is. Same problem with car alternators not connected to a battery ! They won't just magically provide power when spun. Dynamos will.

@@millomweb yes, that's what we are thinking. We need to excite the permanent magnets to begin the process. Thanks for the comment.

@@proehm it has a dc exciter built onto the end of the Kato generator. We just couldn't get it to work.

I bet the starter motor & battery cables was fairly warm to the touch afterwards! You can tell I'm an auto-electrician! Is the generator producing electricity now please? @@matthewvwuk We haven't got the generator making power yet. The engine doesn't have an alternator. Normally, an AC battery charger is plugged into the generator to charge the batteries. And yes, they were drained after this startup.

@@adik9441 yes, I understand. But this engine was re-ringed about 7 years ago and hasn't run much since. We are confident we can get it running.
