For those that saw my review of the Champion 2000 watt inverter generator (link in the video) you know it needs to be serviced after 50 hours of running and after 100 hours of running. This video will show you how to do the 50-hour service as well as how to clean the spark arrestor and change the oil on the Champion 2000 watt inverter generator.
The servicing of the Champion inverter generator goes quickly and easily. It's about the same as most other inverter generators. I do recommend having these tools and supplies on hand before you begin servicing your generator. Basically, I'll be showing you how to change the oil on your Champion 2000 watt inverter generator, cleaning the air filter, and cleaning the spark arrester. I've provided links to Amazon for some of the tools you'll need to service your Champion generator.
*Phillips head screwdriver
* Flathead screwdriver
* Carburetor Cleaner - amzn.to/38lwuiO
* Foam Air filter oil - amzn.to/3pSdvlK
* 10w-40 or 10w-30 New motor oil (I use Mobil 1 synthetic)
* Used motor oil container - amzn.to/2MAM3ul
* Rags - amzn.to/2LrvbFI
Overall, it takes me less than 30 minutes to service my 2000 watt Champion inverter generator. Proper maintenance will ensure your generator lasts a very long time. Neglect regular maintenance and you can expect your generator to give out, usually when you need it the most.
I think I have over 1000 hours on this Champion inverter generator. It has some oil blow-by, but other than that, it starts right up every time.
Changing the oil on your Champion 2000 watt inverter generator is a simple process. You simply take the cap off the fill tube and tip the generator to drain the oil. Make sure you have a good pan to catch the used oil in. Once the oil has been completely changed in your Champion generator, refill with clean engine oil. I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic oil, but you use whatever you like. It takes .5 liters.
To clean the air filter on a Champion inverter generator, I take it out and clean it with carburetor cleaner. I then let it air dry. Before replacing the air filter, I spray a light coating of air filter oil on it.
To clean the spark arrestor on a Champion inverter generator, you first have to take the back grill off. Once you have it off and can access the muffler, you're going to have to remove the set screw in the side of the muffler. Once that small set screw is removed, the spark arrestor will come out easily. I clean the spark arrestor with carburetor cleaner as well. The spark arrestor can really get clogged up with carbon, so make sure you clean it thoroughly.
And that is all there is to a 50-hour maintenance tune-up on a Champion 2000 watt inverter generator. A little preventive maintenance will go a long way with these generators.
In my next video on servicing a Champion inverter generator, I'll be covering the 100-hour service. This will include everything I did here in the 50-hour service plus I'll be replacing the spark plug, gapping the spark plug, adjusting the valves, and other maintenance items. It's an important part of keeping your inverter generator operating at peak performance.
