great video! Torx key should be T55 (instead of T27). T27 is for the disc bolts :)

An excellent video, the only thing different I would have put some brake grease in the sliders and some copper slip on the edge of the pads ( the metal part not the lining material) Many thanks for sharing.

Yeah! Thanks for that! Went out and purchased a Torx 27, got the car up, wheel off, tools out, new pads out ready, new discs out ready caliper off,.....the caliper mount Torx are T55....not T27!
@firstman9273
@firstman9273 5 лет назад
That should have been clear when you saw the T27 in the shop, no way would it be big enough. You can use your T27 for other jobs that come up. It might be the right size for the disc grub screws at 4:00

I would have used brake cleaner on the discs before assembly as they are most probhably coated to prevent rust.

1:40 you should open and keep an eye on your brake fluid reservoir level as you squeeze the piston inside. 2:18 you should use a bar not a ratchet to undo such high torque otherwise you can break your ratchet. 9:15 those discs have suddenly got very dirty, I hope you cleaned them.

What year is this particular car? My 2008 C4 Grand Picasso has sliding pins that are undone with a 7mm Allen key. Other than that's it looks to be pretty much the same. I'll need to replace my front discs at the next pad change so I'll be making a video when the time comes for that particular job.
@PassioneTutorial
@PassioneTutorial 6 лет назад
The car in the video is the 2004 - 2010 series. there may be small differences but the procedure is practically the same. are the pins good enough to be unscrewed?
@Parknest
@Parknest 5 лет назад
@@PassioneTutorial The pins came out no problem. The front discs and pads were an advisory on the recent MoT so I'll need to change them before long. It will most probably be my next upload.

Hi, I have a 2010 C4 Grand Picasso. 1.6THP. With ABS. The question is if I have to buy the brake disc with ABS sensor ring (only option 3 mentions this)? I have the following options to choose from: 1. BREMBO Brake Disc, Internally vented, with screws 2. BREMBO COATED DISC LINE Brake Disc, Internally Vented, Coated, with screws 3. BREMBO BEARING DISC LINE Brake Disc, Solid, with ABS sensor ring, with wheel bearing set 4. BREMBO Brake Disc, Perforated / Vented, Coated, High-carbon, with screws Thank you for your answer in advance.

perhaps just a spot of lock-nut and grease the bolts and mating faces and backs of pads or it won't come apart again without a struggle. but good clear how-to-do-it video, T55 not T27, easy mistake.

Sorry to say he did a sloppy job installed rotor without cleaning it with brake clean, new rotors have oil on them to protect them from rust AND MUST BE CLEANED THOROUGHLY FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING IT he left that oil on the rotor along with some very greasy fingerprints which will contaminate the pads when the brakes are applied for the first time, What I do is take the new rotor and put it on the hub inside out then secure with lugs then spray brake clean on the inside surface and wipe with clean paper towels to remove oil, remove lugs then spin rotor around the correct way with clean gloves on then secure lugs and spray with brake clean and wipe with clean paper towels then install pad frame with care not to get the rotor dirty, Then install pads, NEVER LET GREASY HANDS TOUCH THE NEW BRAKE PAD SURFACE OR YOU HAVE CONTAMINATED IT!!! He also did not clean the slides or change the tin slide covers even though he was given a new pair with the new pads and did not lubricate the pad ends where they fit into the frame, He also did not clean and lubricate the slide bolts which secure the caliper to the frame. Before collapsing the piston with the C Clamp he should have sprayed it with brake clean and wiped it to remove dust and contamination, instead he pushed in a dirty piston loaded with brake dust into the seal, NOT THE BEST THING TO DO!!! I saw several other problems but these are the worst!!!! For instance when he put the caliper back on you will notice it cut away before it showed him torquing the top caliper bolt, That is because he could not fit the torque wrench on it because the brake line was in the way, So he tightened it without a torque wrench!!!

Most rotors on citroens are supplied coated in paint. No need to clean them as theres no oil residue on them
@Quibus777
@Quibus777 4 года назад
TIMMEH19991 the combination of the video showing where everything is and this comment makes it solid information. Cleaning things is always good practice, specially at the brakes where a lot of brake dust, water, salt in winter and road goo will be. One cannot say Citroen discs come painted so no oil to remove, one does not know what discs are bought. To add to the first comment addressing most important things I would add, 1 wear gloves a box of 100 nitrate gloves is cheap and protects yourself from oils that will cross the skin and if needed one can change pairs to protect other parts from dirt and goo. 2 use anti seats like copper grease between disk and mounting plate. 3 use lock title on the bolts of which the workshop manual says not to reuse them (after a clean and application of lock tire the old bolts act like new ones, that is where the advice to use new bolts comes from in the Citroen technical manuals afaik. 4 if one can bleed of some brake fluid without introducing air (simple vacuum pomp vessel for fluid placed above bleed screw should accomplish this) then refill fluid as you go, you have also switched out the fluid closest to the braking action, this is the fluid that gets hot and thus deteriorating most, while you're at it and have access to it why not. 5 replace or at least clean and add new lubricant , the struts guiding the brake pads. Brakes could very well be one of the harshest environments for parts on a car and very important Oh and when having the wheels off, just clean (WD40) and then feed (silicone spray) all the rubber parts you can see to make it last longer, there are a bunch of covers for struts joints, cables and the arms of the suspension all seat in thick rubber, just make sure the wd40 and silicone does not come into things like brake pads, discs and the timing belt. Oh oh for the C4 it's also smart to take a peek and feel behind the cover of the wheel arches, there are outlets for rainwater that can and will be blocked after a while, very easy to clean just suck the stuff out with shop vac. It's just one screw and a bunch of poppers holding that big plastic cover in so real easy when total access is what you have when the wheels are removed.

@TIMMEH1991 do you put them on with mind power? otherwise there will be grease from your hands on them that will get on the pads and make them useless
@panz3r696
@panz3r696 3 года назад
could be cleaner yeah, i was thinking about the new pad clips and some copper grease there but hey, its still very informative for a beginner and covers all the main steps... better than any brake change video i have ever put online :)
