Celestion Vintage 30 and G12H-75 creamback are two great speakers, also great for mixing together. The Vintage 30 and H creamback are well suited tonally and for volume but also sufficiently different to offer great versatility live and in the studio. In this video we set both speakers directly against each other and then mix them through several style, allowing you to hear what each speaker is doing under similar circumstances.
To do this we recorded both speakers in an identical 1x12 setup, same mics, mic placements, amps and settings by re-amping the same scenario through several different styles.
We love to hear your thoughts on anything speaker related, if you've used this pair before or the individual speakers, or if you have any suggestions please get in touch.

Creamback has the smooth full mids, but it did have that “removing a blanket” feel when switching to the V30s. I also noticed during the lead sections, that the V30 seemed to cut a bit more and have more top end clarity. In a mix, those fizzy mids seem to help. (It’s almost the same kind of fizz that SM57s add) Both are great sounds, thanks for another great demo!

The mid range on the Vintage 30 is what's made it popular. I hate their boost in 1-2khz range. I will never use one again but I wanted to find a Celestion that had good mids, more but tight bass, and not shrill highs and i landed on the Classic 80. I can't wait to try one or Zilla to post a comparison with it. From what i can hear, they have a sweet lead tone and tight bass response with none of the fizzyness around 1-2khz. These days i play Weber copies of Fane speakers and those sound great for me.

Multiple V30s can be harsh for a bright and middy amp, but the mix with the H creamback definitely allows for some balancd tone due to its warmth. Also the top end is not as spikey which allows for a more smooth tone.

Confirmation of the usual "glassy" V30 sound. Very nice in some modern distorted sounds, where needed mid-highs definition but maybe a bit harsh in Blues or Vintage(ish) styles. Thanks, Zilla guys !

Thanks as always, Zilla. Quite surprisingly I seem to like the V30 more on clean sounds and low gain, sounds sweeter and clearer than the Creamback to me. But as you wind up the gain from crunch to heavier distortion, the V30 is starting to sound like fizz city for me, whereas the Creamback retains its greenbacky character. They seem to pair very well however and the mix sounds like best of both worlds IMO.

The vintage 30 paired with the Creaback M65 is where it's at and many people are using that combo .For a long time Many were pairing the G12M25 greenback with the V30 which is a great combo and now many are using the G12M65 instead of the M25. The Vintage 30 paired with the G12M family is becoming a classic pairing in its own right. There has also been many who Paired with V30 with the G12H30 anniversary including Builders like Dr Z . Many of them have switched the using the Creamback H in place of the Anniversary H30. The Creamback H 75 I find to be much more vintage sounding compared to the H30 Anni . I have found the V30 and G12M65 cream to be the most versatile and musical combination of all the above mentioned combinations . A fat sounding combination . Lots of body and depth . A very wide and balanced sound. I love the upper mids of the V30 paired with the low mids and Of the M65 ..When you crank the Amp especially a Marshall through a 2 by 12 with with that Speaker combo it's like a kick to the guts . It even makes my DSL5CR sound huge without even having to engage the Deep Switch . On its own with just the internal open back 10 inch Cestion 10/30 the map is kind of underwhelming. It's boxy fizzy and excessively bright and the red Channel gets messy very quickly but with high Quality closed back cabs and high quality 12 inch speakers that anp improves in leaps and bounds and is a tone monster especially with 2 by 12s . I use it with various different speakers and cab combinations and oddly I have found I prefer it with higher power handling speakers like the Creamback M65 Creamback H75 the Standard production V30 and the Marshall spec version of the V30 the Marshall G12 Vintage . I also got to try it with V30/Heritage G1265 which aslo sounded great. I also use it with some lower power speakers like the G12H30 55Hz Heritage the Heritage G12H30 75hz and the G12H30 anniversary with The Heritage G12H30 75 Hz being my favorite low power speaker and the all sound great but in the case of the DSL 5 I like the Higher power Variants . Normally i prefer the low power variants . I thought with a 5 watt amp I would find the low power speakers more pleasing as they would get pushed harder but its not the case . When playing at low to moderate volume I actually use my low power speakers with like my 30 Watt speakers and 25s when I had them with 40 watt DSl as I found that to be a better sound when playing that amp a low volume.

@@adamwatson6916 The only problem with the 65's, though, is that they're too quiet (at 97dB's)! I was using V30's with G12T-75's, and I ran into that problem. That 3 dB's makes a substantial difference. I finally mixed the V30's with the H75's, and hoooooly shite! It's perfect! Plus - the H75's just have a lot better tone than the G12T's as well.

V30 has a terrible spike around 1khz. The one I had made my OR50 sound horrid. I switched it out with a Weber and didn’t look back. I am thinking of the G12H though as it’s been recommended. Apparently vintage Matamps and Oranges had either Fanes or G12H’s. V30 is dog shit. I think it’s voiced to sound good in a guitar shop at low volume just to trick you into buying it.

Could you set the order to be speaker A, speaker B then mix A&B in future videos - that way you can hear the individual speaker tones and mix in relation to each other on the same style? Having the mix at the end makes it difficult to hear what each speaker is bringing to the mix sound. Am enjoying these comparisons - learning alot! Thanks.

I’ve always heard V30s described as harsh, which I kinda get, but they offer so much clarity that I fell in love with them the first time I tried them. Well worn in V30s lose a bit of harsh brittleness off the top end, but I’ve always been curious how much, because isolated out other speakers sound so much smoother and chunkier.

Hi chaps. I've been watching loads of the comparison videos and they're great. Any chance you could do a shootout between G12H-30 Greenback (55hz and 75hz) and the G12H-75 Creamback? Please show how they mix with V30s and explain the differences between both and the Anniversary and Heritage models of the same name. Basically anything with the H magnet/100db so they don't overpower each other when combined in a cab would be a great help. Also, hearing them at high and lower volume would be a good comparison. I own a Super Fatboy loaded with V30s currently but am looking to switch one V30 out. I'd also look to do the same in my 4x12 cabs (Victory and Marshall) in an X pattern if it's a success.
