what causes these generators to stall or run rough when the choke is pushed in after starting and proper warmup? Ours runs ok with the choke all the way out in starting position, but stalls if pushed in

Just wondering how thick the air filter is. My 2500 watt was missing the air filter and champion is out. I want to buy something generic and cut it to fit

What do you recommend doing for long term storage? Drain the gas or the additive?

Everything he said…. Good job. That’s normally for the long term storage of 6 months and more give or take. If you know your going to use it with in 6-8 months I would drain carb but run a fuel additive or conditioner, run for a fuel mins then drain. Typically not a bad idea as well to fully top off fuel tank to prevent moisture build up in the fuel tank. If doing the long term storage for a year or more I would just drain the tank and run till empty, then drain float bowl to make sure it’s fully empty. But always run a conditioner or additive of choice no matter what. That way if it sits for a while and you forgot this will help with preventing the inevitable…lol

I say pending conditions and temp sometimes as low as 30 hrs and it’s running hard in hot temps. But 50 is kinda the standard on the little gens because they hold .45 quarts of oil. So not much of a oil reservoir. So the worse the conditions and usage the sooner I would change it.

After the 5 hours break in period, oil had a lot of metal glitter. Going to do the second oil change again at 5 hours, no way I'm going to way 50 hours as in the manual. Also, I could only get 300 ml of oil in this engine (0.3 qts) - unit perfectly level, oil up to the last two threads of the hole. Not sure why manual says 400ml ?

The meter glitter is probably the assembly grease. They all look like that. I change after one hour then another about 5 or 10 hrs out then 50 ish or so depending on conditions

I typically tell people if not buying a Honda or Yamaha then the next best brand would be champion. But yes so many companies coming with new gens all the time. And a lot are made in same factories.

Depends, hot and stressful maybe 40, 50 isn’t bad under medium and heavy loads and high heat conditions. 100hr in low loads and cooler conditions is perfectly find

You can use either. 10-30 or 5-30 if say your in colder climates and want a broader range of protection. Either will work for full time use. 👍🏼

I bought one of these and it consumes alot of oil. Im guessing every 10h I need to refil oil becuse it stops from low oil level.. Anyone have the same issue? Im using the recommended 10w30

I have heard this before but in a different brand. It’s possible there could be premature wear causing the burning oil. Unless you find a leak somewhere. I would move to a straight 30w oil and see what happens.

These are actually really good generators. I have close to 1000 hours on ours. The weak points of these are the recoil starter assembly and the crankcase gasket. The crankcase gaskets are not always aligned properly from the factory and it will leak oil. Champion sent me a new recoil at no charge and the gasket I repaired because of wait time for a new one. I'd buy another of these though.

It was a good unit when I had it. And yes very slight oil leak. But good unit, light and did what it needed to do.

I honestly dont know If they have the gaskets for that unit. Champion and eBay is your best bet. If not and you want to use a gasket maker, check out “Right Stuff” its like $20 a can but In use it for a ton of stuff and impressed every time.

Hello there i about to do oil change my 2500 champion inverter generator and i clicked your’s. Thankx its so very informative by some bunos tricks on how to give complete care for the unit. I just zoomed in to figure out what exactly oil you used and i discovered its dexos and I thought dexos ones were only for some engines(GM/Chevy ones?) Atleast i saved some $$ by using those left over dexos1 at my garage

It’s basically a lawn mower engine. Just change it frequently and that will be good enough

Could you give specifically how much oil out of a quart goes into the engine? .. if the oil is showing at the bottom threads when sitting level.... That should be enough?

Yes sitting level bottom or mid way up threads is enough which is about .4 of a quart.
