I was a husky kid. As an adult I didn't want to be fat anymore. I hired a coach and got in shape. Find your self discipline, stop being lazy, and get right. It's a great feeling to have confidence you look good and feel much better. Trust me lol.
I was not so husky, but definitely a big young man, but when I went into the Army, back in 1969, I lost all that and gained muscle because of all the working out we had to do. I always stayed fit and slim up until 2001, when I found out I needed a liver transplant because of Hep C, which I got thru a blood transfusion while serving. I went down to under 140, but after my transplant, in 2005, I now stay at a steady 150. Course, I am old as the hills now but can outwork, out hike any of my nine grandsons still, lol! Never give up, whether it is fighting to lose weight, gain weight, or fighing a deadly disease, Keep a Fighting Mentality!
And there's the difference, I've never heard of anyone needing a coach to become obese. The first thing these fat lazy slobs need to do to lose weight is to throw away their copy of the book, '1001 reasons/excuses why I'm fat.'
My Dad is 45, he started playing soccer at 4, track athlete at 7, was kickboxing at 10, a high school wrestler at 13 and eventually got into weightlifting mid teens. He's an inspiration. He has suffered some injuries during his life but he is still an amazing athlete and inspires me. He never puts people down and encourages them to better themselves. As he says "body positivity should be about making your body healthier and stronger". "Lying to someone who is unhealthy and overweight doesn't help them, it only hurts them".
that could be said about a lot of situations, including the trans epidemic we're dealing with right now. encouraging them is not helping them, but hurting them....
I am so terribly sick of the young in our society being preoccupied with themselves. It’s boring. They are boring. I actually saw the budget of a young woman that was struggling with money with a nonworking husband (choice, not disabled) and 4 children. She allowed herself $250 monthly for lashes, hair, nails. These kids find entertainment and beauty to be an essential budget item!
For anyone claiming that they can't lose weight, or tries to says that they have some medical condition that prevents them from losing weight, let me take them to a deserted island for 2 weeks, and let's see if they lose weight. It's a lie they tell themselves to justify not trying anymore. Losing weight is very simple. It may not be easy, but the process is very simple. Eat less, move more. That's it.
Also eat whole foods, no vegetables (seed) oils, minimum starch veges, minimum fruits, very minimum breads and pastas, more red meat and fish. Little or no sugar in it's many forms.
@@Oldways52 This is generally good advice, but it isn't necessary to lose weight. And, if you do lose weight and don't do these things, you will still be, generally speaking, in good health. The things you describe can make you even more healthy, but they are not required. I'd also offer there are multiple 'diets' which would contradict your advice who'd have a valid argument for their method. As a side note, I hate that the word 'diet' is used in two different contexts, one being some guideline of what you consume by which you lose weight as opposed to just a word describing what you eat. The two are not necessarily synonymous.
very true...i dont eat too much i stop if i feel even slightly full no matter how delicious the food is and even if i can still eat more, i simply stop at the right amount of food...this why i can eat everything and dont feel guilty about carbs and sugar
@@Oldways52 You missed john's point. You are over-complicating it. His point is eat fewer calories, burn off more calories. Eat less, move more. We are talking about losing weight here. You are talking about improving your health overall. People don't need the severe diet you propose to be healthy. But I'm sure it makes you feel superior.
I just posted this above: Simplest way to lose weight: Calorie deficit. If you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight. Calorie deficit combined with exercise is the fastest way to lose weight. If you want to retain your muscle that you have worked hard for: Get 60% of your calories from protein, 25% from carbs, 15% from good fats....in a calorie deficit. You can try zero carbs, but you'll have almost no energy and will have problems building new muscle. Your muscles need the glycogen and sugars from carbs to repair broken down muscle tissue from workouts
Please look into GOLO. It’s basically a healthy eating plan. Fresh food get rid of processed stuff. I lost 50 lbs on it the end of last year, and have kept it off for 11 mo. Once you loose, you just continue to eat-and you get plenty to eat!!! I’ve gotten rid of one of my diabetic meds, looking at another and my cholesterol has my cardiologist doing the happy dance now!!
Remove carbs, increase fat and protein intake, and workout = anybody can lose weight. It's not difficult. It just takes a shift in mindset and some effort.
It IS difficult for someone like me who has a prolapsed disc in their back. Don't assume that EVERYONE can exercise because for many people it is simply not possible.
The trouble is you need to be at a calorie deficit. Fats are good for you(healthy fats) but they have 9 calories per gram compared to 4 calories per gram for both protein and carbs. So you’re meals will be smaller and less filling, making it much harder to stay with the weight loss meal plan. Stay away from liquid carbs and food with mass added sugar. But fruits, vegetables and whole grains are mostly all carbohydrates. They are healthy and super filling.
I’m an extremely fit, slim and athletic runner. I suffered a traumatic brain injury back in March and was in hospital more or less flat on my back for six weeks. I was very well fed in the hospital trauma unit, yet came out of hospital 18 pounds lighter without moving a muscle because I was incapable. I looked like I had been half starved, but I never felt better. I have managed to put 14 pounds back on, so all good.
@@rosiemason-rk4cmthat makes things much harder unfortunately. Are you completely immobile(bedridden or wheelchair)? With guidance from a physical therapist you can hopefully find some easy exercises you can do daily to burn calories. Then the rest of the calories you would sadly need to be cut from your food. Even if say 1800 calories a day is as low as you are willing to eat, your maintenance body weight at that level of calorie input/output should be well below obesity. You may not be athlete level lean, but you shouldn’t be massively overweight either. Maybe healthy bulky:) Which is just fine for a lot of people to live long healthy lives. Even if it’s a slow process that takes years it’s still worth it :)
Hey I am obese and struggle with it every day. I curb my portions and cook healthy and stay away from fried foods and carbs is as slow process but it is going down.
Hes 100% right. I will say, my heart was hurting for the black heavy man waiting for his turn. Must be so uncomfortable when u feel like everyone is looking at u and judging u while hes speaking.
I have friends who are endurance cycling athletes. They recently went to Norway for a race and one of the locals asked them "where are you from?" They responded "America". The Norwegian looked at them a bit confused and said "We thought all Americans were overweight". We have lost our way as a country when obesity is celebrated.
In the last year I have lost 105 pounds and I have another 20 pounds to go. Was it easy, NO. It has been very hard but it has been worth it and I will keep it off. I am 74 and I probably have another 20 years to live and I am still very healthy and I wish I had done this many years ago. Why I didn't do this when I was younger I don't know, I don't know. All I can say is that I always had an excuse. Now when I see obese people around me, I feel very sorry for them and know that they need help and know that they just need to seek help. People like Lizzo give our young people such a bad example of how to live life today. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Lizzo! People shout.. ' keep them on!!'.. im an old fat bloke 66 , but I wasn't always fat, I was very fit and I loved my life, I enjoyed my kids and was fit enough to have a great time!. Young and very fat is a curse!
I graduated high school weighing 250lbs at about 40% body fat. I slowly got into running, cycling, sports and general exercise at the gym. I’m now about 200lbs and 18% body fat. There are some people out there whose genetics present a greater challenge than others for getting to and maintaining a healthy weight, but they are very few. The majority of people that are obese are so because they do not live a healthy lifestyle, whether that is their choice to not live healthily or not. The bottom line though is that we as a society are doing a disservice to the obese population by supporting them in their lifestyle and not helping them to make positive change in their life. I wish those around me had really pressed that issue with me and my family. Instead, I was guilt-tripped into eating everything on my plate and then rewarded with huge heaping bowls of ice cream every day, after having spent all of my free time sitting on the couch watching TV and playing video games. My brother (who was also obese when he graduated) and I both were able to turn our lives around, but the rest of our family are obese and are currently dealing with major health issues as a result. They have positive body image by way of social support, but they have negative health quality.
I was 200-220 when I was in the navy. I suddenly gained (about four months) about 40 lbs. My digestive system was wrecked from nerve agent exposure in the Gulf.
When I was a teenager, back in the sixties, fast food was starting up and women were already getting chunky. I always wanted a beautiful, hour glass shaped Lady that was slim and fit. I finally found her while I was in Germany, in February 1970! Still have that beauty today, 53 years later. Course, were are both grey and in our mid-70's now, but she is still the most beautiful woman I have ever known! God is Good! All the Time!
i am by no means in good physical shape, but you don't see me trying to change the world about it. There is a reason the world is the way it is. When you grow up and mature, you understand.
When i was overweight, every insult did dig in deep and hard, but ultimately pushed me to change which i am at this time very thankful for.GET TOUGH 💪or the hits might conqure you,and they are not meant to.
Yeah, I've noticed the Turning Point UK videos always have titles like, "So-and-so DEMOLISHES smug horrible evil Leftist" and the video is like 2 people calmly talking for a couple minutes. 😂😂😂😂
Well, good for that kid for being respectful and courteous. Much easier to listen to his opinion when he is that way as opposed to so many who throw a tantrum at any disagreement.
I have someone that is close to me who is obese. The most frustrating thing for me is she does not see why. She will regularly say..."I don't get it, all I had to eat today was......and then go on for 5 minutes listing everything, but she has convinced herself that it is normal. She has 6-8 feed times per day and I am not counting eating an apple as a feed time. Apple with caramel dipping sauce would count but she would say "I ate and apple".
Every fat person wants to blame their obesity on a disease, when it's only because of what they put into their mouths. They also say they can't exercise because of some affliction, but there are many exercises that can be done without creating pain or problems.
Not entirely true. When I first gave up smoking 17 years ago I went from 12.5 stone to 14 stone. Its very difficult to lose weight after smoking but not impossible.
Last year I was weighing 216lbs. I'm 5'11". I stopped eating fast food, junk food and soft sugary drinks. I quit hard liquor 2 years ago. Those choices alone, trimmed me down to 165lbs. I didn't go gym, I didn't do crazy diets. I still eat normal stuff, just none of the crap foods I mentioned above. I'm also 40 years old. The idea that people are overweight by nature is absurd. I've had chubby friends ask me what I did, and when I explain it, I can see the realisation in their eyes that they're fat cos of their poor choices in diet. There's no excuses in my case.

Putting down the Latte and Cappuccino is a start. I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks just giving up diet soda. Cut back on sodium, water retention. Just because you open your mouth doesn't mean you have to feed it. I know it sounds harsh but truthful.
Great topic. Don't even get me started on today's youth and their complete lack of any semblance of work ethic. When I was in junior high, I was a fat kid and ate just about everything and I walked to school. I only lived three blocks away. In gym class, I started noticing the super athletes from our school and how chiseled, athletic, and muscular they were. I mean, they were into everything from track, wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, weightlifting, and anything physical they came across. I just walked up to one of them who I had classes with and asked him how he got in shape. I had no idea how to even lift a weight. When school let out at the beginning of the summer, I asked my mom to buy me a pair of grey sweatpants and a grey hoodie. I would cut & wrap heavy, black trash bags and wrap them around my torso with duct tape, put on a t-shirt, then the sweats, and run up to my school to run laps around the track. This was right after 7th grade and in the summertime. Yes, I was running with full sweat gear on around 7:00 p.m. 4-5 times a week in 100 degree-plus heat. I didn't care and didn't notice it. I was determined to lose fat. When the next school year started, I had shed all of my fat and looked like a completely different person. I was never fat again, and I am now in my 50's. I had no help and did it all by myself. I was determined to get in shape, and that's really all a person needs. They just need the WILL to do it, and it starts with how they eat. It's pretty simple; burn more calories than you eat. If you don't eat junk food and you exercise, the weight will simply melt away. Don't believe me? Eat a bowl of healthy, low-fat cereal in the morning (or a shake/meal replacement), lean meat & veggies for lunch, and broiled or roasted chicken w/ veggies and rice for dinner before 8:00 p.m. and exercise three times a week and check your weight after 30 days. If you're disciplined and can only eat between noon and 8:00 p.m., then you are on your way to significant weight loss (even better if you only eat twice a day). This is intermittent fasting. Toss the sodas and sugary drinks (sodas will kill you). Drink water and just watch what you drink. I drink tea with a little sugar, and sometimes have a fruit punch. Since I'm lifting weights and active, the fat & weight just stay off because I'm constantly burning it, even while I'm sleeping.
When I, as a slim European, am in the USA and go out to eat there, I almost feel sick when I see the plate in front of me. The portions are twice as big as in Berlin, and the amount of fat is unbelievable. How does the Cheesecake Factory manage to hide up to 1500 calories in a piece of cheesecake? The stuff tastes great, but I refuse to eat almost the entire daily calorie requirement in one piece of cake. The same goes for salads there. They taste good, but have way too much fat. And that's the core of the problem. You have to be able to resist. I'm a lightweight myself, and many people ask me how you can lose weight if you like to eat. My answer to that is, stop focusing on food all day long, don't eat anything in between even if you are bored and get to know your calories. Then you will know when to stop.
I hate how obesity issues have elbowed their way into the "body positivity movement". It's about more than them. One example is giving amputees confidence. I'm sure you could come up with other examples yourself.
When I was heavy and part of the body positivity movement I would make every excuse under the sun. I would get so nasty with people who loved me enough to tell me the truth. Oh and i was able to lose 100lbs
Am was extremly fat and cut off some weight where am comfortable not that fat but not that thin... I discover being fat and living fat... Big oartnof it is mentality towards eating habits.... Its hard to control the craving... The taste? You would actually say they all taste the same...food is just the balance of tempreture, saltiness, sweetness, over the kind of texture of food...that all...at the end they just fill our tummies...
They can stop eating fast food and stop drinking Starbucks fattening coffees for starters. They can go to their doctors and get a physical once a year to help keep them on track as well.
Carbs? 1st is SUGAR! Cut down sugar to zero or 90% out (once in a while a home made desert is fine). 2nd is processed foods. Then you can start with carbs, oils, etc.
No one I know who has lost weight got fat shamed into losing weight. Strongly disagree with bullying people over their weight. In fact, fat shaming is the thing that I’ve noticed kills motivation more than body positivity.
To those that work out, you will get heavier as you put on muscle, and the fat isn't going to disappear overnight or after 3 sessions, please continue you're not failing, it's just a process your body has to change and get used to the new schedule as it makes changes for your new active lifestyle and diet, it will be miserable at first but keep going.
If the kids now would put the phone away get off the computer or gaming console and go outside to play it would help. I remember no internet no computers and no damb cell phones and as kids we had a great time. And 50 years ago you didn’t have a 50% obese rate amongst kids.
Breason At least 15 yrs. Ago the AMA announced or (CDC) that obesity became one of the major causes of cancer even above smokers... But don't smoke either.. ❤❤❤❤❤
Getting fat isn't always just cause of eating wrong foods. I'm on a medication that I put on 8 stone in 3 months. All my life before that, I had a lovely figure. Yes, it depresses me, but there is nothing I can do about it, I fast hike at least 5 miles a day, I eat healthy, and yet it won't. Budge.
Eat less, and do more physical activities. That simple. We sit around and stare at phones and stuff our faces. That is the problem. Stop making excuses, and stop trying to normalize it. You are not a victim. It's a choice. The sooner we stop lying to protect feelings, the sooner the problem gets fixed.
I went from 25% fat to 5% body fat in 10 days whilst eating pizza and chips by cycling 100 miles for 10 days during an endurance race. And that after years of struggling in the gym to shift the fat. I was burning 7000 calories a day even with the pizza and chips. It was during that I had a light bulb moment and realised that it is all calories in and calories out and what you actually eat makes little difference in the overall picture.
Sorry Charlie, up until this video I liked you. I've gained weight after being given heart medication that slows your metabolism down. It's a known side effect!
I agree with much of what Charlie says. He has a bad habit of lumping people into a single group and talking globally. He has a lot of knowledge in history, religion, etc but he does not have education in the medical field, biochemistry and does not consider the mental aspects of weight gain. Does not consider metabolism, physical makeup, heredity and the like. To state, globally, meaning all inclusive, that being heavy is a choice, is well, I will call it what it is - irresponsible. For some, it is a choice for others it is not.
You didn't listen to him closely enough...he acknowledged differing body types, metabolisms, etc., and said it isn't easy (the psychological aspect), but in almost every single case of obesity across the globe, it IS simply a matter of making better choices (yes, it's hard!)...there is no 'medical condition' that prevents overweight/obese folks from losing weight. I watched a documentary about an obese teenager who wanted to get gastric bypass surgery...in order for the surgeon to agree to perform the procedure, he required the teen to lose a certain amount of weight so that the procedure itself wouldn't not be a danger to him. Guess what, he lost the weight!...and then still proceeded to get the surgery!
