That’s interesting I just bought a copy of this today!! I bought because another RU-vidr said it was great! The channel is the Religious Hippie her book reviews are really good! I found her one day when I was looking up Catholic book reviews.
i actually have the Theological Forum daily missal. it’s very chunky to take to mass, but it’s totally worth it because at the end of the missal , it actually contains prayers, although this version is very chunky cause it has more prayers. i’ve actually bought this prayer book in spanish for my mother and it’s really good. the spanish missal is good too, they sell it as well
Hiya! As an alternate viewpoint - I have the Handbook of Prayers as published in the UK published by the Catholic Truth Society (CTS Books) and while there is some bits taken out (we don't have an extended reflection on the Beatitudes, just the list, for example), we DO have a section for Morning and Evening prayer which includes the canticles, as well as a couple of extra psalms to help us in prayer :) an interesting substitution, being in the UK - instead of the Litany to Our Lady of Guadalupe, we have one to Our Lady of Walsingham :D Hope that helps!
My one complaint about the eighth edition is the absence of the Liturgy of the Hours for morning and evening prayer and psalm 94 (95) that is in the seventh edition. A couple of minor omissions are the Blessing and Imposition with the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and the Blessing of Thanksgiving at Meals. However, the additions of The Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the section of Novenas in the eighth addition are nice. The other 20 additions in the section on How to be a better Catholic, I am sure are relevant for guidance and instruction. But, if they are going to make that many additions, why not just keep the Liturgy of the Hours as well? Makes me wish I could cut and paste the two together.
Hi, thank you for reviewing this book. I looked your review about Saint Gregory Prayers Book intended for English Patrimony. Does "Handbook of Prayers" provide a prayer of devotion for the church liturgical year and week as in Saint Gregory Prayer book? Thank you
I'm doing what I can do to make you rich. I had already bought a box of book darts from your link, and just yesterday arrived my copy of Handbook of Prayers from your link. I have avoided anything smelling of the novus ordo for years now. So far I'm unimpressed by the catechetical parts, but it's an inexpensive way to have the basic 3rd edition of the Roman Missal.
Good question. Several things: you made it seem like a good resource; the Roman Catholic Church is having a lot of troubles right now, and I want to be supportive rather than disruptive; perhaps my bishop four generations ago who split from the Pople after Vatican I was wrong, and I should reconsider that decision and patrimony.
This does seem to be a decent prayer book. I took the opinion that I was better off writing down each prayer that I needed/wanted in a pocket size memo book. I was going to do a simplified version of the divine office, but I don’t think it is worth the trouble with what is available today.
@@ConvincedCatholicism Thanks for the reply. The previous version has 560 pages and new edition 600. I was wondering what the extra content was and would it be and would it be worth getting new edition over previous edition
