@@sirmi9868 Chuck wasn’t “ OLD “. He and Malone are basically the same age 🤣 Barkley just took a different role when he went to Houston and his rebound numbers went up while his PPG averages decreased as a result.
Barkley was undersized, and he's well past his prime here, but he's still blocking shots, tearing down rebounds, banging down low, and dishing out hard fouls. What a beast!
LOL undersized next to Malone sure. Back then i bet he was avg for forward regarding height above avg wingspan and weight. Malone was past his prime too they were born same year and Malone got the better of him in 97 WCF, but the guy making this video is like the rest of us and huge Barkley fan judging by all the clips.
@Bruno Salvatore Guzzo yeah because 6’6” guards could bully centers back then. Not that he was a guard, but no way in hell could any 6’6” nba player bully a center back in the 80s and 90s. Charles Barkley was a beast to play his position with that size in that era.
@@AC-nx7qr Bro, everyone has the desire to get a chip. Reread my comment.. You clearly misunderstand me. I mean that players from the 90's had super heated rivalries that drove them. Unlike now where players just go anywhere they want and create super teams cuz there is no real rivalries or hatred anymore. They are all friends and no one cares like that. Of course they want to win but the way they go about it is completely different. Back in the 90's you couldnt just easily up and leave and go to any team you wanted and create teams with your friends. Todays NBA is a joke.. Its why NBA's ratings are so bad now
So many levels of basketball to be appreciated here. Refs and commentators know there's a game within a game- they know there's going to be friendly back and forth (because it's WCF). All in all, today's NBA makes me appreciate 90's NBA that much more. Glad to have watched it in person.
the fact they're all homies off-court and they still fight each other should be a lesson taught by the later generations. leave that all on the court. everyone takes it way too personal nowadays and hold grudges for each other when sh*t gets heated.
@@dashauncarney9651 Bill Laimbeer was one dirty son of a bitch when he was playing basketball. He was intentionally fouling opposing players and hurt them. Larry Bird had every right to be mad and hold grunge at him.
@@dysfunctional4912 So.It's still a game at the end of the day. It's not like Laimbeer held personal vendettas against guys that attacked him, something others from the past can't say.
I lived in Houston a few years ago, and the HATE that Houston has for the Utah Jazz is still absolutely palatable even 25 years later. You can hear it in the announcers voices as they talk about the Jazz. Most of the current Jazz roster were infants and toddlers during 1997. I find it hilarious.
people see him on tv now and forget- barkley was a beast. and loved both the pressure- and the contact. shame charles was coming to the end of his run here. his best seasons were spent probably in phoenix. basketball might never be this much fun again..
Nah, his best years were in Philly. In Phoenix, he was way smarter, of course. But at least physically, he was already on the back end of his career, even in Phoenix.
Yes agreed. Tail end of philly and his phoenix days were his peak. Those years, he took care of his body. When he joined the rockets, his health declined. Dude picked up some weight from eating all that churros wit those big ass women down in san antonio🤣😭💀
Charles telling the two time champs - who knocked him out the playoffs both times - to play with a sense of urgency. I always felt like if they had just kept Horry and Cassel they would have beaten this Jazz team and gone back to the Finals.
A Daaamn shame Chuck has no ring, he wasn’t the biggest or most athletic, but he took nobodies bullshit and put it back in their faces, i miss the 90s NBA, todays game is so soft its hilarious
back in the those bodybuilders nba bigs barely could dribble the ball and was way worse jumpshooters.Bunch of Kevon Looneys and Aytons one sided style in big positions, but no Durant,Lebron,Davis,Jokic,Nowitzky types big that can kills teams from everywhere not just in bruisers style
Chuck and Malone had immense respect for one another. They were both wary of the other one drawing fouls because they knew when it came down to it theyre the strongest of the strong.
Watching them talk about getting to the finals at the other’s expense is like watching two wrestlers talk about fighting for a world title opportunity at wrestlemania
Thats how it should be !! Im sick of all this hugging and kissing and handshakes now a days. U are here to cement your legacy, not hold a popularity contest
Love Bill Walton's comment "that's just cheek to cheek ballroom dancing." lol. One of the things I hate about the NBA is it's so obvious when the league wants a certain team to win and you can see it so clearly in the way the refs are calling the game. At least back then the announcers would call it out that something was a clear foul or flop. Soon after that it was obvious that the announcers would get the word to go along with it and would either not talk about something again or show the replay about 20 times to point something out. And if a player or coach tried to point this out they'd get fined.
Being a native Utahn and Jazz fan since I was conscious of basketball in the late 80's I relish the physicality and play of the NBA of yore. Today's league is so flaccid by comparison. It's really sad how lame it is now. Virtually NO posting up in the paint. Almost no real power forwards. I doubt if anyone in the NBA today dedicates as much time in the weight room as Malone did. Fast-break 3 pointers are so boring compared to drives and dunks of the greatest NBA era.
NBA should have a competition for 3rd place. Have the Lakers and Celtics do a free-throw shoot - kinda like the penalty kick thing in soccer match when the score is tied (I know - it's lame, whatever). Winner takes third, gets a plastic trophy with a ball that's just about to go through a hoop.
I loved Malone in that series. Houston ruined the Jazz play off runs many times before this series. I think it was before game 1 Malone was shown riding into the stadium on his motor cycle and just looked so bad ass. You could feel something in the air with that shot of him. Right away in game 1 the Mailman was playing so intense and in the faces of Barkley, Hakeem, and the other Houston bigs. Just going at them, not backing down, super physical. I said to my girlfriend "This is different, Karl's had enough being bullied by this team, they are winning this series." Such a great era, Stockton and Malone my fav players of all time, and was addicted to the Jazz from 88-02. Gosh I miss them.. sigh. NBA just means nothing to me these days.
Malone, para mi el mejor 4 q ha existido...Mala suerte en no haber conseguido ni un anillo y perder aquel famososo balón contra MJ en las finales contra Chicago....
