Everybody has a gun in Texas. If you don't then you are at a disadvantage just going about your business. So, suffice to say he likely had his firearm with him but unless he pulls it out and makes an aggressive move with it shooting him is borderline wrong. If in fact he was running away and they shot him in the back then this was a murder. The point in the timeline of events and manner with which he was ran over with a patrol vehicle adds a variable to the situation that can't be calculated until the cops get their stories all memorized and then they release the edited in their favor video.

You do know shooting someone in the back isn't against the law provided the individual has already fired on law enforcement officers. Once you use deadly force on a police officer they no longer have to wait for you fire again before shooting you - even if you're running away. Family wants to talk about this man's mental health problem, but what were they doing about it? Did they make sure he was seen regularly for it? Did they make sure he took his meds? If he lived with family, did they make sure he didn't have a weapon in the house? I have 3 half siblings, mental health issues run on their dad's side. 2 of their cousins have schizophrenia. One of those cousin's family does all that, and he is living his best life. Wife, kids, job he loves. The other cousin's family did none of that. He is in prison, in a wheelchair, because he killed 2 people he thought were aliens. He was shot by someone in the house during the murders. Don't make mental health as an excuse unless and until you as a family do your part to keep that person safe for themselves, yourselves, and the public. If all else fails, go to court and get them committed. Repeatedly if necessary. Don't blame others for your failures. Two cousins, two very different outcomes.
